@@cenoncapitulo5185 if the outlet is higher than the river it will not work! If the outlet is low enough, the whole “thing” can be substituted with a single tube, but you will have some difficulty to fill it with water.
It is NOT a pump it is a siphon with the barrel used as an air trap. The outlet discharge pipe has to be lower than the water level of the river. A simple siphon system with the barrel used as an air trap. If the intake sucks air in from a spiral vortex same as when the water runs out of the bath . A straight pipe would collect the air at the highest point and stop working The air will collect in the barrel and the outlet continue to run creating negative air pressure pulling water into the barrel intake pipe until the water level fails to cover the outlet pipe.

This uses siphon principle, where the water exit level should be lower than the inlet level, otherwise flow will stop. If for other procedure has been hidden from the camera, that is considered ur skill or shall we a trict.
From the video it appears that Outlet valve is at a lower level when compared to the river bank and intake is from a level much lower than the output valve.
There are many videos demonstrating drum pumps. The videos show fixing of drum, pipes etc. None of them shows how the holes are drilled in the drums and the flanges are fixed in the drums
I have only learned and experienced that water always flow from high level to low level, without external force or vacuum it can't flow lower level to higher level. I only want to know on which principle it flows fr lower level to higher level?

Is your sunction pipe does have a valve to allow the water only going up and close the valve if sunction stops.
No foot valve are needed here. The system only works if the output is lower than the river.

The partial vacuum into the barrel!!
A siphon does not work from a low to a high level. Forget abot the barrel, it is only a starting device in a syphon.
