  • We visited Taughannock Falls State Park - a first visit for both of us. We were NOT disappointed. The falls is the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains and is a 215 ft drop!!
There are several trails you can take and an overlook right off a parking lot so you can get many different views of the falls. Even with a fairly dry winter, the falls were glorious! If you're in the Ithaca area or staying somewhere on Cayuga Lake, make the trip to see them! The state park also has a boat launch, playground, beach, and tons of picnic tables!
The Gorge Trail is flat, wide, and easy to traverse. It's 3/4 of a mile each way with benches along the way. The upper rim trails also were flat but not as wide. The railroad bridge above and behind the main falls (where the hidden falls are located) is just a very short up hill from the parking lot.

I can't believe I'd never been before. It was so beautiful! I can't wait to go back and see the other two falls nearby (and to go to Purity Ice Cream in Ithaca).
