Matthew Bramford shot a superb bogey-free 65 to take the lead in the Africa Amateur Championship on seven-under-par after the first day’s play at Leopard Creek.
The Zimbabwean holds a one-shot advantage over South Africa’s Ivan Verster, who carded a 66 in glorious, but hot and demanding weather conditions, to finish the first round in second place on six-under-par.
This week’s winner will earn exemptions into The 152nd Open at Royal Troon, The Amateur Championship, the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq.

A lot of us in the other countries feel the same. Or at least a few shots on the live stream. To many of these guys it will probably be a highlight in their career to be broadcasted. Albeit a single shot.

Typical ... 9:45 of the boys playing golf and only 1:15 of the girls
