Really delighted that my practical step-by-step video for B&Q has now had over 1 million views! Hopefully there are now many, many beautiful new lawns gracing gardens around the country. Now's the perfect time for some spring lawn care, so pop into your local B&Q store to find out what you should be doing to keep it in top condition.
This video has certainly stood the test of time 😄🌱
Very helpful video. I am now confident of doing DIY for the garden as I have been quoted for over a £1000 for the job. Thank you.
Brilliant video! Given me the confidence to give it a go
it’s an excellent video thank you
We used your video in Spring this year and our lawn has turned out brilliantly! We're so happy with it - thank you!
What a helpful video and wish I’d watched this first. Tried two others and stopped after a few minutes, then watched this right through. Short, to the point, we’ll presented and demonstrated. Everything you need to know.
Glad we could help 😊🧡
Only one critical thing to remember when laying turf, "green side up"!!!!!
My problem when I done it
Lol
So that’s where I’ve been going wrong...
Not if you live in Australia
😂
Very well made video, thanks very much. Clear, concise, and you nicely explain why you do certain things. Well done.
2020 in quarantine here in UK ...its time to sort out the garden 😉
Did you end up doing it and if so how did it/is it going?
not many people. are good teachers, but you explain everything really well thank u
Good video. If the ends of the rolls of turf are not square, overlap one roll end onto another by about 2 inches. Then cut through both mats of turf with a long knife. Throw away the trimmed ends and you should have two straight edges to join together.
Free educational content always has my vote, well done!
DIY is the way forward 💪🧡
and i might add that this is a really good guide if you are planning to go ahead yourself.
🥰
It will be my 1st time laying turf this summer hope all goes well.
After watching this video, you'll be a pro 😎 Keep us posted on how you get on 🌱
Thank you so much, Adam! Amazing video and your turf looks really good😜
You're welcome 😁
Oo, finished my retaining wall weeks ago, gonna use this helpful info, thanks my dude :)
Great step by step instructions and very well described. Thank you.
We're so glad you found our video helpful! 😊
I liked your video as it confirmed most of my ideas on how I will proceed. One thing I would like to mention is that you did "brick" your sods but you didn't actually make mention that this is what should be done. By "bricking" I mean overlapping the sods as though you were laying bricks in a wall. Overall well done though....hope my DIY turf project comes out as good as yours :)
I thought the exact same thing, the reason i watched the video was to find out that information.
He did. He used the word 'stagger' to explain that part of the process. 'To have the turf staggered'.
All you need is to defeat the zombies and beat the level, you'll get more lawn space and you can use your sunshine to plant your plants.
This is awesome video. Very well explained from start to finish.
Excellent video thanks 😀
Thank you for your comment! We're glad you liked it 😁
Seems doable. Thanks 👌🏽
Very helpful video with no fancy wording. Much appreciated! :-)
Thank you for the video. I'm planning to have lawn in my garden, so this was helpful. Just wanted to know the brand of sprinkler you are using in this video.
Hi, it's a Hozelock Plus Sprinkler. Please see here: bit.ly/3w2ywgv 😁
Great video - super helpful, thanks guys
Great video & advice!
Thanks! 😁👍
thank you, a great video and hopefully will save me thousands instead of paying a landscaper!
So glad you found this helpful!
what was the gravel for?
Great work. Thank you.
Brilliant and very informative 👍🏽👍🏽
Good job
🧡
How long would you wait before you sew grass seeds if you were not laying turf?
The preparation is the same for sewing grass seeds and laying turf. If you can, try and leave the area for several weeks so the rain gets on it and the ground settles 😊
It was very helpful, can we sow the seeds in February, in uk? thanks
Gotta love b&q
What preparation do we need for laying turf in a new build houses lawn? It is full of stones and the soil is pale.
excellent, detailed, clear and to the point. thanks
Very helpful. thanks a lot.
Very useful information friend thumbs up for video UK support
what are the names of all tools that you use?
Hi there, please see 0:05 for a list of all items and tools used.
I have stinging nettle plant growing. It is very difficult to pull roots out. Can I just throw my real grass turf rolls over it. Please advice.
We would not recommend doing this, as there may be implications in the future. We'd recommend popping by your local store and our expert staff will be on hand to advise on the best method to remove the nettle plant 🌱 We hope this helps 😊
How long does it need to be watered for everyday? I hear some people say 10min and others 5min. It's for 20m2.
How long do you leave the sprinkler in one area before moving to the next? Thanks.
Hi there, you'll need to ensure the water is soaked all the way through to the soil below before moving the sprinkler. Remember not to walk on your new turf until it's well rooted, which can take at least 2-3 weeks 😊
Good and practical advice.
Thank you
Thank you sir. I am also an Agriculturist.
Arghya Paul me too bro
This guy seems legit
🧡
If you were going to do this with seeds rather than turf is there a preferred method for spreading evenly?
Hi, Stu! We'd recommend checking out this article from our website, which should tell you all you need to know: bit.ly/2OsiyMl. Hope this helps!
Thank you very much
How often should we water the turf for the next few weeks? 🥺
Hello! Depending on rainfall we would recommend watering as soon as possible after laying the turf. Water daily for the first two weeks, then reduce watering to 2-4 times per week after that. Making sure to water it enough that it soaks into the soil below. Hope this helps! 😊
Hi,
Can you lay the new turf the same day as prepping the soil and applying new top soil?
I've seen a few different answers, and im not sure which is correct?
Ideally you should wait between 1-3 weeks between preparation and laying the turf to allow the topsoil to settle. Watering the topsoil is also recommended before laying. Ensure that once turf is delivered, you lay it within 24 hours as waiting longer is detrimental to the turf quality. Hope this helps! 🌱
@@bandq thank you!
Wow, so this is Minecraft? Jokes aside, my photographic mind has committed this to my neuro-archives. Many thanks.
😂 Glad we could help! 😊
My backyard is very dusty. Any way I can fix it and grow grass
Can you lay a new lawn roll on top of the old one or does it need to be removed first?
Hi, it's not something we would recommend, as it will prevent the new turf from rooting properly. Once a new roll of turf has been put down, you need to water the turf thoroughly, making sure the water soaks right the way through to the soil below because it's got to be moist enough for new roots to grow down. Hope this helps 😊
for a larger area is it ok to flatten the soil using a water filled roller?
Hi there, that will be ok 😊
@@bandq thanks for the quick reply!
You're welcome!
There’s a lot of clay in my garden, what advice could you give me? Thanks
substitute compost and manure for sand. fork the sand into the entire area to a spades depth.
What was the brand of this water distribution plastic?
Hi, there! It's a Hozelock Plus Sprinkler. Please see here: bit.ly/3w2ywgv 😊
Top soil 🤔
find it quite crazy how you can go out and buy rolled up lawn lol
🤣🤣
nice
But by leaving it for several weeks will allow time for weeds vto grow?
As long as the ground is weed free before laying the lawn there should be minimal/no weeds. We hope this helps 😊
Surely you water the area first? dont you
OK, thanks....I didn't water it first as happens, thought the whole place would turn into a mud bath, thanks for the reply
