1:43 Nope, the Royal family doesn't actually live there anymore. They moved to Drottningholm Castle in 1981. It's about 10 km west of Stockholm city. It's well worth a visit, in the summer, one can take a ferry there, which is the nicest way to get there, or go by subway and bus, which is a bit cheaper. There is a really beautiful park, and a very nice location by the water. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle theatre, built in the 1760s, is still in use, and it's stunning. The Royal castle is just the work place for the Royal family nowadays. The Crown Princess and her family live in another castle, Haga slott, which is about 5 km north of Stockholm city. That's where the King grew up.
Yes. Everybody knows they don't actually live there. but it's the official address ot Swedish Crown, and the Headquarters of the Swedish royals. Drottningholm is meant to be a secret residence. ;)
Just checking out this video…. Let me know if you’re coming to Stockholm again…. I’m living in Stockholm and it would be fun to grab some fika and do a vlog together 😊
Just to clarify: the Stockholm archipelago has 30000 islands. Stockholm city is mostly built on islands but not all 30000 of them😁 If you are ever in Stockholm in the summer I can recommend taking a boat with Vaxholmsbolaget - ideally one of the old steam boats - for an archipelago tour. I'm biased but in my opinion the outer archipelago is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
@@ClairesFootsteps Been to London countless times, Scotland from coast to coast and really liked Stirling, recently I've tried to get up on Mount Snowdon. I'm making my 3rd attempt in May-June, just gotta try to be in central Wales on a day when it doesn't rain 30mm+ 😅
You really should spend more time in Stockholm. In Djurgården alone can take a day to cover. Along Abba museum there are four other museums to cover swedish Culture and history with old buildings, and a warship from 1600's... And Zoo and amusement park...
The Vasa (ship) museum is an amazing place. It is the only remaining ship from that era in the world. You should take your time and go through alll the smaller side exhibiotions, where they talk about the life on board and many, many other interesting facts about the ship and life in the 17th century
Who is this Avicci guy, I'm swedish I don't know who this dude is. I've heard of him, but what are his importance? Did he do anything important like the great ones? Beatles, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Bruce Springsteen...or just a silly modern pop artist?
He was a great DJ of the time, I liked his music a lot, and very sad that he passed so young. Depends on your tastes if you like him or not but I wouldn't call him (or anyone tbf) silly just because they're contemporary 🙂
He was a completely ordinary DJ that somehow got to be famous. If you look up the word "overrated" in a dictionary, you get his picture and life story in a single sentence.
By "Gustav III opposed this" (proto-democracy) he launched a false flag attack on Helsinki to start a war with Russia and used that as an excuse for a military coup.
1:42 Ive been there at Lions Hill guarded the Royal Castle 30 years ago.
