But, it's not for everyone. Sewing is harder than it seams ;)
Salty Crafty you should list 2 other pros: 1.) It is teaching a skill that is helpful for every human who wears clothes in order to repair a loose button, hem, or zipper. 2.) It has more gender neutral projects which increase the chances for males, who are not usually introduced to sewing (at least in US), an opportunity to learn a skill to improve their life their entire lifetime...
Hahah this was so funny! I actually sew for a living and now make plushie tutorials on my channel similar to these cuties and can’t help but feel people may be like this with some of my instructions 🙊🙊 I think I should definitely take it upon myself to slow down my tutorials!! I do my knots like in the book and the tie off also, I don’t even think about it now and never even thought to mention it before now 😂
Got a new subscriber! Simply because I´m interested in sewing and making plushies. I made an average sized octopus with a top hat for my SO recently. He loved it haha. Excited to see what you can teach me to become better. One question though, How durable are your creations usually? ( I usually handsew and I guess because sometimes my stitch is uneven it becomes undone at some points )
looks like it has plenty of felt included but that needle ! Bah humbug. Not surprised the eyes were demolished at first attempts - every time the needle went through it left a big hole in the felt!! But makers of kit prob had to provide a HUGE needle for safety reasons. Impressed by your first time making felt thingummys!!! Loving these salty reviews
The needles in the sewing kits are garbage. I get they can't use smaller needles in 'for kids' kits, because 'safety'. But when my kids and I got the tiny animals one, and this one, I'll just say I was SUPER happy that I do a lot of hand sewing, and have GOOD needles on hand. Having good needles makes a HUGE difference in how well the projects turn out, since the ones that come in the kit just kill the felt, especially the tiny cheeks and eyes, where good, smaller, sharp needles don't.
Embroidery needles have blunt ends and large eyes. Sewing needles are cheaper and can be bought at the corner 7 - 11 stores but require a threader because of the smaller eyes. If the larger needle holes in your felt bother you, then glue them on.
I have been sewing for 9 years and I'm an award winning competitive cosplayer. I taught myself hand sewing and then later how to use a sewing machine. My grandfather was a tailor in New York, so sewing is in the blood coursing through my veins. I wouldn't consider myself a sewing expert nor a professional, but I would say I'm experienced. With that being said, those instructions on how to tie a knot are not only confusing, they are unnecessary. I paused and read them multiple times and I still had no idea what the hell they are saying. Just tie a knot like a normal human being, don't make it difficult. Those instructions? *In da trash*
I got this kit for my birthday, I had a good time. The eyes stayed for me the only problem I had was the needles were blunt. After a while I did get the knot but it is easier to do a normal knot.
As a mum, I’m so happy to get a no-holds-barred review of kids kits. I’m getting the klutz sewing and clay kits for my 7yo (She already needle felts and sews felt plushes so the suggested age doesn’t quite apply) and NOT buying her a goddamn poopsie slime.
Same! I'm quiet good at sewing and hand stitching (I embroider) so the donut would have took me way less time to stitch as I would have used a blanket stitch to go faster and make it less bumpy But don't make me cut stuff, I can't go straight of follow lines to save my life cutting paper and felt is too hard for me, especially tiny eyes and cheeks
I have this kit and love it to death, I bought a second one to complete them all because I used some fabric for other projects but the first doughnut was very very very hard, but after that and a cookie I was able to do it in 30 minutes and before that I was able to do it in 1 hour. And now I can do it in 10 hours :) it just takes practice :((( hehhehe in 11 now and the kit reminded me that there is a technique called *Sowing* (im sorry about my spelling :> ) Ohh god That was my longest comment Hope this will get pinned Like it Yay

LOL!!! 😂 That knot is a sewist's knot or whatever it's called. It's literally my mom's favorite knot for sewing.😅 She tried to show me so many times how to do it but I always did it the way you did because it seemed easier. I finally noticed a tutorial by Lauren fairweather here on RUclips that explained it so well that It just clicked!!😂 Once you have it down its literally so fast and shaves like 6 seconds off your knotting time!😜 That's pretty useful when you're tying knots so often for hand sewing.👍 💓 Thanks for the review!!!
Well yeah. Just one regular knot will be too small and the thred will just go right trough the fabric. The sewknot makes "several" knots at the same time and makes it bigger. So Jackie, just make several knots on the same spot and it will work out just fine! :3
Victoria Woods MY mom tried showing me how to tie my shoes but I could NEVER do it than my friend showed me and I mastered it in 5 minutes soooooo... yeah
I'm getting this. I'm really good at sewing, and I think that this would be super fun to do! I acually really like this! Thanks for this review!! Edit: thank you so much for loving my comment!
I actually have this kit and have lost the instructions and I’ve also made lots of these treats, they turned out pretty good. If you are steady handed I do reccomend this! I do get some of the points that have been made but I really like this kit!
I have this kit and made a few of the felt plushies. I actually found it pretty fun and included everything you need. I loved the book, and would recommend the kit! Thanks for sharing 💜
The problem is that they made the needle bigger so kids can find it and not stab themselves. So there's a good intention, but I'd be salty about it too.
they made the needle too big so you would've had to stitch further apart to get the eye on that stitch was unfortunately too close together. RIP eye. press f to pay respects
I’m watching this after having this kit and LOVING it for a loooong time. I’ve made almost everything in the book and even got creative with all my little faces and such. It definitely requires a lot of patience and is time-consuming. But I actually enjoyed the process, having nothing else to do with my time anyway lol. Once you get past the initial learning curve, it becomes super easy. The worst part for me was the finishing knot. I could never get it to work right so I just hand tied my knots at the end lol.
That was a beginner instruction on how to tie a knot in sewing because that was the one taught to us in school and sometimes when the thread doesn't hold on it means that your knot should be bigger😄
She gave it 7 3/4 out of 10! How is that not liking it? Yes, she points out the cons, but her total score is pretty decent...almost an 8 out of 10, which in my book is an overall positive review. She’s called the Salty Crafter for a reason! But this is actually a positive review.
musi_mar it's because you get lots of cheap views form a certain demographic if you look like you're complaining, despite actually giving a score of almost 8/10.
I'm not great with dexterity regarding sewing needles so I cheat. I get a longer length of thread (double what I'll need) then pull it through the needle so it's equal. Then take both sides at the ends together, wrap around my finger and the rub them together. It can take a couple of goes, but it'll make a larger knot than a simple tied one PLUS you don't lose the thread out of the needle! Just make sure you start the thread on the underside/inside of the project and you're good to go. Best bit? If you have to leave you project for a bit, you can't lose the needle - it's attached! Don't listen to the "rules" about the back/inside having to be as neat as the front. Do whatever works to get the results you want. 😀
I do something similar to make a knot and it works with one thread or two. Just wrap the end of the thread around the tip of your fore finger several times then push the loops off with your thumb. Then while holding the twirled loops loosely between your thumb and forefinger pull the long thread so that the loops tighten into a knot. Easy.
Super easy way to make a knot in thread that anyone can do, even if they have sausage fingers: After threading needle take the ends of the thread and wrap them around the tip of your index finger a few times forming a circle. Push the circle of thread off your index finger with your thumb applying presure so that the thread between your finger and thumb twists as it comes off. Keep the twisted circle of thread between your index finger and thumb then pull while holding it firmly so that it forms a knot in the end of the thread. With a little practice this can be done one handed in one smooth motion where you pull the circle as you are pushing it off your index finger with your thumb so that the circle becomes smaller as you are twisting it and it becomes a knot by the time you let it go. This can be done using both ends of the thread or just one. This was much more complicated to explain than do, basically you are just tangling the ends of the thread while pulling it tight into a knot.
Reminds me of the felt pillow kits we did in Jr. High home ec classes. I have been sewing since around 5-6 with a little toy machine. But it was fun to watch a non sewer learn.
I recently recieved this kit as a Christmas present, and am here to see how the one and only SaltECrafter had to say. I am excited to try and will update on how it went x.
I got the plants and animals kits and loved them! I was fairly young at the time, but did not have any trouble understanding the instructions. I made a lot of animals as birthday presents that year. Although I mostly crochet now, I still use those kits when I want a quick gift!
Actual sewing floss and needles are super super cheap to buy (floss is like 80cents) and so is felt generally... tbh you could do all this for less than what the package costs.
Yes and for the name and packaging! But most of those you could probably copy or find similar DIY versions online too. And you could make twenty doughnuts since felt from the store is like nearly the size of paper haha
I love sewing and have made this kit. It is time-consuming but I had a lot of fun. They have since released two more Sew Mini kits, animals and gardens. I've made those as well.
That knot... And the tie off..... What??? I make plushies for a living I have never seen this knot lol Omgerd the wittle donut and pizza are adorable I like mushrooms, banana peppers, spinach, and beef :V
That's how I learned how to tie a knot for thread, it's the same technique in klutz's ribbon purse book. I love your videos and get a lot of inspiration from them, keep doing awesome stuff! :D
I got my daughter the other version of this kit about 4 years ago, the one with bacon eggs cookies n I cant remember what else, n she totally dug it, so did I. We sat down with each other n made lil cloth foods. It was a bonding experience. I love their kits.
I got this kit for Christmas and I was salty because the needle was so blunt, it couldn’t go through the felt. I had to go to the store and buy myself a proper needle. The needle in the video looks very different from what I got in my package.
The needles in the kits (I also have the sew tiny animals one, 2 copies) are garbage. I love the kits, and recommend them to people looking for something like this for their kids to do, or to do with their kids. But I also include that if they don't have good needles already, they'll want to buy some, and not even bother with the ones in the kits. Even the 'sharp' ones in the kits are too big to use with the felt, without it taking WAY more work than it needs to.
I noticed how big the needles were too. I'm wondering if they thought the large needle size would be easier for a child to handle. A really fine needle to start with would probably be frustrating.
Jan C. At 10 a decent size hand needle would be perfect, it's a long sturdy needle and a commonly used one for doing decorative stitches and all regular stitches. Plus it's not too thick so the knot wouldn't keep pulling through.
I just learned how to knot the thread like this. It took me two tries to get it, but it is so much easier to have a knot that will not slide out of the fabric.
*me an experienced sewer face palming about how hard the book made a starting knot seem.* Jackie was right, you can literally just fold the string in half and triple knot it around the needle! This for beginners? You dont need a starting knot!
Agreed its not a bad kit, and yes you also get the felt (Which I'm sure you could get at Dollarama for super cheap) but I dunno if its really worth $25... Maybe if I had a little extra funds laying around I might pick it up. I've always wanted to do felt food and sell them on Etsy.
Bah. Notifications turned on... didn’t pop up until an hour later. WTF RUclips, WTF??? Pizza is best with ham and pineapple 😁 Donuts are apparently best with scowls 😂
The way I learned to make a starting knot was to wrap it around my finger then slide it off with my thumb, then pull. It works a lot easier. And I love this kit use it all the time. I did them all in order and I’m on the last one. The stuffing did last for the whole kit and I still have half a bag of it.
Jackie! A good tip to keep the string from falling out of the needle head: double tread! Move the needle to the middle of the thread and tie the two ends together into a knot. As for the tutorial for the knot itself.... I only use that for the end of the stitch area. It's a bit difficult to get down, but it's really study.
They are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You be sure to not let go of the thread until the knot is snug to the fabric and the floss is almost all the way through. Also, be sure not to go back in from the same hole you came out It's easier to practice on taunt fabric, try them a cloth in a frame and they will get perfect in no time
The French Knot they have you doing is one of the more advanced knots. And to keep stitches from popping, especially under dense pressure of over filled stuffing, they should have had you double stitch.
I can sew, and I got this kit for my birthday, and honestly one of the main pros I would list is that its changed how I tie a starting knot 🤣 its so much easier and faster to tie a quick knot using the method in this book, totally changed my sewing game! Lol! I wonder if having a bit more familiarity with it makes it simpler? But honestly I'd never used this method before and I loved it (and have taught it to other people since).

Era Crow Yes!! I use that size needle to weave yarn ends in to my crochet and knitting projects.

Your salty reviews are honestly my favorite part of your channel, probably because I'm salty as well.
The sewing technique they're trying to get you to do to knot the thread is called a French knot. It's pretty satisfying to do one you get it done
French knots are also thicker so it probably wouldn't have gone through the eye
As A not very coordinated human being. I feel like i would be happy that they had pre-cut cheeks and eyes. 😂😂

The reason the sewing was hard with the eyes is that needle is way too big.
The problem is that they made the needle bigger so kids can find it and not stab themselves. So there's a good intention, but I'd be salty about it too.

So it’s safe to say this is a DONUT buy? Eh? Eh? Get it? ....I’ll see myself out
Lol omg you guys and puns! Ily all for this!
EH? I'm kidding lol
I recently recieved this kit as a Christmas present, and am here to see how the one and only SaltECrafter had to say. I am excited to try and will update on how it went x.
I Donut know if its worth it, But its Knot okay to make me think
Fallingstar 99, I want to like this comment, but it has 69 likes!
I liked it to make it 70
I love that you are trying new crafts!
I love trying new things! Buy sewing has always been the bane of my existence 😂😂😂
I got the plants and animals kits and loved them! I was fairly young at the time, but did not have any trouble understanding the instructions. I made a lot of animals as birthday presents that year. Although I mostly crochet now, I still use those kits when I want a quick gift!
Yassss, go off, sis. I'm so ready for this.
My favorite pizza consists of just cheese, man. I'm easy.
Actual sewing floss and needles are super super cheap to buy (floss is like 80cents) and so is felt generally... tbh you could do all this for less than what the package costs.
remainingembers Definitely but you're also paying for the patterns/ book that can be reused multiple times.
Yes and for the name and packaging! But most of those you could probably copy or find similar DIY versions online too. And you could make twenty doughnuts since felt from the store is like nearly the size of paper haha
My favorite pizza? Just cheese, it's SALTIER that way.
(In all seriousness, I do love plain ol' cheese pizza)
Me too
Pepper or cheese for me
Wow+
That was SEW unexpected.
Katherinelover 256 hahaha
Katherinelover 256 i see what you did there ! 😂
I did that pun..
Katherinelover 256 i died of laughter
I love these reviews, they're both amusing but also actually useful. By the way, the pizza and doughnut looked very cute with their little frowns.
I love sewing and have made this kit. It is time-consuming but I had a lot of fun. They have since released two more Sew Mini kits, animals and gardens. I've made those as well.
That knot... And the tie off..... What??? I make plushies for a living I have never seen this knot lol
Omgerd the wittle donut and pizza are adorable
I like mushrooms, banana peppers, spinach, and beef :V
Review the Klutz Clay charms kit
That's how I learned how to tie a knot for thread, it's the same technique in klutz's ribbon purse book. I love your videos and get a lot of inspiration from them, keep doing awesome stuff! :D
I wanted to buy this as a kid.....
NOT ANYMORE
I think........
kenzy Hatem Noo! It's a really good kit! I love it! I really don't see why she doesn't enjoy it as much. :)
You are still a kid...
I bought it and I really liked it
🙃
You should not listen to this dump coco head craft she's just selfish and jelous because she can't even make her ownn box herself
You were worried cause you got two, I would've been like "Woooo! More 4 me!"
I got my daughter the other version of this kit about 4 years ago, the one with bacon eggs cookies n I cant remember what else, n she totally dug it, so did I. We sat down with each other n made lil cloth foods. It was a bonding experience. I love their kits.
crafter is saltE, the craft is saltE, i am here for it. salt ala mode
PLEASEEEEE PLEASE MAKE A CHANNEL FOR SALTECRAFTER ONLY BC I LOVE THIS VIDEOS lol
As an avid cross stitcher I think you did pretty great with the back stitching.
Even the 'sharp' ones in the kits are too big to use with the felt, without it taking WAY more work than it needs to.
songdancer13 I know right?!?! They couldn’t even penetrate the felt!
I don't care what ppl say.. I love pineapple on my pizza lol
shalomjean3 same here
That's my favourite too :)
The pizza really is the cutest little thing, awww! Nice job, you did great.
I am a plush maker and the needles they gave are way too big and the knot method is terrible!
I noticed how big the needles were too. I'm wondering if they thought the large needle size would be easier for a child to handle. A really fine needle to start with would probably be frustrating.
Jan C. I agree the bigger needles are easier and they don’t break as easy. That’s my opinion
Jan C. At 10 a decent size hand needle would be perfect, it's a long sturdy needle and a commonly used one for doing decorative stitches and all regular stitches. Plus it's not too thick so the knot wouldn't keep pulling through.
bella Salas how did you BREAK your needles?
Can you try the “Kultz Clay Charms” ? Thank you 😊
I love your videos ^^
IcyFlames07 I have the kultz clay charms i is so so fun to play with!!
I'd totally wanna buy this kit for the patterns. Though, i dunno if i'd wanna spend $25 for a book and pattern sheets
The patterns are super helpful though! It got a 7 3/4. So it's not a bad kit
Just check online. I'm sure that there are free patterns online. Just print them on cardstock and they should work.
Hello! Can you try the new Sew Mini Gardens kit? I’m wondering if they had changed anything to improve the kit
There are so many easier ways to tie knots...DID NO ONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?
Bah. Notifications turned on... didn’t pop up until an hour later. WTF RUclips, WTF???
Pizza is best with ham and pineapple 😁 Donuts are apparently best with scowls 😂
😂😂
Hawaiian pizza is awesome mmmmmmm
Heather Winberg| One time I had a notification that arrived a day later.
4:10 I had this kit and I also did not understand either because I had never sewn before so I tied a regular knot lol
The way I learned to make a starting knot was to wrap it around my finger then slide it off with my thumb, then pull. It works a lot easier. And I love this kit use it all the time. I did them all in order and I’m on the last one. The stuffing did last for the whole kit and I still have half a bag of it.
Ham and pineapple, but pick the pineapple off and give it to my brother bc I don’t like the texture 😂. The good flavor is still there 🤷🏼♀️
These are so cute! I'm getting this. I've loved the other Klutz kits I've tried
#NerdEFicationSquad YAAAS! Bring on the Salty Fries 🍟! And I love pepperoni on my pizza
When you said”.get a some water or some chocolate to fight the salt” I had a pack of ready
SaLtEd crisps! Lol
Jackie! A good tip to keep the string from falling out of the needle head: double tread! Move the needle to the middle of the thread and tie the two ends together into a knot.
As for the tutorial for the knot itself.... I only use that for the end of the stitch area. It's a bit difficult to get down, but it's really study.

You did better than I would do! That for sure!
My favorite pizza toppings? Bacon and pineapple.
Come at me.
Yay pizza buds!
Bacon and pineapple is THE best combo!! 😄😍
I love this combo ❤️🍕🍕
I know your sewing pain Jackie!
They are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You be sure to not let go of the thread until the knot is snug to the fabric and the floss is almost all the way through. Also, be sure not to go back in from the same hole you came out
It's easier to practice on taunt fabric, try them a cloth in a frame and they will get perfect in no time
Still having trouble with the blanket stitch.
lol i have this kit and it made me fall in love with felt! years later and i'm still making and selling plushies :)
You forgot the money factor like buy yourself of what’s in box
It's harder to do when the kit includes a whole book and patterns unfortunately
NerdECrafter it’s okay :)
Your videos are ultra salty! I luv it!#NerdEFication
As someone who sees this was almost painful to watch.
Love you Jackie! I'm so proud of you for sticking with it!
SaltE doughnut and pizza! Rawr!
“well your salty too”
“Actually yes I am.And I love it.”
i love sewing. you did really well! I don't know that not I just do the same knot as you
I bot this so long ago. I managed to make a bacon with a moustache xD
Woah so early.... 😂 I feel out of my comfort zone
The French Knot they have you doing is one of the more advanced knots. And to keep stitches from popping, especially under dense pressure of over filled stuffing, they should have had you double stitch.
Her: Make sure to bring a glass of water.
Me: Nah I love the salt
*Grabs saltines*
I DIDNT EVEN READ THE CAPTION I JUST LOVE YOU
I can sew, and I got this kit for my birthday, and honestly one of the main pros I would list is that its changed how I tie a starting knot 🤣 its so much easier and faster to tie a quick knot using the method in this book, totally changed my sewing game! Lol! I wonder if having a bit more familiarity with it makes it simpler? But honestly I'd never used this method before and I loved it (and have taught it to other people since).
