One thing that would add a little to the cost to build but would help the fish is if instead of ladders that have bends, just make pools downstream of the weir that are within reason of what the fish can jump. Then the fish would not have to search out the route up the fish ladder and could just go upstream. If your weir is say 20' high, make 8 pools downstream that only change the level by 2.5 ft. If the fish that are native don't jump, make the whole area sloped with weirs spaced every few feet to give a reduction in the speed of the flow. The wider the area the fish have to find, the more likely they will be to use it. Also, the downstream sluice gate needs a grill to keep the fish out.

    Excellent video and 3D rendering.
I was of the opinion that based on the head which appeared to be around 50 Meters to me, a Francis turbine would have been used. The head and elevation angle would have given it a decent flow rate.
However, I see the rationale behind the use of the Kaplan. The blades can be adjusted for zero pitch as an automated fail-safe mechanism to protect the turbine.
    Thanks for compiling and posting!

Most I have seen with this setup have been Kaplan, but it really does depend on the conditions. Thanks for the comment! Don't forget to check out the new channel! 😃

Thank you for the video, two questions:
How do you get the water to the reservoir ?
Do you have a book for for this please ?

    Beautiful 3d model sir.
Pardon me if I am wrong, but the first priority to step up the voltage into HV for transmission line is to reduce the power loss because of its far distance from power plant to substation instead of cost.
For cost, whether ais or gis type for hv are way more expensive than mv switchgear. Also the cost for adding step up transformer and any other monitoring and maintenance too.
If that power plant is specific only for small rural area (maybe only micro hydro model / small wattage output), no need to use swithgear, mv generator and any step up transformer. Only use lv generator, switchboard and maybe synchron panel for more than 1 genset.
    Cmiiw.

Check out some of the new videos on the new channel (saVRee). You will see stuff on there about power loss and transformers. But you're right, smaller plants don't need this sort of equipment.

sir, will it be possible to join two or more project for increase the power for one line?

    • @3dknowledge
      @3dknowledge  6 лет назад +1

Maybe. But you would also need to change all the settings for things like breakers, switchgear etc. The impedance in the circuit also changes and the cables may not be suitable to carry more amps. There is a lot to consider and you would need an electrical engineer to go through the whole system. You would also need new system studies e.g. Short circuit, coordination studies etc.

Great video! But although this kind of water generator cause less damage to the environment, it is much less effective in utilize the kinetic energy from the river. Right?
BTW, If everything goes ok, this month I will become a Patreon from your Video/site :D

Thanks! A patreon is always welcome! I will have to check the Patreon page and check its correct, can't remember what I put on it (was not much happening on that page ha ha 😀).
Coming to your question... Yes, they are less reliable because the water level varies so the head of pressure also varies. Sometimes the water level or flow rate is too low to generate power, this happens for a couple of months a year in Europe depending on where you live. So the power source is very 'green' but not reliable (common problem with many renewables).
      Interesting Case Study
In Germany, they actually have to let water by-pass many hydro plants when its sunny and windy. There are literally too many solar plants and wind turbines in operation, and these guys push the price of electricity down (the price can be negative, which means you pay to get rid of your electricity...no joke). This just shows that even if you have a fantastic source of electrical power, economics and politics can make a mess of it (sigh). The biggest problem seems to be storing the energy, if we can solve that, then we really will have a better world.
