    Well you just solved my bromeliad problem and didn’t even realize it. I have watched several videos on these and I seem to be doing everything right but mine was still not doing well, and you mentioned the metals. I’ve been using tap water on it, and the tapwater in my area has a very high metal content, it’s very hard water, going to start using bottled of water from the store and I bet it’ll perk up thank you so much!

    Some places where I've looked have said to occasionally drain the plants center to prevent stagnation, but I'm not quite sure how.

    I have a small yellow one and I have noticed that the top most leaves are starting to brown... not the green base leaves but the top bracts. I will lessen my watering but I just wanted to know if that is actually the problem. The plant does have 3 pups growing at the base which is nice to see that it is coming back in another way, but I do want to try and keep the original plant longer.

    How soon do the colorful bracts appear and how long do the bracts hang around for? How long do the bracts last before and after there is a flower?

    The 'Medicine Man movie brought me here...Never heard of a Bromeliad b4 but had to check it out because apparently it only flowers once and then it dies...In the movie, the flower is used to cure cancer.

    My plant was exposed to too much sun and the bracts started to lose their color. Like sun bleached. There’s not going back is there?

    I find that bromeliads indoors need a good amount of light and air flow to have water sitting in their cup like crown.

    Hi I bought my first bromilade and I realized when I brought it home it was dying but then I realized I had a pup on it's way. I kept it attached to the mother as long as I could but recently I realized the pups leaves weren't looking so hot. Today I removed the pup and planted it. The roots were in tact. The big mystery is this. My bromeliad has white stripes on it but today as I was examining I touched the white stripes and it came right off! This is such a mystery to me. I cant imagine powdery mildew would be the culprit but that's kind of what it looks like to me although I have no idea how powdery mildew would form perfect stripes all the same length. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? It's also on my pup too and like I said it looks like a design from the plant but when you touch it, it comes right off. Any advice would be appreciated thank you!

    Do you keep about an inch of water in the cup at all times? Do you water the soil at all? Can you spray the plant? Mine has two tall flowers on it. I just got it for Mother's Day. I have it on my sun porch. Was thinking about using Osmocote. So when do I start fertizing it?

    I've just saw someone just show how to get it to flower to grow faster by saturated the plant and put apples in the bag then close the bag kept it in the bag for 2 weeks? what is the purpose on doing that then take out of the bag and then re potted it again?

    • @johno3326
      @johno3326 4 года назад

      The apples release a gas called ethylene which the plant needs

    Dave. Thanks for sharing the tips. Can I ask how the plants are given different colours? 😊

    • @growingwisdom
      @growingwisdom  4 года назад

      It's natural it's like any flower.

    • @muhammadjahangir5624
      @muhammadjahangir5624 4 года назад

      Thanks for the reply. The natural colour of the flower is green. These flowers don't get any colour other than green naturally.
      Poinsettia also gets green leaves after the coloured leaves fall down. I have heard that some kind of gas is used to change the colour. Any comments or sharing personal experience on this will be appreciated.
