Tbh a good habit to get into is changing course when spotted by something you can't see. In this manner, when the heat (😏 HE joke, pun intended) becomes too much, you'll be able to stop shooting, disengage, and 'disappear'.
@@theycallme4799 I would argue that any BB shooting from max range is a useless POS. You have the best armor of any class, why are you sniping like that?

If you have a team that seems to know what it is doing, sure switch to AP. However it happens so often that Cruisers and Destroyers rush off, leaving the Battleship without an escort and then you better have some HP ready to take out the enemy destroyers because forget about targetting an enemy from a far, you'll need your guns to prevent being a torpedo sponge.
One tip Tbull didn’t mention is for the love of god Don’t use your damage control party on one fire, the only exception to this is if there’s multiple fires or your very low health. You’ll survive way longer by doing that.
Shrimp Dragon yes, don’t use damage control when there is only one fire on your ship. One fire won’t kill you but two fires will. You generally want to use repair party as often as you can. Each repair party charge has a maximum amount of health it can repair. Once you reach that limit, you should use it right away.
I usually put HE up as my first salvo in the game because the first Target I see Will usually be a steeply angled cruiser or sometimes a destroyer who got himself spotted. After that its AP all the way.
Sound advice, all. My own take on Tip 10. DON'T sail in straight lines. DON'T maintain a constant speed. In short, DON'T be predictable. If you're just motoring along and everything seems OK, kick in a couple of extra zigzags and speed changes - Just In Case. If you have PropMod installed (and why wouldn't you?), then briefly hit the brakes for a few seconds and then take off fast every now and then. I wish I had a Doubloon for every time I've done any of this, and then watched a Wall Of Steel blast through where I would otherwise have been only a minute later. If your BB gets into a knifefight with a smaller ship, keep up speed, keep hard-turning into them and just SHOOT with whatever you have loaded. The maneuvering makes torp hits much harder, and even AP will kill a small ship when you don't waste time trying to switch. I've reached a point where this kind of situation actually seems like a fair fight.
Yes, THIS. As a destroyer primary I can say this advice is vital, as it makes me miss torp salvos more than any other behavior. BUT, be careful not to fall into a pattern of "randomness". It will get picked up on after a couple misses and you'll get nailed.
Don't take yourself out of the game by going to the back or side of the map, or by chasing a single ship off to the periphery. Don't hide behind a rock and cry for support or intelligence data. Don't cluster up and park in a capture point like potatoes in a bowl. Move on! DO follow your destroyers in to push a cap with bow tanking in domination! Cap and move on. You do not have to personally ignite a $50 bill if you get hit in your battleship. Stop hiding, push the enemy with your bow and draw fire. Destroyers hate rushing battleships, often panic and beach themselves, and then get squished.
I would say don't go to the edge unless you really need to play defensive or you're trying to flank. Sailing on the edge of the map does guarentee that you can't be attack from the side your guns are not pointed at but the price is you can't reach half the map.
Be Admiral Thomas C. Kinkaid. I disagree with your "HE only bit". A very good situation to use HE is when you are strongly expected an upcoming destroyer encounter, especially if there is a high likelyhood of them trying to suicide rush you. HE is simply more guaranteed damage + module destruction against such a low armored ship like a destroyer. I frequently deal half or more of a destroyer's health in a single salvo with HE, the same can't be said for AP unless the shells travel the length of their bow, which is rare. Module damage is just a bonus. Additionally, some battleships like the Konig and Kaiser will have to spam HE to damage bow on battleships because they have too low caliber to bow-overmatch with AP. That being said, MOST of the time you're going to want to run AP, but this puts in new players head that HE should never be used which is just not true in my opinion.
As a 15000 game player my advice for BBs is to shoot AP 98% of the time for most battleships. My advice to brand new players until they figure the game out several thousand games into their career is to shoot AP 100% of the time. It's good advice , and I stand by it
