- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- Haulover Inlet in Florida is a popular spot for experienced boaters seeking a thrill. Known for its challenging conditions and strong currents, the inlet connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and is famous for its rough waves and strong winds, which can make boating hazardous. Despite the risks, many boaters are drawn to the inlet's challenging conditions and the opportunity to navigate through it.

SAD day for this captain. UNEXPECTED turn that could have led to injuries and loss of the boat.I'd appreciate if YOU could share advice on how to handle such situations, to assist our large audience in potential future incidents. Thank you in advance !!
I’m no captain however I would think getting the anchor out earlier and tying it to the bow would have been better.
Get on the radio and ask for HELP!
Don't put yourself in that situation. He took a vessel that had no business being there and asked it to do something it would have had trouble doing when it was new fifty years ago. The easy fix to this is to MAINTAIN your equipment.
I certainly am no expert and generally use smaller (16-18 ft) aluminum fishing boats on fresh water but have been boating accident for 50 years. I respect the water,I know it does not give a hoot about my safety so it is up to me. Maybe get the anchor out quicker, try to get the bow into the waves, and call the Tow Boat guys immediately. At least no-one was hurt, looks to be minimal damage to the boat but I wager one very bruised ego. Also do very extensive checks prior to casting off and get proper engine maintenance per the manufactures recommendations. If they lost power 10 miles out it could have been much worse. Set up a checklist and follow it prior to setting off.
having the correct length of line on the anchor would be my first thought. way too short and no chain to help keep the anchor on the bottom. NEVER get between the beach and your boat. There is NO way you will be stronger then the waves that are hitting the side of any craft, even a jet ski will just run you over, the wave is just too strong. #1 though, have a membership to a boat tow company in your area. Cost for no membership in this case is more then the boat is worth. I would say in this case of a beaching, 4500.
this is pure comedy! god bless these muppet captains who do everything for our personal entertainment. 🤣
Anchor from the bow. Keep bow pointed into surf. Have suffucient anchor line...80 to 100', so his anchor has a chance to deploy in the sand. Do not have your line tied/spliced as it appears.
That poor guy! He has no clue who to do.
I'm watching the pedestal seats in the beginning. Was sure they were about to snap off just wallowing around. Plus, is an older boat with an inboard. I'm guessing not a lot of upkeep was done.
More than the boats worth
Gotta drop that anchor as soon as motor died. And for God's sake, never anchor so the stern is taking the waves!!!
what a wonderful place 😅❤😊
Some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed.
what would I do....maybe for starters, not go out when I'm drunk. All three look, act, appear to be wasted.
The video is so beautiful, the waves are great, thank you for the video
I feel bad for the guy. Hard lesson learned but thankfully everyone was alright, even his boat survived.
Rip the wallet, I bet they charged $1000’s
Good that its soft sand with no stones. So the boat will probably be ok.
The dumbass had his outdrive Fully out didn’t even have the common sense to raise it
This wellcraft is literally on offer up
How exciting to be #1.
welcome !!
the 2 passengers.....
Happened to me but lucky I was in a 15' jon boat, on a lake.
Jumped overboard and swam the hell away
I have one in Venezuela ( Wellcraft Sportsman 248 ) With twin YAMAHA 150 Hp, Four stroke and its a great boat. I feel sad for this oldie. I don't believe it has suffered too damage and I hope to see them against Haulover Inlet in another chance.
Looks like they didn't even have lifejackets. Very unprepared
It can happen to any captain, but it doesn't have too. Captain fail to recognize the danger. One must be aware that, in case of lose of propulsion, the wind, waves and current may drift the boat. In this case, the combination led them to shore. Captain should've droped anchor sooner. A secure anchor point on a boat isn't the stern. It's the bow. That is why, on my boat I have a cable which is called, according to weakipedia Hawser, here we call it Boça, which is use for this purpose. I use it for anchoring, but it is designed to tow me if needed. I consider this captain a lucky C because not every inlet has a perfect landing spot like the one here. No damage has been seriously done to the boat, only the captain's pride was hurt in this video, which is good. Well, there was a slight back flip while one of the passengers was trying to get out, other than that. I hope everyone is fine.
Beautiful vintage Wellcraft! Never mind captain, these happen
Very nice boat👍🏿🤙🏿
Is that clowns cell phone glued to his ear
Is that George the animal steel ?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
George no brains tin
if you dont mind me asking, once they were able to tow the boat back into the open water, why didn'y the captain and his passengers get back on the boat, or werent they allowed to get back on the boat?
Should've bow anchored it, earlier.
He obviously doesn’t have the right anchor undersized with too short of a rope and definitely did not know how to use it even if he had the right anchor and line.
Captain should have dropped anchor with bow into the waves. Would have absorbed the energy a little better.
Nesse caso tinha que soltar a âncora pra ele girar e ficar aproado com a onda, aí vai subindo aos poucos até chegar na areia. Sorte não ter pego uma onda grande na popa
Anchor time !
He had the wrong size anchor and too short of a rope even if he had the correct equipment, he still would not known how to anchor the boat.
Huh, I guess there is such a thing as a bad day on the water.
I would of anchored into the waves and called sea tow
Do you Yanks have to have a boat licence to Skipper a vessel?
At 4:25 the captain finds out how much the tow is gonna cost. Watch his reaction.
The only certain way to prevent that is to not leave the dock.
Talk about over-staffed! How many boats do you need to attend one beached pleasure-craft!
So how much for the tow?
@ 8:17 was that someone IN THE WATER IN THE INLET??? tO THE STARBOARD/RIGHT FRONT of the tow-boat???
thrown anchor off bow
The cost is more than vessel value! Salvage job. The company is actually up to percentage value vessel at the time of salvage.
Good thing he didn't get pushed out further out to sea or hit another boat or rocks causing more damage
have enough anchor line which is way more than most understand.................AND anchor from the front of the boat LOL WTF? MIke Davison Outdoors on u tube. We really risk our lives in the pacific northwest fishing on the Pacific ocean for Halibut, ling cod, salmon etc. No room for errors in our boats.
if you are on a beach already, just take trailer)
every boat should have two means of propulsion. having a fail safe is important.
Ugh! Step 1: immediately throw out anchor when engine dies. Step 2: Put at least 7 scope of anchor line out. He did not have nearly enough anchor line out to let the anchor hold properly. Step 3: tie the anchor to the bow of the boat so the boat is facing into the wind/current. Many mistakes unfortunately. Completely preventable.
That’s gonna cost an arm and a leg
Please can someone tell me if these Skiboats have intercoolers on the inboard engine. Intercoolers allow for fresh water cooling of the engine.
Don’t think so, those things are made for calm fresh water.
Intercoolers are used to cool intake air on a turbo engine. Your thinking of a heat exchanger using sea water to cool antifreeze that circulates thru the engine block. Yes, many inboard boats this size have these as an option.
Yes. Either name. I see many inboard engines die a catastrophic death with salt water cooling including the bigger diesels. When that happens the credit card takes a knock or the boat is sold.
@@xnewguyx2738the inboard engine boats will need to run on inland waters that is distilled because there are so many soluble solids that are almost as bad as sea water
Excuse my term Skiboat but that is what we generalise down here in South Africa. Here the Skiboats of 16ft run deep. We have a canyon that they run to which is 30nm south west. Fishing is not easy from Western Cape.
As the captain, i would've.. sailed somewhere else.
Why are they anchoring right out of the inlet 😂
Dude throw out the hook
Drop anchor off front first thing ALWAYS
Would of dropped anchor of bow right when engine failed
Is that the lead singer from Korn?
It's pretty clear that single engine boats intended for the lake really have no business in the Ocean.
drop the hook
He should have dropped anchor and called SeaTow
Maybe I am profiling, but to me it looks like the kind of guy who is going to show the prep school/trust fund types that have yachts with quad Mercuries that he can roll that way too. And he doesn't need no stinking life jackets, shirt or maintained equipment to do that either!
Yeah. Poor people are the worst. 🙄
Get the boat service once a year.
the three stooges need their own show........
Motley crew
I thought the guy in the green might of been his long lost brother.
1. Recognize waters you’re in.
2. Radio for help.
3. Drop anchor.
He did none of these. Ergo, had no biz being out there.
Lucky
His first mistake was the condition of the seas related to his craft. He was in over his head before the exited the jetty. Guy was fooked and by chance the vessel was beached on sand. What would I have done differently ? Seas were too rough for that craft. My vessel would not have been in that situation in the first place. 100% error on the Captain No Hair.
Well he had no hair but certain plenty of gut.
been watching for a couple years and lately it seems everyone at this inlet has a beverage of choice... and no one has a lifejacket
👍👍
How much $$$ is this ??
That looks expensive. Gonna have to sell the boat.
This is hilarious
At the end of the day that captain leaves with a hefty bill and a hernia
Are they wasted?😂
Habia uno durmiendo adentro?
Pasados d merca,y el ancla no la saben tirar al agua?
Strike 1 to late of attempt strike 2 not enough line on anchor strike 3 tied to stern not bow and your on the beach.
Revoked that Captains permit..... he did everything you are not supposed to do !!!
Don’t anchor from the stern.
They all looked drunk. Then once it washed up, why even try to push it lucky they didn't get caught underneath. I'm not a captain or a professional boater but have run a boat for many years and saw some things done incorrectly. As long as no one got hurt is the main thing.
Tragic?
So what did it cost?
Just a tow is like $1000. Id say this beach salvage is $2000+.
Wait till he sees the bill.
I would have helped them if I was there. Love testing my outboard Yamaha's power
Those tow boat guys look a bit inexperienced at handling both towing gear and ground tackle.
why would he pay ???? its covered by insurance.
I'm most bothered by the small children being too close to that tow operation. Had that line snapped.......
costly and annoying but no tragedy
Some people just shouldn’t own boats
That dude did everything wrong. Then his skinny bjddy just popped up and walked away! Wtf. Dude once the pros show up, just back up.
This guy is utterly clueless. Why do so many boats owners not research what to do in these events? He doesn't even know to keep the bow pointed at the waves...
I think he won’t need to pay, coz in Omerica everybody helps each other for free,,lol
Wrenched hell out of the lower unit pulling it back off the beach. Shame.
Yeah, push the boat back out. You're probably stronger than the ocean 🙄
Looks like that crew spends all their boat maintenance money on beer and weed
U can’t park there m8 😂😂
The “captain” doesn’t seem to be familiar with anything related to boating, boats, water, surf, motors, wind, waves, or common sense.
Damn get in the game man that was terrible
should have dropped anchor from the bow .no one would help this man the two people he had with him just walked away the cops did nothing but sit with their i dont know why they even show up the tow boat co will charge him four grand to salvage the boat to bad anyone can buy a boat with no training on how to use it to bad i felt bad for the guy oh by the way i live in CT you need a safety course to operate a boat or watercraft
newb
common sense isn't all that common.
Did they save the meth? asking for a friend.
you can't park there. It's a swim zone.
This has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I'm not even a boater and I saw so many things that I know have to be wrong
If you're over 40 and still don't have one ounce of common sense, well thats on you. No sympathy.
geeeez, lengthen that anchor rope... turn the front into the waves....... learn how to navigate a boat!!!
