I did own Bob Eubanks book It's In the Book Bob, and I read his reaction to the new format with Gary Kroeger. After one season with Gary Kroeger, the producers called Bob out of the blue and admitted that they fucked up with the first season, they asked him to host after that. Bob said instantly, "Get out your checkbook." Not only did Bob return on the next season, he was also given Executive Consultant credit for the next two seasons after that, AND they reverted back to the original format of The Newlywed Game, which was the right thing to do. I even heard fans of the original version of The Newlywed Game hated this format too, so there were at least two reasons why they reverted back to the original. The moral of the story is...do NOT MESS with the original!!!!!
I just realized I never watched tv through my 20’s! I never saw this or friends. 🤣 seriously, though, we went out every night after work. We also cooked for friends and hung out. Tv was not a big thing. Now, I’m 51 😯 and I don’t have cable or have any tv’s connected. Don’t miss it at all.
This is from the week of Jan 6-10, 1997, as the LA Coliseum Supercross was Jan 11 and Jan 18, 1997. It could be a rerun of a Fall 1996 episode, as this version of Newlywed aired in the 1996-97 season. This version got renewed for two more seasons with Bob Eubanks hosting and a more "classic" Newlywed format
I liked the music when they brought the couples out,BUT THEY SHOULD Have the men introduced, then the women.Bob Eubanks is the king of The Newlywed Game,however,Paul Rodriguez,Jim Lange and of course, Gary Kroeger are fantastic hosts of said show.
Personally, I didn't mind this version, but I felt as if Gary Kroeger wasn't too comfortable with the show, but he did host The All New Beat the Clock and he felt more comfortable on that show Even though The Newlywed Game returned to its old format with Bob Eubanks for the next 2 years, there was one main problem with the 90's Versions of The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game Too much competition from Talk Shows like Oprah, Ricki Lake, Rosie O'Donnell and Tabloid Talk Shows Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones, Newsmagazines like Inside Edition, Hard Copy and Real TV and Court Shows like Judge Judy, The Return of The Peoples Court and Judge Joe Brown and of course, syndication's 1-2 Punch in JEOPARDY! and Wheel of Fortune which are currently at SONY Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA also, I felt as if in the 90's, The Newlywed Game along with The Dating Game were a thing of the past and most of all, not enough stations picked up The Dating Game and Newlywed Game or probably put it on late at night or early in the morning
Part of the charm of the show is playing along with your spouse. A whole part of that you can't even do. Sure, there's more questions, but some of it is just awful.
I was on this season and can confirm it was terrible. Been looking everywhere for the episode to show our kids but this season doesn’t seem to be running anywhere.

I remember that too. Gary did a good job though. It’s very hard to reboot classic game shows.

This is a horrible version I can see why they rebooted it with Bob Eubanks
Bob himself was NOT a fan of this version. EVEN the fans of the original Newlywed Game HATED this format.
