Plastic-Eating Fungi and Other Wonders Discovered by Yale Undergraduates

As part of his Rainforest Expedition and Laboratory Course, Professor Strobel leads Yale undergraduates on two-week trips to the Amazon rainforest. There the students collect plant samples to use in isolating novel microorganisms during their summer lab research back in New Haven. In this lecture in celebration of the 2013 Yale Presidential Inauguration, Professor Strobel will describe his course as well as student discoveries such as a fungi that can eat plastic and organisms that can produce new antibiotics.
