    What about people driving without headlights at night.

    • @theepicturban
      @theepicturban 8 лет назад +95

      I'll be honest I did that once or twice, but because my stupid car doesn't have automatic headlights. Honestly in 2016 they should be standard, there's no reason to not have them since they don't affect performance and the safety benefits outweigh the cost-savings for the manufacturer. (it should be a law to have them nowadays)

    • @DonQuixotec
      @DonQuixotec 8 лет назад +28

      I did for a year. In Norway it's illegal to drive a tractor on class A and B motorway, but some places there are tractors driving there cause it's a shortcut, but it makes a huge queue. One day, I was driving 5 cars behind one that did this, and the stupid asshole tractor driver drove with his shuffle far up, and it crashed into the roof of a tunnel.
      His punishment: Driver license suspended, and had to pay about 75000 kr (about £7500) in damage, plus a 7000 kr fine from the police. Even though I had to sit in queue for an hour, I was smiling sooo much after I read he had to pay all this in the newspaper :D

      Car drivers need a licence because cars are dangerous, pedestrians and bicycle riders are there by right. You pay insurance in case you damage someone/something, and pay road fund licence because cars pollute. Yes some twits with a death wish out there walking in front of cars, but they are less likely to maim/ kill others, like say distracted drivers do.

      One thing I love about Tesla cars is the fact that you don't have to wait to cross the road if you see one, just step out in front of it and hey presto the car's computer kicks in and makes it stop for you, completely overriding the driver's ability to do anything about it.

      Only if a driver hit me while I was crossing a zebra crossing or traffic lights would I press charges! I think that's reasonable.

  • @googlesuckscock6538
    @googlesuckscock6538 5 лет назад +75

    Agree with everything here, but I’ve been cycling all my life and let me tell you the reason why sometimes folks like me will go into the middle of the lane. The clip you showed is a good example - had that cyclist been on the left, would you overtake them? If your answer is yes, I hope I never meet you on the road, because that is not enough space to overtake a cyclist. Being on two wheels and all means we’re a little bit more unstable, and our tyres are smaller. Because of this we don’t like potholes and sometimes would rather not cycle straight through them for the sake of not being hit by a car.
    Highway Code recommends you leave a cars width of space when overtaking a cyclist.
    Now, imagine you’re a cyclist on a narrow lane. You hear some driver behind you slowing down and revving their engine a little. It’s about 100 meters to a junction where the road you’ll be turning on to is wider (and they can overtake) so, what is the most reasonable thing to do? If you stay in the left and the driver is agressive or ill tempered enough they could attempt an overtake, putting your life in danger. So many cyclists will opt to cycle a little further into the road to secure their safety.
    I’m sorry if it’s annoying for you if you have to wait an extra 30 seconds, but I’d rather not die thanks. And I say this as a driver as well. The disrespect some drivers have for life is astounding.

    The worse thing I've seen/experienced was when I was going away in a caravan on holiday and a women who was completely oblivious to anything around her was driving parallel to our car, then literally pulled all the way across 2 lanes on the motorway without indicating, or even checking that there was a car there (p.s my dads got a white 5-series touring and a massive white caravan on the back), so a heavy right foot was needed on the brake, he beeped his horn behind her and then beside and she didn't even flinch it was like nothing had happened, honest to god I've seen stoned people with more awareness than her.

  • @keycapslapper7080

    Cyclists will take the lane in a number of situations:
    1) To avoid the door area of parked cars, which occasionally show up parked in the cycle lane
    2) When approaching junctions
    3) To show you do not want to be overtaken when the road is too narrow
    4) To avoid potholes / grates / uneven surfaces
    Contrary to what many might believe, most cyclists do not have a death wish. I can't speak for all of them but for the most part we don't take the lane to spite you. #1 priority on the road is safety and I will never sacrifice my own so someone behind me can get ahead. Riding over to the left is a courtesy to other road users, not an entitlement.

      Most things in this video about cyclists is legal in the USA. Helmet laws vary, but are not required in some areas.
      Everything he says about cyclist behavior is why I hate riding legally in the road; drivers have no spatial awareness, are unpredictable and break traffic laws constantly (speeding, failure to signal, improper lane usage, honking in non emergency, coming to a stop to let passengers out/check the map etc...)

    • @GeneralLiuofBoston1911
      @GeneralLiuofBoston1911 2 года назад +6

      @@kostondub Yeah. Drivers give cyclists so much hate about how they pedal, but in reality, that's them trying not to die when we are behind the wheel. Following traffic laws feels different exposed on two wheels than in a mini tank like a pickup truck.

    • @Kingsoupturbo
      @Kingsoupturbo 8 лет назад +1

      Thats how it is, pretty rare occasion that I have to go into the lane. Problem is that you get militant cyclists who become said way because of angry drivers, and angry drivers who are mad at cyclists. I can only imagine in a place like London where there are tons of cyclists and tons of traffic what its like. I also have 5 cars and trucks, the key to understanding cyclists is to try it out yourself, let all your road rage disappear and understand why so many people do it. I always hear guys in cars bitching about people on bikes who don't obey traffic laws, I think its Pure envy watching bikes get past snarled traffic. What good is a civic with 8 exhaust and 4 wings if you're always stuck in traffic? not much good.

    True story, but about a month ago I was driving to university on a two way road at about 40 mph, and out of no where some jackass cyclist from the right of me, cut through both lanes without even signalling. I literally almost hit the guy and I had to swerve off the road just so I wouldn't hit him. He also didn't have a helmet on, so if I did hit him going at my speed, I would of most likely killed him.

      Things I dislike about my everyday cycling, being held up wherever I go with cars parked all over the carriageway queuing to go anywhere..... then when the traffic clears a lot of drivers bust a gut to overtake only to get stuck in another batch of traffic 30s later.....

    Maybe it's different in the UK but here in the US drivers are trained not to do "jackrabbit starts" from traffic lights. Mostly because of the red light running problem and the inevitable hangers on from the last cycle of the traffic lights that haven't cleared the intersection yet. Forget the light, watch what traffic is doing.

    The absolute worst is when someone pulls out in front of you, then proceeds to drive slow, then gets surprised when you approach your bumper, so then you have to slow down to 25mph to get off their ass, when they are the one that pulled in front of you.

    0:40 that's due to the traffic conundrum. Distance between cars is too short, and since it takes about a second of reaction time to take off, add that up and for every car in front of you you lose at least 1 second before it starts moving. AKA traffic snake. If everyone always maintained the same distance from front and back, then there would be no such problem.

    I was going to Sydney one time and I was on some back roads, and I encountered a cyclist. I was stopped at traffic lights and I saw him, he had his wheel turned resting on my rear bumper. Ok. I was angry but not too much I can do, so next traffic lights he leans on the roof of my fucking nicely polished car, so I inch forwards to let him know that is not ok. I stop, he rests there again. I wind down the window and ask him to keep his bike and body off my car please (you know how those assholes get angry with cars if they're in their personal space..) and he says 'oh I have clip on pedals, I can't put my feet down' so I told him he had a defective and dangerous bicycle and it shouldn't be on the road. He called me a cu#t and cycled forward to hold onto a bit of fence. That made me angry. But as I pressed my pedal down to awaken the gods of anger in my 1JZ and have their hot lava go flowing through my turbos and I jetted away leaving Cyclist McStretchypants waaaaay behind, and I sunk down into my cushy velour seat and comfortable air con, it was obvious I was much further up the food chain and one day I would feast on his entrails. Fuck cyclists. And don't touch my car.

I ditched the car pretty much and only go to work by bike and if i go to the gym, grocerie store and so on i cycle. I observed a HUGE lack of awarness on everyday cyclists. People like us are constantly looking for hazards and as we have made the experience with ignorant cyclists also know where the car drivers are looking and how they will behave, because were drivers ourselfes. The so called „trackies“ that cycle daily have their head pretty much fixed dead ahead, their eyes completely lack motorics and most of them just ice cold ignore red lights. This is why i think cycling on the ROAD should require a form of license, like cars and bikes demand it aswell.

    Not sure how it is in your area, but in the US (Florida at least), cyclists are to be treated the same way as motor vehicles and are allowed to ride in the middle if needed, provided they keep up with traffic. Some may choose to ride in the middle because bike lanes are sometimes unsafe, lanes too narrow (if you can reach out to a car and touch it, that car is too close) or simply the fear of getting doored by cars parked on the right.

    Riding in the middle of the lane makes you more visible and less likely to be hit by an inattentive driver. In many places it's not safe to pass a cyclist, so they take the full lane to ensure you don't sideswipe them or smack into someone opening their door.

      Meh, if the government actually spent money more money to give decent infrastructure for both cyclists and drivers, it'd be a non-issue. But until then, I'm going to keep myself safe, even if it means some cars are a bit later (like 10 seconds at most). If it gets to the point where they can't pass for too long, I stop anyway.

    Some of these 'hates' sound a bit petty, the hessitation at junctions, slow pull away at traffic lights for instance. They're generally small inconvienences, and really nothing to 'hate'.
    The 'hate' of cyclists, thats in a different category.
    Drivers who say they 'hate' cyclists worry me. There is a massive consequence imbalance in this sititation.
    I'm a driver and cyclist, and while I know there are cyclists who don't follow all the road rules, in my experience, cyclists have a lot more reason to feel 'hate' towards drivers than the other way around. There are drivers who think its fun to shave past cyclists very closely, follow them closely, pass then immediately turn left across their path, open doors without looking, pull out of driveways/junctions without seeing cyclists.
    It really comes down to being considerate (both ways) and drivers realising that the mainly small inconvieninces of sharing the roads with cyclists are nothing to the major inconvieniences a cyclist faces from aggressive and inconsiderate drivers (in my case a broken neck from a collision with an impatient driver who didn't 'hessitate at a junction').

    here are a few that I encounter almost daily in my rural area.
    1.) People who insist on blocking a whole lane of traffic to turn when there's a dedicated turning lane or a shoulder wide enough to fit their vehicle.
    2.) People who tailgate with their brights on.
    3.) People who don't/won't turn off their brights when approaching traffic in the opposing lane.
    4.) People who slow down when they see a cop on the side of the road despite already going under the speed limit.
    5.) People who can't maintain their lane position, especially when following a curve in a two lane road.
    6.) People who clearly don't have enough time to make it across an intersection (one where cross traffic doesn't stop) but will try it anyway.
    7.) People who haul trailers in the passing lane
    8.) People who pace tractor trailers and other heavy equipment.

That is fanger to our lives, so as we try to keep out lives, we drive jn the middle. If there would be less morons who do that, we probably wouldn't

      As well as that may be, if you are not allowed to do it, then don't. because a lot of car drivers are thinking the exact same thing about cyclists behaving like that. I do both, and in my country the average cyclist is worse than a car driver. Participating in traffic starts with safety not with being an egotistical asshole.

    In Mexico you're not supposed to indicate your turns or lane changes. Driving here is a constant war against other drivers for the slightest centimeter of road, and indicating your turns might as well be a "HOG MY LANE" sign. You need to attack by surprise, be unexpected, and win that vital piece of road before someone else wins it.

    You know there are MANY worse drivers out there than there are cyclists, right? Except a bicycle doesn't weigh a tonne...They also take up less room than four, or more, wheeled vehicles with engines and generate zero emissions. Most of the unbelievely dangerous behaviour I witness regularly in the road is by...you guessed it, CAR drivers doing daft things like racing to get to the red light a few hundred metres away so they can sit there burning their clutch out or sitting with their foot on the brake just waiting for someone to rear end them so they can damage the car in front.

  • @maxflame21

    I understand the hate on SOME cyclists, I go training on my bike every other day and so far what I seen from driving and riding, cars are being far worse than any cyclist I ride with (Yes, I know many cyclists idiots and even *****s). Just remember, when you're driving, any cyclist you are sharing the road with has to trust you with their life. You can kill them, the worst they can do is scratch your paint work. Oh and before a 'smart' guy comes in and says, "don't ride a bike then", people have their reasons for riding a bike, from money issues to fitness. I can go on all day so ending now...

    I'm dying from the amount of people that absolutely hate ALL cyclists. Listen, I have no problem if you dislike cyclists, that's life... Hating all cyclists is just being an asshole. If I notice a car behind me for more than 30 seconds, I usually pull over to let them pass even though I don't have to. I always let vehicles out when I can and when it's safe... Yet I don't have to... Just hate specific cyclists, rather than all of us. Again, I don't have anything against you hating us. But some of you moan at cyclists running red lights, cycling in center of lane, much more... Can I just remind you, I've seen plenty of cars running red lights. Just admit that some of us are as bad as each other? If that doesn't make you feel better then maybe this will? If there was some sort of vote to implant a law for cyclists have to have a licence, then I'm down for that. That way some of the ignorant motorists will have no excuse saying that I'm above the law, since I could get banned. Just remember some cyclists aren't assholes, like motorists, you're not all assholes. Have a great evening / day and I hope most ignorant motorists and cyclists will just get along. I'm so bored of getting a bad name, because of other assholes. :)
