    Dunno how fast the Merc will be on race pace, but watching Lewis today from the cockpit camera and how smooth his inputs were and how he was able to place the car where he wanted to, tells me that he doesn't have to fight this car like the '22/'23 ones. It's copium. From watching the Sky coverage for the past two days, Ted suggested on his notebook 'there was nothing between Ferrari and Mercedes' which just clearly wasn't true. Then today Rachel Brookes opened today's coverage by asking Lawrence and Jolyon "who do you think is second to Red Bull, is it Mercedes or McLaren.... or Ferrari?' as if Ferrari were an afterthought, but what was funny was that both Lawrence and Jolyon said Ferrari and McLaren in that order. This is precisely why Sky Sports F1 is often mocked on Twitter as being 'Sky Sports Mercedes F1'.

    The cannon label on the RB will likely stick but cannon barrels are straight. But cannon sounds better more aggressive than what they more closely resemble "sausages" or "bangers".lol
    Photos of the "goods" under the side pods taken in pit lane garage support Scarbs contention that a zero side pod configuration will appear is "bunk".
    Form follows function and the bulky cooling hardware under the pods aft of the inlets squash a zero pod scenario for RB. The plumbing arrangement at this stage is locked down. Its' friendliness to having its' aerodynamic covering "massaged" and sculptured as the season evolves is where aero based speed gains will be made. Because that's what history has illustrated hasn't it? Scarbs prediction that the compactness allows opportunities for further RB enhancement just makes common sense.
    Obi Wan Newey and his young apprentices are masters of the "Air Force" every other team is being lead by the nose to the aerodynamic solution. Sadly for them they only have access to last years teachings!

    I'm not an aerodynamicist. But regarding the Halo inlets. They moved a lot of accessories upwards to make more room for the cut of the sidepod. These coolers on top are exhausting on either side of the bulges. Probably at the same height of the rear wing. They use this hot air to disrupt the airflow of the rear wing and stall it at high speeds. Basically a similar concept of tue F duct but executed differently. Mechanical grip and ground effect for low to mid speeds. Again im not an aerodynamicist.

    • @harryfeng4199
      @harryfeng4199 3 месяца назад +2

      Not an expert, but I don’t think so. Just my opinion ofc. Teams are trying to exit exhaust air IN BETWEEN crucial aero surfaces (ie in between rear wing and beam wing), in other words, they want CLEAN air to actually hit those surfaces. If I understood u correctly, blowing spent air from the bulges onto the rear wing sounds like an unwise design, it would render the rear wing semi-useless. Any aero surfaces/devices need clean as possible air to extract peak performance. Maybe that’ll decrease the drag but it’ll also decrease the downforce by greater folds. F duct directed air thru the air device itself, not blowing spent air onto it externally.

    I don’t get why they are so against the Y250 yet they allow the top element of the rear wing to hang out without end fences to mitigate the vortexes rolling off the ends of that flap

    • @deltaelite42
      @deltaelite42 3 месяца назад +1

      End fences don't mitigate wing tip vortexes, since the strength of the vortex is a function of the pressure difference between the 2 zones and the presence of end plates creates a bigger pressure because the air cannot bleed off to the sides of the wing and equalise pressure. So the absence of end plates is positive in this regard

    • @lexuslfa4739
      @lexuslfa4739 3 месяца назад

      @@deltaelite42 they absolutely mitigate wing tip vortices and prevent such losses by creating that big pressure differential. Vortices are created by the air spilling off the top surface of the wing and into the bottom thus the swirling mass of air, by installing end plates you prevent the air from the top from spilling over to the bottom. Why do you think they now require the front wing elects to run the entire length up to the nose. Also it’s called a wing tip vortex for that particular reason.

    No, Perez Spent the entire first session on the Extra hard tire, and that was when he was actually on track. Which was maybe 20% of the session. One can only assume more complaining about the car by him because it's not like he could actually be the problem. Day 2 rubber on the track and on Softs (Charles best time) Max is 2.5-3 seconds better than a no grip medium Day 1. That miles ahead of anyone else today. Perez by RB standards was horrible all day. And the 30-45 minute stops taking the entire car apart. Why, well we all know why. He is complaining about EVERYTHING. Just drive the damn car or find someone who will. I bet Lawson wouldn't be complaining. In the end, you look at half the drivers on the grid and some back ups as well as a few in F2. And you think, if they were in the RB20 how likely is it that they'd finish 2nd in the title? Start going down the list and what you give each drivers chances. Fernando, Lewis, Charles, Lando, Oscar, Carlos, George, Val, Nico, Kmag, Alexander and Danial are all 95-100%. Yuki 90. Then it starts to drop from there. I'd give Drogo 80% as well as Lawson and a few F2 Drivers. RB went out of their way to make this car more friendly to Perez and all he does is bitch bitch bitch.
    Also a note for Merc. Anyone else Notice the front end of Lewis's car was raised a good amount higher than what they had Russel's at yesterday.. 🤔🤫

    Both the halo and vertical inlets show how smart RB have been because the vertical inlets will clean up the boundary layer and the halo inlets will help clean up some of the messier spill you get over the top of the cockpit, it's distributed cooling but targeting some of the least aerodynamically useful airflows as well

    "Zeropods - i thats complete fake" - BRAVO! Finally one of the technical experts of the F1 media landscape has recognized it! At last! Red Bull's side box is full, completely horizontally packed with radiators and aggregates, so that it is completely impossible to implement a Zeropod concept without converting the car so that it would practically be a completely new car! What Red Bull has done is ultimately a concept that has nothing to do with Zeropods! It is rather a relatively conventional concept, namely a V-shaped radiator arrangement that was already used 20 years ago (Sauber introduced it in 2004) to make the undercut bigger and the sidepods smaller, combined with more centerline cooling, which is nothing new either (the Ferrari F2004 had additional cooling outlets in the middle of the car, also to make the sidepods smaller). So Red Bull have used and developed old concepts and adapted them to the new regulations in a way (something Newey does all the time) to make the undercut bigger and require less cooling surface on the outside and thus reduce some drag (which should be minimal as the extra vents also have drag). Clever, but not a revolution or extremely spectacular. Ultimately a logical evolution. A very consequent one. But not a revolution and definetely nothing that has anything to do with Zeropods.

      Yes.
