@@azul93gt38you’re not wrong if you’ve forgotten.
But in 95 ND had lost to NW first game, they still had an outside chance to go the championship until Ohio State beat them 45-26 and effectively ended their title campaign.
In 96 Ohio state handed Notre Dame its largest loss in week 4 with a score of 29-16.
Ohio State did end two seasons for Lou Holtz’s ND teams in 95-96.
And Lou Holtz left after that season. He used reasons like records he didn’t feel he was worthy of, and also said he was tired of maintaining… but it isn’t an exaggeration to say Lou didn’t have a solution for beating John Cooper’s Ohio State team.

    2. Lou Holtz, as retiree, fan, and as a guest on his former employer's network, can SAY ANYTHING HE WANTS ABOUT COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Notre Dame doesn't control him, ND doesn't tell him what he can and can't say.
    3. Anyone with at least an 8th grade education should UNDERSTAND that during the lead up to a huge football game like this one was, ie easily the biggest game of the year so far, there are all kinds of hype, there are interviews all over with ex players, ex coaches, and analysts or ex analyst jock sniffers that spew all kinds of opinions. Both on the Ohio St side and the Notre Dame side. One could cherry pick all kinds of statements before this game to focus on and criticize and get riled up about. On top of this, you have ESPN LEAD ANALYST KIRK BURPSTREET on the MOTHERSHIP tube/internet 24/7 spewing his PRO BUCKEYE typical slanted bullcrap and he's SUPPOSED TO BE NEUTRAL!! What a joke that is every year.
    4. What anyone with at least an 8th grade education should understand is that when Lou gets interviewed on ESPN as a GUEST, as an EX coach, as a FAN, as a lover of college football, he also is playing a role to some extent. His role is to defend his beloved Notre Dame, his role is to throw in some funny stories and anecdotes, his role is to throw in a few zingers, and EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS HE WILL BE OVER THE TOP LOYAL TO NOTRE DAME. He's there to stir the pot, to make all the Notre Dame haters get pizzed off and mad, and maybe get the opposing school's fanbase angry and mad at him. He understands its entertainment. He understands what people expect. He's a master manipulator and motivational speaker.
    5. So when Lou Holtz says "I think Ohio St's defense is a little soft", a)he's only repeating what many other cfb analysts had already said about Ohio St b) he may truly and legitimately believed that this ND offense with an experienced QB had the weapons to ball control and be physically dominant over Ohio Sts defense (AND HE WAS RIGHT, ND CONTROLLED THE GAME MOST OF THE GAME, ESPECIALLY THE 2ND H). c) he was doing his best to irritate the opposition and all the ND haters per his role as ex ND coach uber fan, demonstrating his loyalty to his ex university where he has a statue up for what should be TWO NC.
HOLTZ WAS NOT SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF NOTRE DAME OFFICIALLY, OR FOR MARCUS FREEMAN, OR ON BEHALF OF THE CURRENT PLAYERS ON ND. One would have to be an idiot who understands nothing about college fb to think otherwise.
    6. Ryan Day is an idiot. His foaming at the mouth, spit spraying, red faced, neck veined, post game tirade on national TV publicly bludgeoning little ol 86 year old man EX Notre Dame head coach 25 years ago Lou Holtz for repeating the OFT STATED OPINION OF MANY COLLEGE FOOTBALL ANALYSTS THAT OHIO ST WAS A BIT SOFT ON DEFENSE was ABSURD, RIDICULOUS, OVER THE TOP, LUDICROUS MISPLACED, MISDIRECTED OUT OF CONTROL RAGE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS.
    7. On top of that, Ryan Day's unhinged Tom Cruise Jumping on the Couch type RAGE at an iconic EX Notre Dame coach and LEGEND for simply stating his opinion on a TV Network that is known by many as THE OFFICIAL OHIO ST CHANNEL was INSULTING of an old man COACHING LEGEND, WAS INSULTING OF MARCUS FREEMAN, WAS INSULTING OF THE NOTRE DAME PLAYERS WHO OUTPLAYED HIS TEAM FOR 59 MIN AND 59 SECONDS, WAS INSULTING TO THAT ENTIRE RAUCOUS NOTRE DAME CROWD, WAS INSULTING TO ALL NOTRE DAME ALUMNI, AND WAS INSULTING TO ALL COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANS IN GENERAL.
    8. Ryan Day turned a GREAT EPIC GAME that lived UP TO THE HYPE, a game where both teams should have been proud (but for the last 7 seconds), a game where both teams of players battled proudly to the end, and turned it all into a WWF/WWE RANT OF AN EVIL VILLIAN!! RYAN DAY MADE A MOCKERY OF THAT GAME, OF NOTRE DAME, OF OHIO ST, OF LOU HOLTZ AND OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL IN GENERAL. It was so over the top insanely ridiculous to deflect what Holtz stated as if NOTRE DAME OFFICIALLY, MARCUS FREEMAN, THE IRISH PLAYERS SAID IT, it was pathetic, dishonest and worse than any WORLD WRESTLING VILLAINOUS RANT.
WHAT LOU HOLTZ SAID HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NOTRE DAME OFFICIALLY, THE CURRENT COACHING STAFF, ATHLETIC ADMIN OR ESPECIALLY THE PLAYERS. NOTHING. HE'S A BLITHERING IDIOT TO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT.
AND ITS EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS YOU ARE DEFENDING RYAN DAY'S EVIL VILLAIN WWE RANT AS LEGIT AND NORMAL AND NOT CALL OUT THE MISPLACED RAGE AND ABSURDITY OF IT.
    9. AND YET, LOU HOLTZ WAS RIGHT. NOTRE DAME DOMINATED THE SECOND HALF, CONTROLLED THE CLOCK AND THE BALL, TORE UP OHIO STS DEFENSE WITH CHUNK YARDAGE AND RAN AT WILL. NOTRE DAME LOST THE GAME IN THE FINAL 7 SEC, OHIO ST DIDN'T WIN IT.
    10. RYAN DAY SHOULD PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE TO LOU HOLTZ, TO NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY, AND TO ALL FANS WHO WATCHED THAT CLASSIC FOR HIS MISPLACED RAGE AND UNHINGED RANT. HE SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO ALL CFB FANS. AND SO SHOULD YOU FOR DEFENDING THAT PATHETIC IMMATURE DISPLAY.

I think it was surprising in that he picked the wrong game for his rant. He was witnessing his defensive line being pushed around in Notre Dame two scoring drives toward the end of the game. Honestly his defense was being out physical and tiring toward the end of the game. His offensive line was struggling in the red zone. You can imagine what was going on in his head. He was fortunate when his quarterback threw the ball at a Irish Defender and it was dropped. He was bailed out and was gifted a victory. Now the rant should have been saved for the last weekend in November in the big house. That's the team that he needs to out physical. And when that happens yes then bring out that rant. That would be the appropriate time.

RD is acting like Lou Holtz invented that narrative…it’s been the national criticism of RD teams since they lost to UM 2 years ago and further proven last year. UM actually has so much less speed and talent, it’s the only logical explanation. ND actually has more composite talent than UM on all the recruiting sites. Why is he acting like he’s never heard that before? Why is he acting like people picking ND was crazy? If I’m scouting OSU and I have strong lines, I’m thinking the same.
RD responding to that is ridiculous because ND did bully them at the los plenty and his play-calling was horse 💩 for most of the game. OSU fans were screaming at their TV often on Saturday night. RD was bailed out by his players and should be thanking him for saving his ass. He should also be giving a subtle wink to ND for letting them off the hook because their coaching was worse.
