    Here in Red Deer Alberta we have a very cold winter and our quilters from our guild often use a fabric called "fireside "on the back of our quilts. It is much loved by our quilters and is warm , soft many colours and available at most of our quilt stores.

    This is exactly what i was needing... during the shut down last year i was able to finish all my current projects and also finish all my UFOs. So now cuz i dont want to do it again im trying to only do 1 project at a time. Well great in theory but there are so many fun quilt alongs and BOM so i want to do a planner to stay organized. I bought one but wasnt sure how to use it, this video just happened to pop up on my youtube feed and couldnt believe what perfect timing... thank you for all your knowledge and inspiration to keep us organized and sane. 😘

    I'm working on my first quilt ever. It will be a rag quilt using a fat quarter bundle I bought a few years ago and never knew what to make. It's called 'Field Guide' by Janet Clare. I am hoping to machine embroidery about 5 blocks to incorporate into my quilt with simple nature themes. Really excited - just cut my first 64 block! Believe it of not my biggest fear in quilt making is cutting fabric with a rotary cutter 😱. Love your podcast , it is so inspiring. If I am successful with this project, my next one is Snow Days by Crabapple Tree. And that is a biggee.

    My top project for January’s, I am using up scraps and making the Traffic Jam blocks for a large queen size quilt, for our RV. I don’t ever use the quilt/ spread that comes with it, so that it is nice and new when we trade up or sell.

    Any opinion about the wooden iron - like on the end of Alex Andersons 4 in one tool? (I haven't made the habit of using them. I prefer to cut a lot, sew a lot, press a lot, pin a lot, sew a lot, repeat. Or being ready for the next step - either having sewn pieces at the iron or pinned pieces at the sewing machine.)

    • @PatSloan
      @PatSloan  3 года назад

      do you mean tools (there are many) to get a 'finger press'.. they are ok, I prefer the iron

    I look forward to Monday nights! I work one day a week at an antique shop. Last week was a slow day so I spent it cutting squares for the traffic jam. For January I am finishing a quilt for a friend who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma. Chemo will be part of his therapy so I want to gift it to him before then

    I have used the Anti-Pill Fleece as backing with no batting. The quilts are still in great shape. I have not used fleece as a batting. I would worry that it would bunch up too much... I’ve had that issue using fleece as backing and not pinning it well.

      I love traffic jam, but I don't have scraps in the Blues. So I will probably have to buy some fat quarters or something. I'll visit some second hand stores and see if there are some blue fabric there.

    I like that seam roller. I think it's kinder to the fabric than pulling on it while finger pressing the seam.

    I've used fleece instead of batting in a smaller charity quilt. We receive a lot of donated fabric and fleece for Project Linus so in an attempt to try to use it up, I quilted on the longarm machine. It quilted fine and the binding was put on all by machine. It is heavier than if I would have used batting which is fine. I've washed it in preparation for donating it and it looks fine at this point. I'd say, don't be afraid to try using it instead of batting.

    I've used non-pilling fleece and it still pilled. I would stay away from all fleece. Just my 2 cents!!!

      I had no problems with it. But it doesnt shrik, so you miss getting the texture from that. Ive used it as batting and backing. Its not my thing. My sister loves it as backing.

  • @DawnAtCusterCottage

    Fleece: I have used it for pot holders instead of batting. It works fine. Also on quilts. I would think it work fine if you tie a quilt.
