  • Alpine Club member and Editor of the Himalayan Journal Harish Kapadia has, over a period of nearly two decades, conducted interviews with many notable figures from the world of mountaineering.
In 2023, Kapadia formally made a gift of these recordings to the Alpine Club Library. From December 2023 onwards, we will be releasing these interviews once a week via our RUclips channel so that they can be enjoyed by mountain-enthusiasts throughout the world. Episodes will release on Thursday mornings UK time.
The second interview we are releasing was conducted in February 2012 with British mountaineer Stephen Venables. Harish and Stephen discuss Stephen's youth in the UK, his early expeditions to Afghanistan and his famous ascent of Everest's Kangshung Face.
The Alpine Club Library holds a wealth of mountaineering material to which we are very pleased to add these recordings. You can learn more about the Alpine Club Library, and the Alpine Club more generally, via our website: www.alpineclub...

. It is great to hear people, some of whom I knew 50 yrs ago, like Stephen. Love the background sounds of a typical Indian city

I was friends with Ed Webster. We often talked about this climb. And, of course, looked at his fingers. He taught me a lot.
    Wonderful interview. Thank you.

A very interesting watch. I was sorry to hear about the Venables` family suffering later on.
Only one thing confused me - he refers to Harish in the third person. But the blurb above implies it was him doing the interview.

You are correct. We believe Stephen was speaking "for the record" as it were, identifying Harish for the camera rather than saying "you".
