    Lapped means ground with a cutting paist, valves are lapped after they are ground to mate the surfaces together it is a process that gives a finer finish after the initial machining.

    80s especially early 90s Enya engines are without a doubt amongst the best.

    I have a SS40 in an own-design model that has done many hundreds of flights and it's still good. As you say - you can't kill them. One benefit you don't mention is the low weight - in comparison with the SS40BB or pretty well any other 40. Simplicity, low weight and plenty of power: hard to beat. Oh and "hand lapped" means one of the (three) Enya brothers apparently spent about 20 seconds with piston, cylinder and lapping paste hand lapping every engine.

    I’ve got two ENYA SS40’s. The later version has a two piece muffler, a bit more like the OS mufflers. I think I prefer the one piece muffler. Judging by the amount of crud on that engine I’d estimate it’s had a lot more than a gallon of fuel through it. Mine looks similar condition and I ran it for years. Just about to do my own SS40 engine cleanup and not being able to get that cleaner you advertise, I’m actually going to use Ethylene Glycol mix with water (taking all precautions) and simmer it for an hour or two. Saw this on a British YT video. Just testing on the muffler first in case it doesn’t work.

    What cleaner or solvent do you recommend to clean old EXTRAMLY gummed up engines? say I only have the cleaner you suggest and a toothbrush no ultrasonic.

    Very nice video and the engine looks new if not almost new, wondering what solution you used in the ultra sonic cleaner to clean it

    What solvent is recommended. Videos of this type never mention it!

      Wrong. I have mentioned it MANY times in MANY of my videos. If you can’t find them then I cannot help you. Each RUclips channel has a search function. It is very easy to find what you are looking for.

    Sure that the SS means "Super Sport"? I remember to having read it means "Schnuerle Scavenging" which would make sense since the predecessors were still cross-flow.
    Edit: Okay .. the manual says "Super Sport". Still not totally convinced, there could be a difference between the marketing and engineering meaning.

      I used to spray the LA's on and scrub. NO MORE! This ultrasonic is THE best investment I have made in a LONG time.

      After watching your videos David I’m definitely investing in an ultrasonic cleaner too. Just having trouble trying to decide between the 3L size or the 6L size. The 6L has a drain tap which might be handy but I’d have to use more cleaning fluid each time, so it’s hard to decide.

    I have a plain bearing Thunder Tiger GP-42 that's worn out. It's in very good condition with excellent compression and has never had a hard crash. If I want to replace the block with its plain bearing (I can get a new one on ebay for $18), will the crank fit ok? I'm not sure about the tolerances?

    I much prefered Enya and Super Tiger engines over OS.

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  5 лет назад

      I liked the OS engines from the 80's-90's over their ones from the 2000's to present with 2 exceptions. The V series FS62 and 95 are extremely excellent engines. But as a general rule of thumb Enya engines are preferred.

    I appreciate your videos a lot but this one is a little disappointing. You spent half of the time talking and then you cut the part where you disassemble the engine which for noobies like me would have been very important.

      No LA at HF. Dollar Tree or Dollar General. DT is a bit less expensive.
