  • On many movies bad guys explode safes open but is that even possible with out destroying the thing that you are trying to get out? We will find out that in this "important" scientific experiment just that! We also use high speed camera to see everything in ultra slow motion! Don't try this at home! We are trained professionals and everything was done in a safe manor!

Nice, I always love a good shaped charge. But honestly I think one wouldve been enough, placed on the top of the save above both locking bars. I think theres even the chance that the explosions from the four charges so close to each other couldve influenced the focus of the charges, similar to ERA.

Old school explosive safecracking relied on making overpressure inside the door so it blows outward. They would seal the crack around the door with putty except for a small opening on top, then drip a small amount of nitriglycerine into the crack with a syringe or something. The putty kept the nitroglycerine from just leaking out onto the floor. The result was a small explosion positioned just right for blowing the door out forwards, with minimal damage to the money inside. Crazy dangerous though, more than one safecracker blew himsel up because nitroglycerine is so sensitive. With modern plastic explosive, could maybe stuff it into the crack for the same effect much safer.

The mythbusters have done it ruclips.net/video/dxgPX5-cmvc/видео.html , its slow and unnecesary.
Attacks with explosives (not including gas attacks) are the least common, dangerous and the least likely to succeed. In Spain, in one year there were 4 or 5 attempts to open safes with explosives, none of them was successful.
In ATM safes, there is a technique that is to introduce gas through the slot in the door where the cash is inserted, with 1 minut or less, you can make the door open and even fly out. This works in almost all except some that have systems that neutralize these gases, slots that release the pressure and other techniques.

In "Blott on the Landscape" by Tom Sharpe, Blott decides that his beloved employer's MP husband is betraying her, and decides to open his safe, with a PIAT projector. This turns the contents into something of a pornographic jigsaw puzzle. You hit this safe with what looks like the equivalent of four PIAT projectiles, so you were lucky to find anything much inside! I suspect that precise aiming at the locking mechanism meant that the energy was largely absorbed by the only really substantial metal in the safe.
