James Carter is, in essence, the amalgam of Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Don Byas, Johnny Griffin, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Arnet Cobb, Illinois Jacquet, Eddie Davis, Ike Quebec, Stanley Turrentine, Charles Lloyd, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Courtney Pine, Michael Breaker... just to name a few legend "tenorists".
You can added the great Earl Bostic too; Carter is an unbelievable phenomenon technically but musically & emotionally speaking, he is far behind all those whom you quote...
@@SELMER1947 This is, by far, the most stupid thought about James Carter I've ever read. It has to be another jealous comment... You should dig and listen to all of his work before saying such an aberration. Not only James can do what the ones mentionned above do, but he also has an extreme sensitivity that is is own. He is so humble and can be funny in his playing, which is rare too in the world of Music.
@@paristexas919 And you should dig and listen to jazz history before saying clueless comment !!! Jealous ??? Of what ??? Of his technique and instrumental control, certainly yes...but not of his musical mind and what he became since many years... I loved him when he played with Lester Bowie, he was really great then, but now... he is more a showman who use music more to spread out his technique than the reverse and because of that he is not a great creator like Rollins, Lester Young, Hawkins, Coltrane... You see man, I know probably better than you what I'm talking about...
@@SELMER1947 I suggest that you listen to his interpretation of Caribbean Rhapsody. Then to his record with Hamiet Bluiett & James Blood Ulmer. You could also listen to his album "Darkest Light" that I bet you never heard of. And why not finish with "Pour Que Ma Vie Demeure"(2019). I hope you won't be ejected too fast on the moon and that you recover easily... By the way, you can call me sister, man. I'm glad you can use the words "Rollins, Lester Young, Hawkins, Coltrane" in the same sentence. The most know sax players of all time, and you think you know a lot about jazz?
@@paristexas919 Well sister, usually I never answer to arrogant and contemptuous people or especially to those who think they are giving lessons to the whole earth but the (pathetic) way you're using to convince me is quite funny... I should have talk about Harold Land, Shepp, Ayler, Herschel Evans, Chu Berry, Don Byas (James Carter's idol) Webster, Quinichette, Gonsalves, Lucky Thompson, Jimmy Forrest, Ike Quebec, Rouse, Golson etc...that your opinion is already made before I even finish to write... not true ? As for being ejected on the moon, it happened to me often with those I mentioned above, so... one more time or one less time... Relax sister, take a long breath and it will be fine
Toujours aussi fameux...merci nous vous avons vu debuter a Vienne chez Jean François!!! Merci Gérard et Monique
