  • We're going back in time a bit for the next few videos. I poured these bars last year, but they turned out so great... there's no way I couldn't share the experience with you!
    Four 5oz bars and one 10oz bar of .999 fine gold! What an opportunity! I love pouring these big monsters. It gets my heart pounding every time. I hope you enjoy it too! Thanks for tuning in!!

Methods of dropping the gold out of solution and whatnot. Keep up the great work and will be looking forward to many more. Best wishes !!!

    Question.. Why stamp on the front? The ripples are awesome and with that finish wouldn't it be better to preserve the ripples and stamp the back?

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  3 года назад +3

      Well... two big reasons. First, that's where 90% of the beauty is and I want my marks to add to that overall display. To do otherwise, at least to me... would almost be akin to painting on the back of your canvas, in order to not dirty the front lol
      Second, I don't know of a way to stamp the backs of the bars without marring up the front. I've tried many different mediums, and nothing works. The gold is so soft, the lines just get crushed. I've cried over it one or twice lol

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  3 года назад

      I'm not sure where you buy and sell your precious metals... but in my circles, nice hand pours and vintage bars fetch solid premiums on resale. Heck... where do you pay spot for physical gold?! Even generic. I buy a lot of gold, lol and I still pay above spot.

    • @CuSTACKS
      @CuSTACKS 3 года назад

      @@LithicMetals I meant when it's time to liquidate. Don't get me wrong you do fine work my friend. Love the craftsmanship. If I were to buy from you it would retain most of the metal value, but when I go to liquidate it would be hard for me to find buyers to want to give me the current spot price or even trust if the bar is real which I know it is but they don't unless they have an RXF gun and even that would not pull back a premium. If I were to resell on the 2ndary market maybe I'd get back some of the premium. Not easy to cash out.

      Yeah, this was pretty bad. In the months since I actually poured these, I have made a few changes to the lighting. Hopefully in future videos you will see an improvement!

      Either from karat scrap I refine or from various suppliers like KZOO Mint.

      Ideally, none. But there are minute traces of Cu, Ag, and platinum group metals. Pending on the source.

    Seems weird to me that some of the products online like jm bullion or other mint sites have bars and coins that say .999 fine gold but it’s not as bright of a yellow as when I see people like you pour it. Any idea why?

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  3 года назад +1

      One reason is probably the difference in lighting between the images. Light plays a big factor.
      Another could be the surface finish of the gold. Say... a mirrored finish vs a matted or buffed finish.

      @@LithicMetals I purchased a IGR gold bar from jm and the color looks slightly lighter then pure gold pours or even other brands, just gets me wondering if they using 22k or 23k gold, my first purchase of gold so I can’t make any assumptions, maybe they buffed it but it looks mirror to me

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  2 года назад

      You would know right away if there were impurities in the gold as soon as you melt it. Base metal oxides form and float at the surface. Pure Gold is very clean and the color very distinctive.

    • @LithicMetals

      I'm not too sure if the borax helps raise the temp, but I certainly use it to glaze the dish and knock back any oxides... especially with Ag.

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  3 года назад

      Someone asked the same thing a little bit ago... I told them it's not unlike asking why don't you paint your picture on the back side of your canvas, instead of marring up the perfect clean front side.
      I get ya... there are times when I hesitate marking up a bar, but this is where 90% of the beauty is... and my marks (at least to me) add to the beauty, and sort of lay claim to my work.
