Gotta say this is the best video I’ve seen. I watched this and thought yep got it, then watched something else and lost it all lol. Thank you for helping
Good template for sure. Key point for new players watching this: this template changes based on what you're playing and what your group is like, but you can still work around this as the base version and work onwards from there.
this is reeeeally similar to my brewing template. I love the clear and essential explaination you gave to people about the numbers you suggested. Thank you, i’m sure you helped a lot of people! 🙏🏼
First time watching and I wanna say this video was put together very well and it helped me a lot on how to build my own deck. Thank you so much and keep up the awesome work
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Make sure you play with the decks and get a feel for how they play and what's needed. Each deck is unique and has a wide variety of moving pieces!
@ubernerrd haha I get that... I'll have a video at the end of the year about my wins and losses and it's not good so far 😅 I've only recently been updating my decks to this format as well
I definitely need to have more targeted removal in my decks! I would usually include counter spells in the protection category since that’s how I tend to use them, but I understand your placement of them too.
I have big problems with Card Draw in most of my decks... I'm not such a big nerd in MTG so I don't know all the cards out there and so I have problems to find nice Card draw in specific colors... also I think you have to split the Card Draw Explanation in I think two part sections!? stable and one timer Card Draw if you know what I mean... how much of what do I need in a minimum? thanks a lot for you videos, helped me to think over a view decks.
Thank you for watching! Card draw is tricky, and I know exactly what you mean. I'll try and cook up a video for that topic because it's a good subject to cover. But briefly I'd say one-time card draw is always good, triggered card draw (like Beast Whisperer) is better USUALLY, and combat damage (which is technically triggered , Thopter Spy Network) is tertiary. If you can't trigger things all the time it's hard to see the payoff, even though it's technically better. But one offs can be used whenever and they always come in handy. The downside is of course only being able to use them once. Depends on the deck, but shoot for 5 or 6 of each type (one off and triggered) for now. Sorry it's hard to explain everything here...
Great question. I should have gone into that more. It's a combination of both. If you have too many of one or the other, your gameplan will slow down. Try and put 5-6 of both kinds in the deck to start with.
I think its worth mentioning that when building you want to pay attention to your average cmc and up your ramp/ mana rocks based on your average, so if I run dragons, or other big stompies, I will likely put 20-30 "ramp" cards in this can be dragons that boost mana, or honest ramp cards, mana rocks, etc. I think its just something to mention.
@@ManfredPlusMagic Also, maybe mention green often don't need much artifact ramp do to green being the best color to ramp in should properly also have been something you just mentioned :)
for commanders that can help with one of the categories, (mass remover, targetted removal, card draw, etc.) do you need the amount you said in the video or can you go a bit lower
very nice, i leaned building in 60 card decks, the 20/20/20 build, 20 lands, 20 creatures, 20 other, (instance, sorcery, artifacts, enchantments) .. and if i was going to build for commander, it would be 33/33/33 + commander, now this is just base, play it and see how it feels, what works, what dont, what does it need, etc etc etc. IMO decks are never "done or finished" cause you never know, with sets whats going to come out, and yo have that thought of "oh that would be good in my .. blah blah blah deck"
I always think, they can pause the video. But I just rewatched this for myself and things are up for a pretty short period of time. I'll lengthen these in the future!
Loved the video! But I have some questions (of course Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted) You mentioned Thassa as a wincon while mentioning mill. Would you regard Thassa as a way to close a game by deleting your deck and dropping thassa *without consult* a "casual" albeit high power wincon? Where would you classify counterspells? Protection, nuance flex or protection? 3 slots for win cons. Is that 3 seperate 1 card finishers? Or a single 3 card combo? Your numbers VERY closely ressemble what Ive ended with in my sig. Deck and I gotta say, its one of the smoothest running decks Ive ever built. Also withcard draw, whats your opinion on engines vs spells ( glissa sunslayer vs nights whisper) and is there a ratio you like in regards to that
What a great, thought-out response! Thank you for taking the time to be here! Thassa's Oracle is really controversial... Laboratory Maniac less so. Thassa's Oracle is one you'd have to talk to your play group about because of how controversial it is. I personally think that if it's in your deck and you're not actively searching for it, it's far more casual. Counterspells could be classified as Enablers because they help your deck keep running. But it also depends on the counterspell. Access Denied for example could almost be a Flex because it fills the Enabler/Counterspell slot while also being a somewhat Bread and Butter spell that makes thopter tokens to be used later. Win cons are weird because every deck wants to do something different. If you're doing a combo deck, your bread and butter slots go toward finding and executing that combo in those 3 or more slots. CEDH decks run like 20% slots for winning, instead of 3%. But for more casual decks, I'd say that 3 cards that are one-offs that help you win are more common. I'd say my list isn't anything new, but I think I've got a slightly different spin on it. It's really cool that it matches so well with your deck! All my decks run smoother due to this formula as well. I actually made a video about the card draw thing called "The Seven Types of Card Draw" right here on the channel. I explain it a bit there! Thank you again for commenting!
@@ManfredPlusMagic i like your take on casual win cons. Thats something I struggle with as I agree with the philosophy of cedh but enjoy "casual" games (7-8 on a scale, riiight underneath that fringe line) so I sometimes struggle with powering down my decks. The deck I run thassa in, draws a bunch of cards in bursts with silver dragon, has Kydele turn that into mana and then I like to genesis wave my library and drop thassa on the field. So its kinda like a consult, only its 3/4cards with total cost 16+ mana, combat damage trigger and a roll of a d20 After watching this video I was inspired to use your template and put my Varina lich queen back together. And right out of the gate it did the thing. I admit I tweak the numbers a bit, something like 13 ramp / removal and i also like to use all my flex and some of my meat into enablers for the commander. But yah, you have a winning formula for a working template. I will watch your other vids and make sure to like and subscribe ;) cheers
Gotta say this is the best video I’ve seen. I watched this and thought yep got it, then watched something else and lost it all lol. Thank you for helping

Yes! 100% your decks aren't set in stone
This is, bar none, the best video and template I’ve seen for commander deck building. Great work!
🥹🥹🥹 oh my gosh thank you so much! That's so kind!
As a new player thank you. Easy straight forward, not an hour long video. Clear easy to follow! I’ll be using this templet to tune my Lathril deck. 🙏🏻
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me 🥹 I'm glad it could help
I was looking for a video that shows a simple breakdown and wasn't an hour long! Thanks dude 😎
You're welcome! Glad you found this

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind as well

Aww thank you so much, glad it was able to help you!
Thanks for the advice! I'll be going through all my decks and revamping them based on this video.

Thank you so much! Glad you found it useful and hopefully your friend does too.
I definitely need to have more targeted removal in my decks!
I would usually include counter spells in the protection category since that’s how I tend to use them, but I understand your placement of them too.
Yeah it's hard to place things sometimes. A lot of spells are very interchangeable as well. That's what makes it hard...
Great video manny!!
Thank you! I hope it helped you!
But now that my secrets are out, I'm worried 😬😆
It's not gospel of course but I have arrived at almost the same exact ratios in my deck building through experimentation.
Solid video!
That's how I felt. And thank you so much!

Commanders that do card draw can be very helpful too.
Thus guy sounds like "Flats" the overwatch/Marvel Rivals RUclipsr 😂❤ love this video
Flats must be pretty cool then 😉
Thank you so much! Glad you love it!
Could you please make a video on making politic decks? :)
I sure can try! I'll add it to the list
Would love to see a diagram or put the numbers next to the time stamps for how much cards per section
Oh man I wish I could put images at the time stamps! Sadly, I can't.... RUclips limitation...
Hi from Italy! when you talk about draw spell, is it to intend any kind of draw spell, recursive draw spells (permanents) or one-shot draw spells?
Great question. I should have gone into that more. It's a combination of both. If you have too many of one or the other, your gameplan will slow down. Try and put 5-6 of both kinds in the deck to start with.
Have a friend that applied this to his already deadly Miirym deck and it’s made it more efficient and we die just that little bit faster
Oh man... That's so cool! (Sorry for you guys though... 😆) Miirym is really good

“Enablers” are “facilitators” to the strategy ^ it’s the lubricant that helps the engine runs.
Ooh I like that!
I'd say the "enablers" are anything that synergizes with your strategy.
for commanders that can help with one of the categories, (mass remover, targetted removal, card draw, etc.) do you need the amount you said in the video or can you go a bit lower
Since it's probably a reoccurring thing, You could lower it. You just have to factor in the mana cost of the commander.

Oh I've never heard of that kind of build, seems like it could work 😂
And I agree, decks are constantly evolving
Ill also chip in and say try for at least some graveyard hate as well but preferably not a card dedicated to it but an added bonus to another card
Yes! Extremely important! Thraben Charm is one of those
I would say: CARD DRAW:12-14 REMOVAL (Depends on Archeotype): Aggro/Combo:10-13 Ramp:14/16 Control:17-20 MANA BASE: Aggro:47-48 Control_Combo:49-50 Ramp:53-54 ENHANCER:7+ ENABLERS:7+ THEME:20-30+ FINISHER:2-4
The cards are on the screen half a second would help a newbie like me to leave them up so i can read them thanks!
I always think, they can pause the video. But I just rewatched this for myself and things are up for a pretty short period of time. I'll lengthen these in the future!
i'd classify bread and butter as synergy cards, and nuance was super vague. Other than that great template.

36 is already an iffy land count. Especially for new players who tend to run a ton of 5+ drops in their decks.
Better make that 40. 😅
Dude this isnt the way to build a deck
