Should conference teams HAVE to declare their independence and stand on their own two feet? Lets see all these big programs from any conference do it on their own. Yeah, no takers. For a good reason. No other team, other than Notre Dame can do it.
Just so you know Ross read your history and see how many times Notre Dame applied to join the Big 10 and they voted not to let them in. A lot of it was anti-Catholicism by Fielding Yost of Michigan. Now after repeatedly turning down their application to the Big 10 they want Notre Dame. If I was Notre Dame I would do the same thing and stay independent. Notre Dame has done just fine not being in a conference so why fix it if it ain't broke.
I never hear anyone ever say. U Mass needs to join a conference. Are U Conn needs to join the conference. You never hear that. Just Notre Dame. I'm so sick of hearing it. It's not going to happen. As a matter of fact they're going to stop with the conference championship games soon. And then what is everybody going to have to b**** about. Being in a conference is overrated. Teams join conference so they can pool their resources. Notre Dame doesn't need to do that. They have enough money to do what they need to do without turning a conference. Go Irish 🍀
Because it’s an obvious advantage for them to play one less game and in turn have a bye week while everyone else plays a conference title game that affects seeding etc
@@christopher7763no one forced teams to join a conference. If they think not being in a conference is an advantage they all have the opportunity to leave. I’ve been a ND fan for 40 years of my life. I haven’t thought every year is our year. It’s happened maybe 5 times in the last 20 years. I love that ND isn’t in a conference. I like that they play Miami, USC, Georgia, Michigan, etc. it’s awesome the variety of teams they schedule and would hate that they played Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa every season. How boring.
I simply don't understand the angst over what ND is doing or not doing. Every school out there made a choice at some point to join or not join or move or not move. ND values its independence and is doing everything it can to maintain it, even though it's been getting eaten bit by bit since the 90s.
Unfair advantage how we HAVE to go at least 11-1 to be entertained in the playoffs conversations teams in conferences can loose 3 game and still make a conference final and win a conference and still make playoffs..stop talking 💩
The answer to this question is no. Independence allows ND to schedule as they see fit and it makes financial sense for them. It's hypocritical even to suggest it. All these teams during realignment have been chasing $$$ and jumping conference to conference and now, because ND is having success in the CFP, their status is a problem? Penn State and Miami used to be independents. Miami jumped the Big East to chase $$$. Give me a break. UConn is an independent and absolutely nobody is crying about them to join a conference. Army and Navy were independent up until a couple of years ago and nobody cared. This is all self interest BS. If I'm not mistaken as well ND had applied for Big Ten memberships twice and got blocked by Michigan.
I don't see how Texas can beat Ohio State but Tennessee's D was terrible and Oregon doesn't have one so it'll be interesting if Texas D can stand up. Howard gets rattled when pressured, especially if hit hard like he was at Michigan. People put the blame on the coaches with Michigan game but that isn't completely true. Having said that still expect OSU to win handedly
Yes. Either they join a conference or the conference championship game should be removed. Imagine if Penn St or Texas were seeded lower than ND for playing and losing an extra game. The current structure is definitely more of a punishment for those teams who make CC game. Having said that, i do think not being in a conference isn't the rosy option that everyone thinks it is. The margin for error is considerably lower for ND than any B10 or SEC team. Had they dropped one more, i won't be shocked if ND would've not made the playoffs so there's definitely a price that ND pays for not being in a conference so there's that.
Penn State and Texas should have been seeded lower than ND. That championship game not only guarantees a spot in the playoffs but gives you a first round bye. The conferences are guaranteeing themselves the payouts that come with quarterfinals and give them a better potential for the semifinal payouts. The BS part is having a committee pick whoever they subjectively want for the 8 remaining spots in the playoffs. Better solution, get rid of the byes, use computer rankings, only top 8 get in. Everyone else, be quiet.
@ Absolutely not. You have it all twisted. PSU and Texas were ranked higher than ND at the end of regular season. I believe Texas was the second seed, Penn St 3rd and ND 4th after 11-1 record. Now they have to play an extra game and if they lose, they slide below a team which sat on the couch? Nope, not fair at all. Secondly, only the winner of a conference championship game is guaranteed a bye, not the loser. It's nobody's fault that the seeding system was all messed up this time round (and not the committee's fault) but i trust that would be fixed moving forward. I agree with your last sentence wholeheartedly though. 8 is enough. Get rid of conference championship games too while you're at it and just have them meet in the quarters, semis and finale without anyone getting a bye.
These conference championship games are money grabs, and unneeded. You all just started doing them about 15 years ago for extra cash. How about the regular season champion is the champion. End of story
If any team could pull the National and Worldwide broadcasts ratings ND does they would resign immediately from their conference and sign a ND NBC type contract…no one else is close so none issue…just business
