I was once at a brass competition back in 2002. 5-6 of the contestants was from my teacher. He must have told all of us to play villanelle. The judges joked they were going to ban it for next year. Very fond memories. Of course didn’t manage to hit the high high C at the end or “triple tongue” the 5 high c snd ascending scale leading to it.
I like his vibrato! What a beautiful, lovely, shimmering sound, from 0:45 to 2:05. This contrasts well with the rest of the piece. Radek is a real artist!
I had never heard this with orchestra. I thought it was written for horn and piano. I'm not complaining, just wondering. I like it. Who orchestrated this?
The piece was originally written for horn and piano on request from Gabriel Fauré as an exam piece for the Paris Conservarory. The orchestration for horn and orchestra is by Odette Metzegner, created on March 3, 1929 at the Concerts du Conservatoire with Louis-Édouard Vuillermoz as soloist.
so what i'm hearing is that i'm supposed to play the first page of this song without valves when even this guy cant do it? whatever happened to "très modéré (without valves)"??
Im a horn player as well and im saying i think the guy doing this as a career knows what hes doing. If you dont want vibrato go listen to dennis brain or barry tuckwell.
I see where you're coming from. I'm not a huge fan of vibrato on horn either, but I still like listening to Baborak because his technical skill is unparalleled by most players in the horn world right now. (Just my opinion!) But yeah, vibrato on horn sounds strange to me.

Radek is the greatest horn player in the world. Complete total mastery of the instrument.

It was originally written for horn and orchestra. The piano accompaniment is just a reduction of the orchestral score.

Lllllllllllllllllllll
Amazing recording
Bravo
bravo
He doesn't have a double c, but he knows to use the valves in the opening because it sounds dumb the composer's intended way.
...and all those notes encompassed the autocar!(a Dennis Brain reference)Translated: why would Radek need music for this performance?

who says you should play it without valves?
@@SpaghettiToaster the sheet music, and the nyssma

That's way I was taught it college 40 years ago.
He can do it, just a musical choice. It’s supposed to emulate the hunting horn. I’m playing those parts without valves.

No vibrato on horn please. Can't listen to this.
+hughman55 ???? Why
+hughman55 I think i would follow Radek, hes the professional after all ;)
But I'm the audience, and a horn player, and I get to decide what I like and don't like. I don't like vibrato on horn. It's cheap.
