    Here is another way of putting a motor in the Orient Express: brickset.com/article/102806/motorising-the-orient-express

      Hey, designer of the rebrickable version. There basically isn't a difference between those 2 setups besides the attachment method so they'll run the exact same, mine is a little less conventional but I use it with great success at conventions.
      The only other difference is that I tried to use as little extras parts as possible to make it as much accessible as I could.

    So, the engine will work well if it's pulling different (lighter) rolling stock.

    It looks pretty good and smooth because it is old train and not a new diesel train. I might bought this

    Thanks so much for this informative video. I was skeptical about trying this out with mine. Guess I'ma have to go for it now. That was so cool footage of it going around your layout, which this train is themed perfectly for

    AmourAll works well to lubricate plastic parts like axles or sliding shafts. Just a drop is all you need.

    Nice job dude. I personally will be using 9v for mine, if I ever get one, (kinda expensive), and I should hope a pair of good old reliable 9v Motors in the tender and under the first car will be sufficient. I might have to redesigned the trucks, but that shouldn’t be too difficult.
    Anyways, Rockatoa, Brickticks out.
    P.S. do you need any narrow gauge rolling stock? I’ve been working on several designs for engines and cars for Narrow Gauge, including a number of shed designs, so I’d be happy to share. I might someday upload them to Rebrickable, but we’ll have to see.

      Thanks! I love Rebrickable, it is a great place to find LEGO MOCs, especially train stuff. It would be great to see your stuff there.

    If you could? I would love to see a video of what i would take to get it running long-term on your layout, as i would like to do the same one day!
    Thanks for that input so far 👍

    A lot of batteries will drop voltage pretty early on, and then stay quite consistent for a while. I think racingbrick did a video in it that shows a graphs. There are some batteries that are designed to keep a constant voltage though. You could also try investing in a buwizz to make the train go even faster.

      I will check out his video. We ran that set of batteries for about 20 min while filming, then I let it sit for a couple of hours until my grandson showed up. We got another ~20 min before the hub started blinking low power. So around an hour of running.

    My other bit of disappointment with this set is the lack of magnetic couplers. making it impossible to couple up to other engines and rolling stock without some quick modding.

    How did you manage to have the coupling rods not interfere with the wheel synchronization? I followed the instructions from rebrickable but the wheels with the flanges get locked up once I attempt to accelerate

    • @BrickTrains
      @BrickTrains  Год назад +1

      The main thing is to quarter your wheels. So on one side the connect rod will be on top, but on the other side it will be 90 degrees either forward or back.

    Glad you got it running but I can see why it did not pass LEGO's stringent testing. Eating batteries and needing wider radius track are probably what killed it but I guess they did their best leaving enough room in the tender for the battery etc.

    • @BrickTrains
      @BrickTrains  Год назад

      Yeah I was very pleased that it was as easy to modify as it was. It sure does look like they tried.

  • @Mardigrasman23

    So apparently motorizing isn’t the problem. The problem is the weight. Tearing up motors or burning up batteries is the issue. Would second motor help. Prob yes for the weight but then it really would burn the batteries I guess. What’s your expert option.

    • @BrickTrains
      @BrickTrains  Год назад +1

      So putting the motor in the way I have it is the cleanest way I can see. Yes a 2nd motor would help, and multiple motors do not seem to eat batteries as much as a motor that is working way over it's capacity. It realy feels like LEGO wanted to put a motor in it, but just could not over come the weight problem.

    I think I can I think I can... I really appreciate the struggle and the ramble, every time I go to turn my trains on (which is only twice a year because I spend all of my time trying to build things detailed up) I have to get the instructions out or watch a video on how to do it exactly.🙄🤔😖🤨🫣 It looks awesome for a pre-war train on your layout. I would never join a LUG because I want to do things my way. I've never checked to see how long my 8-wide trains could run, but, they are of my design and I haven't gotten any of the BMR stuff yet. I wonder how long your Big Boy with a typical consist would run for. I guess the question is, would a person such as myself be happier if LEGO had simply said, you can motorized it if you want, it's heavy, it's going to burn batteries up... Have fun. I still don't like it, I'd rather buy train pieces for equal the price!!!!!!
