  • In this video, we go over the basic maintenance of deep-cycle lead acid batteries.

    1 Signs of over flowing electrolyte,
    2 Electrolyte level-top off to 1/4 inch above the plates
    3 Loose connections causing heat buildup in wires

    What if water level drops slightly below the plate before topping up, (like that cell in the video), can that cause a problem ? It happened to me yesterday, didn't check water levels on time . . . Thank you.

      The lower it drops, the less capacity it has. I'm not sure what the critical level is, but I know if it gets too low, the acid starts eating away at the plates too quickly. It's the water that evaporates, so the more water evaporates, the stronger the acid becomes. A little low, like the one shown, is not a big deal, though
