  • This video gives an animated short introduction to the barrage type hydro electric power station and how it works. This type of power station is also referred to as a tidal power station, or, tidal power plant.
    There are different barrage tidal generating methods, some generate power in only one flow direction, but the 3D model used in this video generates in both directions.
    The video briefly introduces some of the major parts of a barrage tidal power plant, this includes the sluice gates, wicket gate, Kaplan turbine and barrage etc.
    By the end of this video, you will know how electricity is made from a hydro power plant.
    The 3D model in the video can be found at saVRee.com or 3D-knowledge.com.

    Thank you for this clear and fast explanation. Every coastal city should have at least some of its electricity from tidal energy. Not only do you generate electricity but you're also circulating water inside the bay, keeping it fresh!

      Like dams they’re very harmful to animals

    What’s stopping Marine life, fish etc from being chopped up by the turbines?

    • @3dknowledge
      @3dknowledge  6 лет назад +4

      Not much. Modern bulb turbines are 'fish friendly' but older versions are not. There is a pressure drop as water passes across the blades and any fish that experiences this is unlikely to be happy about it. I heard they were experimenting with acoustic sounds to scare fish away from the pens tick, but I never read much into it.

    Hi John thanks for explaining that I am no expert at all but I do understand if you have water on both sides of propeller ,even if one side is higher than the other there will still be resistance because you have water on both sides would it not be better that the generator moved up and down a shaft so that so there is air on one side?
