    • @juststatedtheobvious9633
      @juststatedtheobvious9633 3 года назад +23

      Because he's too busy showing off to worry about accuracy, and beating 3D Land doesn't give him the valuable gamer points.
      You can tell by the way he admits the games are for players of all skill levels, then insists the easy ones are objectively bad. And pretends Mario 64 has simpler game mechanics than some of the more nostalgic runners up. (It allows him to mention he beat it 100 times.)
      It'd probably blow his mind to know that some of us can enjoy both Souls-likes and Kirby.

Even without Funky Mode, that game gives out so many lives that I don't think I ever saw the gameover screen until I saw it on RUclips lol. Thracia 776 was a decent pick for Fire Emblem's hardest game. But you were wrong about it being released on wii virtual console in the west. That just didn't happen. The footage you used with English text is from the Project Exile fan translation romhack.
    If you're taking into consideration all of the hard modes in the franchise though, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow's Lunatic Reverse mode is probably the hardest, since it has extremely hard enemies everywhere, as well as changing combat so enemies always attack first, even on player turn.

    Good list, but I don't agree with many of your picks.
    -Zelda 2 is way harder than the first Zelda (and far less enjoyable)
    -Mario 3D Land is not only the easiest 3D Mario but the easiest Mario in general, being neck to neck with New Super Mario Bros. 2, if only because that last level in 3D Land is quite challenging. Both Galaxy 1 and 2 are pretty easy as well, if it weren't for those shooting star challenges they'd be a walk in the park. I feel you chose Galaxy 2 as the 2nd place only because that infernal last level, which is pretty tough. 3D World is quite more challenging my opinion.
    -Metroid 1 is by far the hardest metroid (non-Prime) game. Metroid 2 is not hard, only slow-paced and dull, sometimes frustrating as well.
    -And as far as I know (I haven't played it) DK country 3 is considered to be the hardest one. The first DK country is quite the challenge too, and although DKC returns is hard, is not even as hard as the first DK country, but twice as fun, that's true.

      I find it weird that his only reason for it being the most difficult is the map, getting lost in a game doesn't make it hard it is the actual enemies and platforming that does. Losing 4 hours on a level getting lost isn't a big deal maybe frustrating but not difficult

    • @MrDiana1706
      @MrDiana1706 3 года назад +1

      Similar to Metroid II, DKC3 is just slower paced and combines some thought-inducing but fast puzzles with 2D platforming levels, and the level gimmicks take a bigger spotlight due to this (it's not a surprise this team went on to make Banjo-Kazooir). If anything the bonus sections are way harder rather than feeling like an achievement for finding the B-barrels, but even then if you fail this game more than the others will let you most of the time go back to said barrels easily without having to repeat the level.

    • @mattb6522
      @mattb6522 3 года назад +2

      Totally agree. Pikmin 2 could get downright _brutal_ with some of its cave layouts and enemies. Randomly falling rocks, bomb rocks, insta-death electricity, enemies that regained health after death? Yeah, it did not mess around. Purple Pikmin did help a bit, though.
      Pikmin 3 was _sooo_ much easier than 2. The fruit juice system was very generous. Many of the enemies and bosses seemed _easier_ to take out than the previous games. The charge attack also makes short work of many baddies. I never really feared for my life like I did in 2.
      Pikmin 1 still seems the most balanced Pikmin game, but still pretty easy (not as easy as 3, though). Only having Red, Yellow and Blue keeps things simple, but most enemies aren't too tough (you'll still most likely lose a bunch in some encounters). If you had access to Flying, Purple and Rock Pikmin you could totally break this game in half, though! 😅

    On Metroid: I would say Prime 2 takes the cake for me at least, it had by far one of the hardest bosses (other bosses were also pretty difficult for the most part) in the series and some annoying mechanics, but Metroid II is a good choice that I can agree with.
    On Fire Emblem: If you're playing blind and not knowing the mechanics (which is reasonably the majority of players), Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 is the hardest, yes, but once you get to know the mechanics it is more easy than what people make it out to be. I guess that this list considers the overall difficulty of the game, not just a simple mode, but I would say that the hardest game in a Fire Emblem game is Awakening on Lunatic+ difficulty. You have to constantly reset for the enemy to have certain skills so you can play in your favour, but even if you manage to do so you still need get lucky to even have a chance. Awakening Lunatic+ is Frederick Emblem for the first part and for the second using your avatar (Robin) equipped with Nosferatu tomes lol.

I'm not saying it is an easy game (It is not, and I don't think that Metroid has any easy games aside from Zero Mission, but even in ZM some bosses gave me trouble), I'm genuinely asking where did you have problems. I'm guessing that the pit you fall from Brinstar to Norfair, Maridia + Phantoon and Tourian were the ones you found difficult? I'm just curious since Super is one of my favorites and I love analyzing its structure lol

    • @mattb6522
      @mattb6522 3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I'd vote Metroid Prime 2 as the hardest Metroid as well (at least for the 3D Metroids). The Boost Guardian, Alpha Blogg, Chykka, Spider Guardian, Quadraxis, and Dark Samus all can obliterate you if you don't know what you're doing. The darkness mechanic added a lot of tension, so you were always playing in "survival mode". I mean, Metroid Prime did have some challenging sections, but Prime 2 ramps up the difficulty considerably even from the beginning.

    Yes, you can get lost but it's more on the account of where to go next rather then not knowing where you're at. Like a good Metroidvania game, Metroid II actually challenges you to remember the path you made through the labyrinth.

      It also helps that the general means of progression is made pretty clear. You know that there's more areas as you dig deeper underground, so a map isn't necessary for figuring out where to go.
      However, the map is pretty necessary to find the energy/missile restore points, since the Omega Metroids at the end of the game eat up so many resources that you have to backtrack a bunch just to make the fights possible.

    A few odd choices here. 2D and 3D Mario are separated, but Zelda is lumped together, and 3D Metroid is entirely ignored.
    Also, the creator doesn't seem to have much Wario Land experience. Describing Shake It as an amalgamation of all previous games is odd. It basically follows 4's formula, and actually downplays many elements 4 shared with the earlier games (removing certain moves, and severely cutting down the variety and amount of times status transformations are used).

    I actually breezed through the Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door but I abused the mechanics of the Last Stand Badge (+2 attack when in danger and cost 1 BP to equip). I called it my Danger Mario Build or One-Jump Man.
    I invested all my levels into BP and got like 20-30 Last Stand badges from the Pianta parlor and equipped all of them with 2-3 FP Savers, FP Drain, HP Drain, and protection badges (I.e. jump protection from fire/ spikey enemies and badges that raise evasion when in danger or raise defense). You can easily equip all this with like 50 BP.
    Then went to Cheato and reduced my max HP to 5 so I was always in Danger and invested those levels from HP into BP for more wiggle room.
    At most you would take 1-2 if I got hit. 70% of attacks would miss. And HP Drain would heal the damage you did take. All of Mario’s special attacks cost 1-2 FP that would recover after I attacked with FP Drain. And I would do deal 40+ damage PER HIT. So I was able to one shot every enemy (including BoneTail and Shadow Queen after all the mandatory cut scenes) with a Multibounce.

      TBH I wouldn't count them since you need to beat the game in normal difficulty in order to unlock the hard mode, plus it pretty much only gives you a level disadvantage with trainers rather than modifying the layout and making the HMs less of an optional tool, not to mention that since G5 the TMs have unlimited use. On the other hand, DPP are not only slow but have some tough routes and a heavy need for HMs that pretty much force you to sacrifice at least one team slot in order to go through (let alone the foggy route, if you don't have a bird pokémon it's gonna be a pain), so by the time you reach the Elite 4 and Cynthia some members of your team will most likely be underleveled as a result. It's not as hard battle-wise but rather design-wise and that makes it more tedious in the long run.

    Id actually argue that Fire Emblem Fates, more specifically Birthright, is the easiest in the series, mostly because of Phoenix Mode which basically makes you invincible as long as you keep one unit alive. That alongside the weapons that have no durability and the potential DLC that can give you very easy access to grinding (if purchased) allow you to basically be strong enough to not even come close to losing a single battle and also allows you to take reckless decisions with no consequences whatsoever.

      @@Pandacalifornia The main game is pathetic, but wait till you play heroes in another dimension and the ultimate choice. This is a sign that hal had enough of us complaining that kirby is too easy and they gave us the middle finger by these 2 modes. (3.0 update)

    Sacred Stone is only easy because Seth. Which is just win button. Also Sacred stone is the easiest for first playthrough. If you go for 2nd optimize playthrough. Awakening and Echoes is probably much easier than Sacred Stone. Especially if you include DLC.

    I definitely must disagree with Zelda 1 being the hardest rather than Zelda 2.

    The controls and cámara of 64 alone makes it a hard game.

    I feel bad because everyone in the comments is kinda roasting the picks, but I disagree with the majority of the picks here so I'm just gonna get this out of the way:
    2D Mario: Both of these picks are pretty agreeable
    3D Mario: Super Mario 3D Land is definitely easier than 64, absolutely no doubt in my mind. I agree with Sunshine though.
    (Why not separate 2D and 3D Zelda?)
    2D Zelda: Zelda II is WAY harder than Zelda 1. I've beaten both, it's no question. Minish cap seems reasonable.
    3D Zelda: Skyward Sword or Breath of the Wild are probably the easiest, but they are all quite close. Majora's Mask is almost certainly the hardest.
    Mario RPG: I agree with these picks for the most part, but I think you could make a case for any of the modern Paper Mario games being the easiest, especially Sticker Star.
    2D Metroid: Ok, Metroid II isn't a *bad* game, it's just rough. Metroid NES is definitely the harder game though, it's worse than 2 in every possible way. Agreed on ZM.
    Metroid Prime: Honestly only played the first one so far, so ig that's the easiest. Prime 4 is the hardest because it will never release.
    Donkey Kong: DKC is the easiest? No way! Returns is a mile easier. The hardest is probably one of the country games or DK64, but I think I agree with 64.
    Starfox: Not really a big fan, but shouldn't Starfox 2 on SNES be considered harder? If the first game was jank, 2 is almost unplayable with it's bizzare control schemes and ambition.
    Wario Land: Yeah this is pretty accurate from what I have played, although I haven't played most of them.
    WarioWare: Gold contains a lot of extra modes that are really brutal compared to other entries, but the story is the easiest. Otherwise I agree with your picks.
    Kirby: This is the craziest part of your list. Epic Yarn HAS to be the easiest game! No game is really hard, but mass attack is not a bad pick imo.
    Yoshi: I agree with your picks here.
    Fire Emblem/Pokemon: I don't care much for these series aside from a couple games in each, so I can't comment here.
    To add a couple series you didn't mention:
    Xenoblade: This is a surprisingly hard question. Difficulty is very consistent across the games, but I think 2 is on the easier side? Maybe?
    Mother/Earthbound: Mother 1 is obviously the hardest by far. Mother 3 is probably the easiest. That one was easy!

    What about Splatoon? What about Mario Kart? What about Mario Sports Games? What about Earthbound? What about F-Zero? What about Kid Icarus? What about my beloved Pikmin? What about Smash Bros. (Subspace Emissary / World of Light)? What about Chibi Robo? What about Rhythm Heaven? What about Animal Crossing? What about Punch Out? What about Xenoblade?
    And He actually called it every single Nintendo franchise...
    I know it's Nitpicky but he should at least have included some of the bigger names like Splatoon, Animal Crossing and Pikmin that each have a bit to talk about.

    I've played Thracia before and honestly it isn't very hard, it's personally my favorite game in the series. The fog of war is a hard mechanic but you are given multiple torches in the game. The game also has the scrolls mechanics which modifies character growths and help to make characters stronger. Along with that the universal stat cap is 20 so even bad units can become really good. I'd personally say the hardest game in the franchise is FE6 (from my experience), characters are often bad, the main lord is a terrible character in terms of stats, the RNG for hit rated is bugged and characters often have hit rates around the 50-70% which means you're prone to miss boss-killer hits a lot of the time, Sacae route is almost impossible, and very RNG dependant, bosses are so busted they can make Rutger (the unit you mostly use for boss-killing due to his great speed/skill/attack and his ability to use a Legendary weapon early into the game) look like a bad unit.

    If Kid Icarus was on this list I think the first game is the hardest (despite it's Final Boss) and the easiest would be Uprising partly because you can choose the difficulty.
