Sad part, it is not just the music industry but the whole system who picks and chooses not based on talent but obedience who gets ahead and who is the next big thing. I find it awesome that The Brave came in at #4 when going up against a 97 Billion Dollar Company. However, it shows how corrupt and convoluted the Music Industry is. I was on the fence about this dude, but he has won me over. He stands for what "We the people" should stand for. Life is rigged, this country is in tatters, and the system is vulnerable, if we could stop arguing amongst each other and focus on the real enemy. The government counts on us being distracted and is scared to death of the thought of the people united.
I've loved Tom since I first heard him, my few friends loved him so I got really into him too. But actually hearing him talk, seeing that he's just as smart in life as he is in his songs, I'm 100% on the Tom side now, not for music only. But as a person as well. I barely like anyone, so that's a huge compliment from me.
Ironically there's a line in A Bugs Life that high lights that very thing but allot of people don't seem to get. I have not been a fan of rap since the Sugar Hill gang in the eighties. I'm rapidly approaching my sixties, However I came across a short by Tom and was hooked due to his lyrics. The one that hit me the most was the system. I've learned about it 20 years ago and been fighting against it since then. I appreciate his work Immensely. I wish him the best and in my opinion, as an independent he is freaking awesome. Tom if you read this I offer you many many blessings and well wishes and great more success. Facts . I've been a producer and mixing engineer for 18 years professionally (I work mostly with regional and independent artists but I've done plenty of major label work ) These are known barriers that in the past only have been over come by money or a familiar name and in the rarest of occasions hard work until the one of the first two happens. Its great to see a fully independent artist crushing it. Take The Music Back!

I respect that Tom isn't making a big deal out of the fact that to cooperate with Billboard, he got rid of "packaged" deals on his site. Like you used to be able to buy the CD packaged with a shirt and other stuff, he's done that every CD release and I'm sure it brings in decent revenue. With this album he had to remove that so as to help the "data collection agency" count the album sales. He lost out on cash doing that, and he's not even really complaining about it and that's legit. Don't see anyone commenting on it either so yeah.

Bro as a 50 year old Heavy Metal/ Death Metal vocalist I learned just how crooked and shitty the music industry truly is. I went through it in the 90's and I learned very quickly how to stay away from them and their money grabbing hands. Well Done !!! & I hope your success continues !!!
When I lived in Colorado, a local metal band Allegeaon gained traction (rightly so, Accelerated Evolution is one of the best prog metal songs second only to Persephone's The Majestic of Gaia), got signed to Metal Blade. Found them when MySpace was still big (I believe the CIA/NSA secretly bought out Tom to ruin MySpace to implement Facebook [U.S. Govt funded creation of]. They had to ask for donations, when their touring van broke down. The label was no help.
I was so excited for them signing{edit} with Metal Blade. I know now they were signed to be stifled and silenced. Global-Corpos tells society what society thinks they like.

Can't lie to you Tom. I'm independent as well and it's extremely tough and everything honestly relies on how much money and time you can put into your work and passion (music). I've almost given up a few times on being independent and almost signed before but I always ended up refusing to give in to the music industry giants for the simple fact that I don't want someone else to eat fat or have any credit/claim off of my hard work. So, I get why you feel this way and I am proud and amazed at where you guys got but completely understand why it's still not a satisfying accomplishment. Keep up the grind and I will to. You sign today and it's an automatic 360 deal meaning they get a piece of EVERYTHING you sell. Merch, albums, social media, tv, movies. If a dude loans you a quarter for a parking meter they want a cut of it, and they'll get it. They got a cut of all of my session player work. I go record for other people, but the labels got a cut of it. Fuck off with that. Keep in mind what they really want is your intellectual property so their guaranteed money makers have more songs to choose from. Anything you put out before signing, they want it. They can legally shelf you to stop competition from their other acts. I was wrapped up in this for a long, long time. You stay independent you keep 100% of everything you sell, so you can sell far fewer units but make much, much more.

Hey Tom! You’re awesome & that’s coming from a 71 year old woman who plays classical music & has been writing columns, stories & books since I was about 8. In2006 I lost my fabulous career as a Trauma RN due to a terrible situation where a 1st year surgical resident got involved in a simple biopsy of two lymph nodes in the front of my neck. My idiot surgeon allowed the student to “take over” & the untrained moron severed four critical nerves in my neck, resulting in instantaneous paralysis of my upper back muscles. Suffice it to say, it was a long road to recovery. But I’m a bulldog & had been a serious athlete since age 6, so I fought back with everything I had. But even though my body was severely disabled, my very keen mind was searching for a new career. So, I began writing songs, poems & finally wrote my first great medical mystery, “The Tenth,” which garnered 99% 5 stars on Amazon. But, like you, my spouse bankrolled the professional editing, artwork & layouts, which is very expensive & laborious. The work is pro-life, Christian undertones, & morally righteous. It’s also about being more than the sum of our parts & always doing the right thing (ripple effect). It garnered Katie Pavlich’s attention & I was invited to become a columnist for Townhall.com, then Breitbart, BuzzPo, & many foreign online publications. That got me invitations to speak at the Western Conservative Conference, CPAC (had to decline) & numerous other events. During those conferences I’d sell & sign my books & sold hundreds at a time. & those readers would leave me great reviews on Amazon. But then Amazon stopped allowing comments from buyers who hadn’t purchased the book through Amazon. So my private buyers could no longer leave stars or reviews. And that all happened within the first 12 months. So it basically appeared that I wasn’t selling anything. Obviously that severely damaged my sales & then, without my knowledge, they stopped producing my book in paperback & now only offer it in a Kindle version. They offered zero reasons for dropping the paperback, except that sales from their platform weren’t sufficient, even though I had receipts for a few thousand books sold by me. The system is totally rigged, as you so aptly described. & no agent or mainstream publisher will work with me due to the undertones of faith & sanctity of all life. & even worse…no Christian publisher (most are corrupt) would take it because there are a few swear words & some heartfelt & passionate love situations (handled with great modesty). But those real life situations apparently weren’t acceptable to Christian publishers, even though the majority of the book is based on factual events when I worked in Trauma. So, my good friend, you are not alone. But I’m launching a RUclips channel & will be doing “shorts” & longs about the myriad of evil topics our world is bombarded by, daily. The music industry has always been baffling. When I was a kid, bands strived for that record deal. Going gold (platinum) was the dream. But you could literally see the compromise on that 'platinum' label backed album from who they were before. They went from badass to blasé in one album.
Absolutely! I don't hate them for it tho. Many of those bands told their story later about how they were fools and that "deal" was a chain, or how it immediately put them in debt and basically "slaved" to that label unless they went to court. It used to be featured in Rolling Stone, but now they're the industry puppet rag. The ones that came later, that had heard or read the bad stories... they knew what they were doing and did the deal anyway.

Started playing live in 1991 up to 2008, I left after in 2006 at the San Diego Music Awards, my band won best Independent produced Rock & Roll Album. Then in 2008 we won Best Rock & Roll Band. Young man, you make me so proud. Ive been looking for a ray of hope ever since Napster lit the match that burned down the music industry. What was left of the fat cats made horrible deals with the online services just to get in bed with the movers and shakers of whatever would be next. The artists were left with less than crumbs for online plays of songs. This is the revolution I've been predicting for 20 years. I'm glad you showed up before I leave this rock. PS I worked for s short stint in Beverly Hills for Virgin Records and got the education I never wanted. I was there when they announced that Hair Metal was over. And trust me, it was. Took less than 6 months. Started that very week. All the Hair Metal bands that were new on major labels were gone. Poof. Then the big ones started losing their deals. Then the whole thing became a joke for 10 years. All the labels were in agreement. Metal was too expensive and the slaves were demanding too much. So it was done. Lose them from your rosters. I asked that dude who gave the news after the meeting; "What about Asphalt Ballet, they were just signed as a top 5 concern?" and he replied; "I'm in charge of distribution. If I dont send the records then the stores cant stock the albums and their record tanks because the sales wont reflect the demand. Easy." And that's why I came back to Pittsburgh and wrote that sh*t off.

I was on the fence about this dude, but he has won me over. He stands for what "We the people" should stand for. I have not been a fan of rap since the Sugar Hill gang in the eighties. I'm rapidly approaching my sixties, However I came across a short by Tom and was hooked due to his lyrics. The one that hit me the most was the system. I've learned about it 20 years ago and been fighting against it since then. I appreciate his work Immensely. I've been a producer and mixing engineer for 18 years professionally (I work mostly with regional and independent artists but I've done plenty of major label work ) These are known barriers that in the past only have been over come by money or a familiar name and in the rarest of occasions hard work until the one of the first two happens. I respect that Tom isn't making a big deal out of the fact that to cooperate with Billboard, he got rid of "packaged" deals on his site. Like you used to be able to buy the CD packaged with a shirt and other stuff, he's done that every CD release and I'm sure it brings in decent revenue. With this album he had to remove that so as to help the "data collection agency" count the album sales.
He lost out on cash doing that, and he's not even really complaining about it and that's legit. Don't see anyone commenting on it either so yeah.

Bro as a 50 year old Heavy Metal/ Death Metal vocalist I learned just how crooked and shitty the music industry truly is. I went through it in the 90's and I learned very quickly how to stay away from them and their money grabbing hands. Well Done !!! & I hope your success continues !!!
When I lived in Colorado, a local metal band Allegeaon gained traction (rightly so, Accelerated Evolution is one of the best prog metal songs second only to Persephone's The Majestic of Gaia), got signed to Metal Blade. Found them when MySpace was still big (I believe the CIA/NSA secretly bought out Tom to ruin MySpace to implement Facebook [U.S. Govt funded creation of].
They had to ask for donations, when their touring van broke down. The label was no help.
I was so excited for them signing{edit} with Metal Blade.
I know now they were signed to be stifled and silenced.

So, I get why you feel this way and I am proud and amazed at where you guys got but completely understand why it's still not a satisfying accomplishment. Keep up the grind and I will to. You sign today and it's an automatic 360 deal meaning they get a piece of EVERYTHING you sell. Merch, albums, social media, tv, movies. If a dude loans you a quarter for a parking meter they want a cut of it, and they'll get it. They got a cut of all of my session player work. I go record for other people, but the labels got a cut of it. Fuck off with that. Keep in mind what they really want is your intellectual property so their guaranteed money makers have more songs to choose from. Anything you put out before signing, they want it. They can legally shelf you to stop competition from their other acts. I was wrapped up in this for a long, long time. You stay independent you keep 100% of everything you sell, so you can sell far fewer units but make much, much more.

Hey Tom! You’re awesome & that’s coming from a 71 year old woman who plays classical music & has been writing columns, stories & books since I was about 8. In2006 I lost my fabulous career as a Trauma RN due to a terrible situation where a 1st year surgical resident got involved in a simple biopsy of two lymph nodes in the front of my neck. My idiot surgeon allowed the student to “take over” & the untrained moron severed four critical nerves in my neck, resulting in instantaneous paralysis of my upper back muscles. Suffice it to say, it was a long road to recovery. But I’m a bulldog & had been a serious athlete since age 6, so I fought back with everything I had.
But even though my body was severely disabled, my very keen mind was searching for a new career. So, I began writing songs, poems & finally wrote my first great medical mystery, “The Tenth,” which garnered 99% 5 stars on Amazon. But, like you, my spouse bankrolled the professional editing, artwork & layouts, which is very expensive & laborious. The work is pro-life, Christian undertones, & morally righteous. It’s also about being more than the sum of our parts & always doing the right thing (ripple effect).
It garnered Katie Pavlich’s attention & I was invited to become a columnist for Townhall.com, then Breitbart, BuzzPo, & many foreign online publications. That got me invitations to speak at the Western Conservative Conference, CPAC (had to decline) & numerous other events. During those conferences I’d sell & sign my books & sold hundreds at a time. & those readers would leave me great reviews on Amazon.
But then Amazon stopped allowing comments from buyers who hadn’t purchased the book through Amazon. So my private buyers could no longer leave stars or reviews. And that all happened within the first 12 months. So it basically appeared that I wasn’t selling anything. Obviously that severely damaged my sales & then, without my knowledge, they stopped producing my book in paperback & now only offer it in a Kindle version.
They offered zero reasons for dropping the paperback, except that sales from their platform weren’t sufficient, even though I had receipts for a few thousand books sold by me.
The system is totally rigged, as you so aptly described. & no agent or mainstream publisher will work with me due to the undertones of faith & sanctity of all life. & even worse…no Christian publisher (most are corrupt) would take it because there are a few swear words & some heartfelt & passionate love situations (handled with great modesty). But those real life situations apparently weren’t acceptable to Christian publishers, even though the majority of the book is based on factual events when I worked in Trauma.
So, my good friend, you are not alone.
But I’m launching a RUclips channel & will be doing “shorts” & longs about the myriad of evil topics our world is bombarded by, daily.

The music industry has always been baffling. When I was a kid, bands strived for that record deal. Going gold (platinum) was the dream. But you could literally see the compromise on that 'platinum' label backed album from who they were before. They went from badass to blasé in one album.
Absolutely! I don't hate them for it tho. Many of those bands told their story later about how they were fools and that "deal" was a chain, or how it immediately put them in debt and basically "slaved" to that label unless they went to court. It used to be featured in Rolling Stone, but now they're the industry puppet rag. The ones that came later, that had heard or read the bad stories... they knew what they were doing and did the deal anyway.

The artists were left with less than crumbs for online plays of songs.

I worked for s short stint in Beverly Hills for Virgin Records and got the education I never wanted.
I was there when they announced that Hair Metal was over. And trust me, it was. Took less than 6 months. Started that very week. All the Hair Metal bands that were new on major labels were gone. Poof. Then the big ones started losing their deals. Then the whole thing became a joke for 10 years.
All the labels were in agreement. Metal was too expensive and the slaves were demanding too much. So it was done. Lose them from your rosters.
I asked that dude who gave the news after the meeting; "What about Asphalt Ballet, they were just signed as a top 5 concern?" and he replied; "I'm in charge of distribution. If I dont send the records then the stores cant stock the albums and their record tanks because the sales wont reflect the demand. Easy."
And that's why I came back to Pittsburgh and wrote that sh*t off.
