Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. "You're not going to remember those expensive shoes you bought ten years ago, but you will remember every single morning when you look at your bank account that extra 0 in there. I promise, that's going to be way more fun to look at everyday", we most be successful in life I say this with strong faith 🙏🙏🙏

They got a REALLY real good deal but this is not at all typical in Puerto Rico. Furthermore, what is not being said is that the average salary in Puerto Rico is much lower than that of the mainland United States. Wouldn't surprise me if they were only bringing in $50k combined.
Also for those thinking it is a good idea to start house hunting in PR, the average rent in San Juan is almost $1700 for much less space. At $1000 per month, they are probably getting a hefty subsidized discount by a family member or good friend who is renting the space out to them.
Other things to consider when you compare this to bigger mainland U.S. cities that have comparable rent:
*Your salary in Chicago/DC is going to be 3x more than what I can make in San Juan. So unless I have a remote job, I won't be able to afford the "cheaper" apartment in San Juan because my local salary won't keep up
*It's pretty hard to survive in Puerto Rico without a car. Cars have their own maintenance expenses. Also have you thought about the cost of gas being imported into the Island under the constraints of the Jones Act? Pretty expensive. One can live in a place like DC/Chicago and not even get a drivers license because the public transportation infrastructure
*Speaking of infrastructure, have you ever been to Puerto Rico during hurricane season? Nothing like spending 3 days in the dark because the privatized electrical grid has caught on fire for the 4th time in 2 months
*Have you seen Puerto Rico's local and federal tax requirements? Even if you have a remote job with a good salary, have fun paying those taxes every paycheck
*Por fin....hablas espanol? Si contestó "no" entonces buena suerte con encontrando un trabajo en Puerto Rico a pagar tu renta
There is alot more to this than saying $1000-1700 rent in Puerto Rico is cheaper than a place like New York or Chicago. I like Puerto Rico and visit often but lets not pretend this issue simply comes down to cost of apartments. Unless you are a crypto millionaire that can go hide out in Dorado, simply moving to Puerto Rico to pay lower rent isn't as easy as it sounds

It's moronic to rent forever, you never build equity and you risk being evicted when you can no longer afford the rent. These are the same people who cry about being evicted and not being able to afford rent when rent increases. If you buy a town house or Condominium you can at least keep your monthly payments the same for the next 30 years if you have a fixed interest rate with the option to refinance to get a lower interest rate. You also build equity in your property due to inflation and housing demand, the value of your property increases over time which you can then use for your retirement if you move some where cheaper.
