His entire trailer was perfect IMO. Coming full circle was the best place to end it. It was incredibly tense just sitting there searching for even a single scrap of a clue as to who he could possibly be. Every reaction I've seen is practically synced to the frame of realization. King K Rool - This trailer and Banjo&Kazooie's were handled well, but the original, with the remixed Gangplank Galleon being revealed and the big croc making his return after a decade was massive. Banjo's trailer had similar impact, but the feel of the first topped it in my opinion. 2. Pyra/Mythra - This is 2 because they were my number one hope for Smash AND because the trailer was beautifully done, showing off much of the world of XBC2, and the main cast. It was fun and well made. 1. Joker - Nothing can beat the feeling of sitting in Gamestop that night, waiting for Smash to be released only minutes later, with the Game Awards playing in the background... when suddenly, the screen glitches to red, and the Phantom Thieves logo pops up. The banter between the Phantom Thieves leading to Morgana's best line had me thrilled. And then: "We're not the ones sending the card this time. In fact, we've been invited... Pyra/Mythra reveal was the best one imo. I was familiar with all the other characters but this was the first time I played the game before the character joined smash. It was such a different level of hype for me.
Joker's reveal might not be the absolute favorite among most fans, but I love it not just because of the character, but it was one of the only characters to not let the viewer know it was Smash until the reveal. Just having Joker running around in P5s beautiful art aesthetic, the other Phantom Thieves getting ready for another infiltration, only for Joker to flip the envelop to reveal a smash logo. It is simply perfection. No other reveal had that type of ambiguity because the rest were in a direct/smash presentation, meaning that people either knew it was a smash reveal no matter what (Byleth, Min-Min), or somewhat expected it (Isabel, Pyra). Joker on the other hand, was at the Game Awards, where Smash announcements never happened. Ultimate being released _the next day_ was just the cherry on top and why its number 1 for me.
Perhaps the greatest moment of 2020 for me was seeing my two favourite games of all time, Smash Ultimate and Minecraft crossover. I'm so thankful for Sakurai and his team's endless hard work to make us Minecraft fans so happy, there's so much love and attention to detail poured into the DLC.
best reveal. he was my most wanted character - and not just that. the day he was revealed was my birthday. imo that was the best thing to come of 2020 (even though there wasn't much competition really), and the fact it was on my birthday was a real treat for me too!
I found out about Steve in the middle of my band class last year, but I was too tired to care because I had my athletics class before that and we had to run like 2-3 miles. I then forgot that he had said that in 4 periods later in my history class and I almost screamed at the top of my lungs I was so exited lol.
Sephiroth's reveal was an absolute masterpiece. Not only did it have debatingly the greatest buildup to any trailer by having Galeem, the boss of Ultimate that pretty much defeated the entire cast except for Kirby, being killed in _one shot,_ and all of the characters (including us the viewers) gasping, waiting in expectance to see who it was, it gave us zero clue on who it was, until _one wing angel_ starts playing, giving those who knew well enough what that theme is the biggest goosebumps ever. The amount of Advent Children references, callbacks, and straight up frame by frame scenes with that Cloud vs Sephiroth scene (and Italian barbeque) just being perfection.
In the gameplay section of Pyra and Mythra’s trailer they threw in lots of cute references for fans of the game to catch, such as the character choice for the CPUs when showing off Mythra’s final smash. I feel like I’ve barely heard anyone mention this, so I thought I’d mention it here
Ok why is everyone forgetting the reveal of the doom slayer mii costume? Is it because Sora overshadowed it? And is there almost no videos about it? I’m so confused, I thought everyone wanted him in
Ok while I agree with your placement of byleth you can’t just use the “anime sword fighter” argument and then just put SORA as number 3. Side note the whole sword fighter hatred in my opinion is so strange. No other gifting game has fans that complain about stuff like this especially since it’s a video game crossover. Like yes people use swords. That doesn’t define them as characters.
I agree with you so much that I subbed. The worst part is that none of the people saying these things have probably ever played 3 houses. And on top of the Byleth has a unique move set too, so I don’t know why he’s being lumped together with the “anime sword fighter” group (that imo shouldn’t even exist). If anything, Sora is more of an “anime sword fighter” than byleth, people just like his series more and he’s more famous. That’s all it is. I could make some criticisms on the actual trailer, like since it was in a smash presentation as soon as it showed byleth we already knew who the character was and it was kind of just a meaningless suspense, and the dialogue part is a bit weird to me, but other than that it’s a good trailer. Imo, none of the revels for ultimate were actually bad, and if I was ranking these I would rank from pretty good to amazing, not bad to good. Anyways thanks for listening to me TED talk 😂
@@obi_ozi Well everyone that says they’re anime sword fighters aren’t wrong. At least sora is a cartoon even though Crash or Waluigi would’ve been better at sending smash off.
@@obi_ozi Speaking as an FE noob who has recently gotten into the series but hasn't played 3 Houses yet: The actual problem with the Byleth trailer is that Byleth comes across as incredibly bland. Just standing there getting talked to by Sothis and then flying away. Like what is actually special or interesting about Byleth that is communicated in this trailer? They play differently from other FE characters? Great, that's the bare minimum. What else? They don't really show what makes Byleth as a character interesting, so it just reinforces the idea that FE characters are boring with barely any personality.
I feel like out of all of the character reveals, steve was definitely by far the biggest, and most well recieved. While I think sora was an interesting fighter, I think as the final fighter, it was a bit dissapointing. steve however was so random, and so insanely unexpected that I feel like it would send the final fighter off with a bang.
Sora was in no way dissapoimting as the final fighter. He was literally the most perfect character to end on. Steve is too random and bizarre It wouldn’t really be a good way to send the game off with a bang. He also wasn’t that well received compared to other characters.
One thing I loved about the Isabelle, Joker, and pyra/mythra trailers was that you didn’t know instantly that it was a smash reveal trailer. Other trailers (especially ones that were it’s own livestream) didn’t give me the “WOAH WHAT” feeling cause I already know if I’m seeing something it’s going to be smash.
During sora trailer, they all turn back into trophy like the first smash cause its the end of smash ultimate, and the flame disappear. But an ember is still burning, revealing a last character. No problem
now that everyone is in smash ultimate, what's the next smash game gonna be about? Even more stages? Huge story mode? even more music? 16 player battles?
It should be a port with a bunch of new content and especially a full fleshed story even more than subspace it could have dialogue as speech bubbles with grunts like in Zelda.
Wait, wasn’t Sephiroth also revealed at the game awards? Why did you only mention how Joker was at the game awards, but not talk about how Sephiroth was also at the game awards
@@54F1_ still think Steve was the best tho, because it really feels out of nowhere and at first people still thinks it as a joke or prank and turns out it was real. @@ftheweebs6799 Steve is definitely up there at the top for me. But that Sephiroth trailer, damn that's good. But Byleth is the one who stole the show. That's the best one ;)
For sure, in terms of buildup it's phenominal. By far the best smash trailer ever, I could write an essay on what makes it so good. Steve is god, don't get me wrong, but I feel they revealed who it was going to be too early.
I'm honestly shocked Sephiroth is so low on this list. Well, I don't know what exactly your criteria for the ranking were, but when it comes to the trailers, I'd say he had the hypest one by far, and that's coming from someone who don't care much about Final Fantasy
Steve's reveal will always be my personal favorite, as a person who grew up during the golden age of Minecraft this character was like another father to me, and seeing the pixels of the cave when Mario was launched into, I was crying like a madman and cheering as if I won life
It's a bummer Waluigi didn't make it in. That's okay, the bear and bird make up for it. Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, best games ever. I'm trying to pretend Nuts & Bolts never happened. 😐
@Donny the epic gamer95 I suspect a bit of sarcasm in your comment. Understandable. I see where you come from. Just remember, though: Super Mario games are the cornerstone of Nintendo's popularity. Imagine a Nintendo console without a Mario game on it. I mean, come on, they added the freaking piranha plant to the roster! 😆 It could've just as easily been a paragoomba that turned into King Goomba for the final smash. It is amazing, though, seeing all of the franchises pulling together for one epic fighting game.
Waluigi is an assist trophy. Just run after and use every assist trophy you can find and hope your god Waluigi deems you worthy to appear before you to help you out.
Kazuya is actually interesting in the context of Tekken. He’s one of the biggest faces of that series and what makes him stand out and memorable is his morality alignment. Most fighting game protagonists like Ryu, Terry and Liu Kang are usually the heroes. Kazuya Mishima on the other hand is the opposite of that. Instead of fighting to take the final boss down, Kazuya’s reason for doing this is revenge against his father Heihachi. Why? Because not only did he kill Kazuya’s mother, who just so happened to come a demonic bloodline but when Kazuya was eight years old he tossed his son off a cliff and has sworn revenge in a never ending cycle of vengeance and hate. And after discovering his grown up son, Jin he not only tries to kill him but even tried to take his demonic power for himself. Because turns out Kazuya’s mother, Kasumi Haschijō comes from a bloodline called the Devil Gene it’s actually a genetic disorder that’s been passed down through several generations which explains why Kazuya has these abilities. And when he met a nature protector name Jun Kazama they met and ended up having a baby named Jin she taught him everything she knew about Kazama Style Karate and told him if anything were to happen to her he should seek out his grandfather Heihachi. He’s super rich with a multibillion conglomerate, his own army, weaponry and, just for kicks a Martial Arts tournament, the same one that Kazuya found out about. Anyway Heihachi trained Jin under the Martial Art Mishima Style Karate. He then went to search for a monster named Ogre, who supposedly burned his home down and Jun disappearing. Jin defeats Ogre but is then double crossed by Heihachi after he discovered he has the Devil Gene as he shoots a gun at him in the chest but is completely fine. So yeah Tekken has quite the crazy world, and these three have been not only the faces and driving force of Tekken’s story but Heihachi, Jin and Kazuya became some of the most well known fighting game characters. And all of this is why Kazuya is so interesting and a memorable character
You know what's annoying, literally every DLC character is broken when they first come out according to RUclipsrs. But then a month or two later no one talks about them and they don't dominate tournaments.
I decided to watch the Joker reveal from a video where the person was at the live event he got revealed at and even tho I alr knew how it went, it just felt so much more energetic. Super cool character and a super cool reveal.
personally even though I love smash ultimate, I want it to be the last game in the series because it feels like a fantastic finale to the series, especially with Sora's reveal
2 things: 1.Sakurai is not just the game developer of the decade, he's the game developer of the century lol 2. I mostly agree with this list, but I'd put Sephiroth higher
Sakurai wasnt the only person to work on smash, though. Hundreds of other dedicated workers helped create this game so they deserve some credit too even if sakurai is the director.
I hope they don’t cut characters in the next game. The next Super Smash Bros. game should come out in 2028, should have all characters, Waluigi, a new Subspace Emissary, and Smash Run.
I know it wasn't technically a reveal. But when I was a little girl my cousins swore up & down that Peach was in Smash 64 & you had to unlock her. I found out that wasn't true and was devastated. One day years later I go to that same cousin's house and he showed me his new game that came out & the Intro to melee starting playing. Once I saw that glove reach up in the air and revealed my girl Peach was in the game I literally ran around the house jumping for joy. 🥰💕
So if you say that Current's reveal was the worst one, you are saying that your reveal of the sponsor was worse than every Ultimate Character Reveal. Interesting.
Seeing 3 of these rankings not putting Pyra&mythra to high but still being very positive about it makes me more disappointed in introspektive take on it (no hate on anyone though)
@@slobertooth1358 Pyra&mythra trailer was the worst (even worse than byleth) It was "boring" and "dragged on" and that it was obvious that it was a smash trailer (mostly only the peoples who expect a smash reveal at the start of every direct would think it’s a reveal right away, most peoples didn’t know it was)
Personal ranking (discounting Mii Costumes, Daisy, Chrom, and Dark Samus): 18. Byleth 17. Pyra/Mythra 16. Banjo-Kazooie 15. Isabelle 14. Terry 13. Ken/Incineroar 12. Min Min 11. Kazuya 10. @@tessdale8745 Well it makes sense, but I feel like they could've done more instead of carbon copying the trailer as a whole. I would say why not continuing the K. Rool's trailer, say after the big punch and DK, Diddy, and K. Wait I just noticed when Mario and Sora are shaking hands, it’s like the first and last characters, completely wrapping up smash bros from start to finish.
I wish Daisy was unique and not literally just Peach. They could have given her a Mario spinoff themed moveset and made her model from Mario and Sonic or Mario Baseball. sad
Something great about this game is I don’t think any of the reveal trailers were bad, even some of the more lame fighters included. Also, Tbh my favorite reveal was probably Ridley. Just to see such a highly requested character get in was the beginning of anything being possible in this game 😊

Steve was honestly a big surprise since it died down but we never gave up hope with Steve in smash and then he came when we all least expected it 👏
best reveal. he was my most wanted character - and not just that. the day he was revealed was my birthday. imo that was the best thing to come of 2020 (even though there wasn't much competition really), and the fact it was on my birthday was a real treat for me too!
@@alexandergazmen3126 that is really amazing timing
#1 for me easily
He's number 1 hands down
Without question the best trailer. Even tho it was shot-for-shot Advent Children, Sephi’s trailer was amazing.

I’m so confused, I thought everyone wanted him in
Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t but twitter is definitely making content for that costume
i'm pretty sure doom guy overshadowed sora when the trailer was first released
I wanted him as a fighter
@@rubub8455 im pretty sure thats false, since dam its sora and seeing the coin of mickey is just terrifying
Honestly Sora is my favorite reveal and will be number one in my eyes.
Same
Ok while I agree with your placement of byleth you can’t just use the “anime sword fighter” argument and then just put SORA as number 3.
@@obi_ozi Speaking as an FE noob who has recently gotten into the series but hasn't played 3 Houses yet:
The actual problem with the Byleth trailer is that Byleth comes across as incredibly bland.
I remember something about Twitter literally breaking at Steve's reveal lol
One thing I loved about the Isabelle, Joker, and pyra/mythra trailers was that you didn’t know instantly that it was a smash reveal trailer. Other trailers (especially ones that were it’s own livestream) didn’t give me the “WOAH WHAT” feeling cause I already know if I’m seeing something it’s going to be smash.
The trophy thing in Sora's trailer might be a reference to the sleeping worlds that were taken over by darkness
Nit gonna lie, the trailers are the reason we got so hyped for the characters.
Why would you lie ab that? And that’s what the trailers are supposed to do
what I thought about the Sora trailer, is that the characters are “heartless” until Sora finally made it
It doesn't help that Byleth's trailer is also just cut from Fire Emblem: Three Houses
FYI Bandy had more of a reaction to seeing Daisy than Sora lol
During sora trailer, they all turn back into trophy like the first smash cause its the end of smash ultimate, and the flame disappear. But an ember is still burning, revealing a last character.
No problem
Man I can’t agree more to this list. Every single placing made so much sense!
Those “trophies” you mentioned in the sora reveal were amibos. (I believe so at least.)
I can't believe Nathaniel bandy predicted two characters that were actually right Steve and Sora
I legit got goosebumps thinking about when I was watching the "Everyone is here!" reveal live and absolutely losing my mind
now that everyone is in smash ultimate, what's the next smash game gonna be about? Even more stages? Huge story mode? even more music? 16 player battles?
It should be a port with a bunch of new content and especially a full fleshed story even more than subspace it could have dialogue as speech bubbles with grunts like in Zelda.
I was actually expecting this i am so glad he did this and well steve and seprioth was my favorite reveal in smash but still thank you bandy.
I think he is ranking the character choices instead of the trailers
putting byleth at the bottom makes me think the same
Wait, wasn’t Sephiroth also revealed at the game awards? Why did you only mention how Joker was at the game awards, but not talk about how Sephiroth was also at the game awards
Sephiroth is easily the best one.
for older fans yes

@@ftheweebs6799 Steve is definitely up there at the top for me. But that Sephiroth trailer, damn that's good.
But Byleth is the one who stole the show. That's the best one ;)
For sure, in terms of buildup it's phenominal. By far the best smash trailer ever, I could write an essay on what makes it so good. Steve is god, don't get me wrong, but I feel they revealed who it was going to be too early.
1:17 Lucina is like: Dad, are you okay?
I'm honestly shocked Sephiroth is so low on this list. Well, I don't know what exactly your criteria for the ranking were, but when it comes to the trailers, I'd say he had the hypest one by far, and that's coming from someone who don't care much about Final Fantasy
Steve is the only character that actually hyped me when reveled
Sphiroth's reveal is just awesome and should've been higher
But the other reveals were a little but better so it's ok
Sans appears on the thumbnail but doesnt appear on the video
The sans reveal still gives me chills!

Steve's reveal will always be my personal favorite, as a person who grew up during the golden age of Minecraft this character was like another father to me, and seeing the pixels of the cave when Mario was launched into, I was crying like a madman and cheering as if I won life
I feel like Kazuya's jumps into "HEY HERE'S THE CHARACTER!" too quickly

🤣🤣🤣
He is going to be in the next smash.
@Donny the epic gamer95 only 2 Mario characters per smash game. Ok
Is it me only or I love watching people freak out for their fav character in smash?
imo, Sephiroth should be higher. He had a very hype character reveal considering it was at Game Awards and how sick the trailer was.
Except for Sephiroth, Pyra and Mythra and Kazuya
It’s crazy how much effort Nintendo put into these

You're forgetting that Chrom and Dark Samus were added due to their popularity on the Fighter Ballot.
2 things:
1.Sakurai is not just the game developer of the decade, he's the game developer of the century lol
