Blackie, I've had my Spiller & Burr for awhile. I too, noted the slight "canted barrel" problem. Among my vast number of gun & other projects currently on my plate (I finally retired in Decembr of 2022 after 45 years as a Mechanical Designer in the Engineering Field) I intend to correct my S&B Barrel malady in the near future. I appreciate all of your thoughts and commentary on the Spiller. I've got a RICE Barrel Breech Tool (Magnetic Set) for my Bench Vise. Together with a small angle iron forward front frame jig I'll make, & a good soaking of Kroil & shopzilla...hopefully I can carefully separate bbl & frame. I love ALL of your Percussion Revolver Series videos!
Did the same thing with mine defarbed and trimed up every thing. Even opend the cylinder to .376 11 degree forcing cone cleaned up all internal parts shoots great! .375 rou d ball over 12 grn 3 f goex. Nice job there slim!
Wow! Still Have me like a Big Ole' Bass with my mouth open and eyes rolled back! I gotta find meee a kit! I did this for 1st time in 1977ish at age 12, $80 was a lot of my summer.
Adding a gas cut to the frame is imperative in any black powder revolver otherwise the fouling will make it difficult for the cylinder to rotate while putting to much stress on the mechanism, particularly the hand.
Nice job Blackie, that looks like a fun project. I think I would be afraid of screwing it up and making it shoot worse. I looked at the revolver kits on the Dixie Gun Works website, I was hoping they would be a lot less expensive than the finished revolvers. But they are just as expensive. Bummer.. when you got your revolver kit, was it fully disassembled? did you have to put it together piece by piece? thanks.
I think the kits come fully assembled.....and shootable, as is........they require finishing to look nice. Some people work them to a very fine finish. Blackie intends his gun for use in the field and he is going to antique it, so some imperfections are acceptable.
correct..they come assembled and it works but ya still need to go back thru and deburr and polish a bit plus work on the cosmetic thinks like finishing grips ect
I once saw a smith take the barrel of a revolver and lock it in a vice (padded of course), then use a board that fit snugly in the frame to pop one loose.
I can’t find any Pietta Spiller and Burrs anywhere. I’ve barely found any blackpowder guns for sale. I don’t know if it’s cause of the Corona virus or people scared that the government is going to enforce strict gun laws. But it’s awful trying to get anything
I'm anxious to see the results of the firing. You've done so much work to her, maybe a name like "Cher" or "ZsaZsa" would be good? Lol! Anyway, as always, Blackie, great video! Brian
I always slug my barrels, and then check the fit of the ball to the cylinder. If they do not fall in the cylinder then I bore the cylinder to .375. If the ball will not drop in the cylinder than it will be under size going down the barrel.
What then, holds them in the cylinder when you fire it? Or for that matter whenever it is pointing downward? And you know the interference fit kf the ball detours chain fires dont you?
many of the original guns be it colt rem or even the whitneys often show some sort of gunsmithing mods..I have seen in museums 51 navys with blade front sights..seen a 1860 with a fixed shoulder stock..then like now guys like to tinker with the guns to get a edge or some advantage
I love this revolver series. Always learn something new. Thank you.
thanks hope to keep making these
Beautifully done Blackie! It looks great. Filing the printing away is so much nicer while not faking it. Kind Thanks! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

The project is coming along nicely. Thanks for the update and thoughtful tips.

Looking good blackie!
thanks
I admire your skill and knowledge.
thank you
A little chalk will make the draw filing go easier.
Amen! Keep those file teeth clean.
yep i was fresh out or i would have done that too
Blackie, I would like to get one of those kits for myself. Could you tell me where you got yours?
Adding a gas cut to the frame is imperative in any black powder revolver otherwise the fouling will make it difficult for the cylinder to rotate while putting to much stress on the mechanism, particularly the hand.
exactly.. and the spiller and burrs are way too tight and will foul quick and bind up this was a problem on the original one i had
Nice, look forward to results.
Thanks 👍
Love watching your videos!
Thank you so much!
What about the sharp heel on the grip ?
Have you posted the shooting of this pistol? Would love to see it. ;-)

i have done that on a single action army before
Blackie, for hunting is this pistol to be used for small game or as a back-up weapon for big game? Or both?

Blackie: Are your mods period correct or shooter specific? Thanks for a great video

Oh, and I also tapper the inside of the forcing cone to 11dergees.
Who the hell are the two thumbs down people?
