    I think that is a really cool set, but I would have a bigger locomotive to match the tender and I would have had the locomotive resemble the real one a bit more, like having that cylinder on the smock box, an extra set of drive weals, and the name of the train on the front of the locomotive just like in the picture. other then that, the train is cool and is something nice to bring back from the prewar times.

    • @jasonrackawack9369
      @jasonrackawack9369 3 года назад +2

      The tank on the front of the boiler is a feed water heater, it was used to prewarm the cold water from the tender before entering the boiler to maximize thermal efficency. The real blue comet was an amazing machine, its top speed was about 100mph but usually ran a steady 70mph.

    I personally hate this set. I think the tender is too big, the tender and the engine are WAY too far apart, the locomotive is WAY too small, the cowcatcher is too high up, the cowcatcher is just a plastic mold with no holes, there is a severe lack of details, and I think Lionel should've gone with the original 4-6-2 Pacific design. My Santa Fe 0-8-0 Switcher set has more detail than this model.
    I can clearly tell that this model lacks so much. I wouldn't mind the Atlantic switch if they made the proportions better and they put the locomotive closer to the ground. It’s just an awful set…

    • @WesternOhioInterurbanHistory
      @WesternOhioInterurbanHistory 2 года назад +1

      It gets worse when you realize they have a similar sized 4-4-2 with the iconic feedwater heater that they could have used, would have kept the set affordable and look 10x better

      @@TrainGuru if they had a correctly portioned tender and a proper feedeater heater (still a 4-4-2) this set would be great, it would look cool and still be affordable.

    The loco is awful but the cars and sounds are very nice. They should have used a more pro-typical Pacific. I really can’t believe it’s basically a cheap Lionel Scout as the locomotive. I don’t think this set does the Original pre war set any justice.. it’s just junk.
