I read a lot of negative comments on here.
Art has no rules or boundaries. Art is whatever the fuck you wanna make it.

The most inexcusable injustice to basquiat is that no one has ever managed to grasp the metaphysical investigation he was involved in. I read one article long time ago where a German post graduate was attempting to illustrate basquiat's fascination with metaphysics but was swatted away by the supervisor for choosing wrong artist... I still haven't understood what was meant by "wrong artist ". Because no one has come close to bridging contemporary art with metaphysics than Basquiat

That's how you cook stories for your sales pitch. Found some resemblance with the paintings of old masters. Find references from his childhood, pick unrecognizable figures from the painting and find religious significance. Establish correlation with findings, books, scientific studies. That too in a single picture...how can an artist juxtapose various disciplines from science, to religion to philosophy all it self contradictory to each other.

So amusing to watch fools break down the significance of art. They haven't a clue of what Basquiat was referencing in his art. All a guessing game and most likely 99% wrong on all levels

this is a commercial, fine - but it is a poor sales pitch. Many of those "explanations" are far fetched even for an artist that would be crazy about the meaning of his paintings. Basquiat was a tagger, a punk, he didnt sign his paintings, he didnt care - i am a bit confused why you want to depict him the way you did in the video. His art does need nothing of that sort.
Edit: the work sold for ca. 31 mio usd, may 2018.

people dont have trouble with antiquity say a greek statue- although the value of truly amazing objects has gone down. its taste cultured by a Mad world. this work seems unhinged enough. I understand it can be hard to understand why they would need to add validation or something like proof to art which is not factual.

Yeah don’t you love hating on artworks with good symbolism, actual meaning, and that stand against racism? I would much rather look at artworks with no meaning that stand for nothing, aren’t creative at all and are just a picture drawn from nature, no new creation, just an image of the real world out on canvas, and why would I respect an artist who fought against racism? DUDE. BASQUIAT IS A GOOD ARTIST OKAY. IF YOU STUDIED ART YOU WOULD KNOW

Ricky McFly it has very little do do with race and his style is shared with millions of toddlers, it's because it's a monument to how much of a price fixing scheme the art market it, it's a very ugly piggy bank for rich people
