thanks to so much advice from your video as well as Training tall. I picked up a Concept2 rowerg and it has been a game changer for my fitness ! keep up the awesome content !
Took delivery of a Concept2 today. Since the pandemic I’ve put on weight (almost 30lbs) and my bp has gone up. Mainly because I used to play soccer twice a week and that stopped when Covid hit and I need to find a way to get back to fitness. Decided a rower was the best option and thanks to you and Training Tall, I bought the Concept2. Tried it already and I love it. Glad I listened to the advice of the experts and spent out on the real deal.
Shane, these workouts make such a difference in my life. I'm in my 60s, and I think I'll be doing intermediate workouts for a year, maybe more, who knows. Like you say, my goal is to get better, regardless of the label on the video. 😁 Thanks for the guidance on approaching life and training, every bit as much as the rowing!
I’m a huge connected fitness enthusiast with a Peloton Bike, Peloton Tread +, Tonal, and Hydrow Rower. I’ve started doing some of your rows to mix things up a bit on my Hydrow. I just choose a bow or stern view on the Hydrow without an instructor, hang my ipad over the Hydrow screen, and do your rows. I’m really enjoying them, thanks for all that you do.
I came off a magnetic rower and just got my concept 2 -- On my mag rower the "effort" begins at the bottom of the "squat" whereas on Con2 the effort on the legs is at a 70% squat depth -- making it much more of a back workout. Also -- I've been rowing way to hard - jesus. If this is intermediate I've been rowing "advanced" -- No wonder I've been sore all over hahahahaha. I've been rowing 230 intervals with 1min rest at a Level 8 damper and at 34 s/m HAHAHAHAHA. I'm going to calm down and do this -- it's more than enough. I'm too big to come off the machine looking like I'm 90 and needing a ventilator, hahaha. THANKS FOR THIS!!!
How many days a week should I row to tone, strengthen and improve overall endurance? I’m 65 (female) and play Pickleball 4-5 days a week and walk 3-4 miles 3-4 days a week on hilly terrain.
I'm 66 and during the colder months, I row 3 to 4 days at home after doing my calisthenics and weight work (that doesn't include anything I do at CrossFit on the weekend). I try to mix it up, usually doing long or short intervals (like above). Endurance is hard, but doesn't smoke you like the short stuff above. A fave is 7 one minute intervals with 30 seconds rest in between.
15/7/24 after 2 week virus then vertigo a few days and just did first full body weights session in a few weeks (58min..but im slow). 529/555 /563/567. Ah i was better a year sgo. 58yo will try again when 100%. Wonder if i will ever try advanced. Only been trying inter for 4 year's 🏖
Nothing like saving an absolute crusher for the last of Rowvember. Been a great month, might as well finish it with some mental toughness and crushing those quads!
Mission accomplished! Rovember was a great challenge for me...I am so glad I finished it all. Thanks to you for your rowing videos that came before this rovember challenge, that helped me get stronger, feel motivated to keep going ! Your email about managing time was another boost through Thanksgiving day..(my kids and grandkids coming over and a meal to cook) my husband thought I was a bit nuts...but I did not want to miss any challenge you sent out😊💪 that day was the hardest.. But I am so glad to have participated. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing your knowledge. I am new to rowing this year and you made this a lifestyle not just another piece of gym equipment.
Shane and John, thanks for an epic Rowvember! ❤ 💪 😮💨 I loved the mix of workouts and the balance I was able to strike with being able to throw in a few road bike sessions while hitting the daily challenge. Always look forward to 11/1 and now to carry this through the Holiday Challenge! Time for a Four Seasons … give the post Rowvember form a trail.
I’m back! Lost 30lbs prior to COVID rowing with this channel! Then work got busy and gained 30 during Covid and now it’s slowing a bit I need to get that 30 off again!
Awesome workout, thanks Shane. Wanted to get fitter and stronger since the birth of my son, been training with you since September and absolutely love it. Just got my C2 and just started hitting the intermediates. Thanks for making such engaging and motivational content dude 👊
That could very well have been own writing! Loving “working out with Shane”. Best coach I’ve ever had when it comes to engaging me and keeping me going, all the while sounding like a genuinely caring and nice person. Him complimenting our work actually makes my day, corny as it sounds…
Sure I've done this one over a year ago. But last 2 years a blur. Luv it. 546/572/591/604. Happy after a 45m leg workout. 🏖 8/5/23 thanks Shane. Oh so chipper !
Great content man! I'm new to this and just found your channel. I'm really unsure what flywheel to look for in an electric magnetic machine. Heeelp???! Found one of 3kg but unsure if that's too light? Please tag me with a response, if you can. I'd really appreciate
For those of us who just don't have the space inside or outside their homes to accommodate the size of a Concept2 rowing machine could you review the Teeter Power10 Magnetic Rower? It's more compact than the Concept2 and was wondering if it would provide the same health benefits that using a Concept2, or comparable rowing machine does.
Hi Shane, Great workout! I have a question: I know that you’re motto is push don’t pull but I’m 6 feet 5 and have very long arms so I seem to be doing a lot of pulling. Is this typical? Thanks, Jim
Nailed it! 3s faster on each and distance went up. Love these workouts and your explanation of why your data is not show ..... You are so freaking fast!
Shane, I notice you didn't indicate a force/wattage to maintain for this work out, but the focus is the stroke rate. Is it intended that effort be variable whether the legss or arms?
Well I got better every time so yay! Thanks for the workout Shane! I have a hard time holding my intensity for each stroke, this is a great workout to help with that. I’ll be back here next week 😅
I've watched so many videos about rowing and have tried to implement really good form in my strokes. I began Jan 13 23 and have been on the machine 12 times. I started out doing 15 minutes only, but now I did a 10k in 49m42s with a split of 1m57s. Resistance set on 5. I'm 5'10" 179lbs and almost 43yo. Because I'm not locking my knees out I feel like something on the back of my kneecap is going to hurt if I locked my knee out. I have also noticed under my patella hurts when I walk (but it's also coinciding with some wintry weather.). My knees have been different since I began rowing. I'm trying to follow everything, keep my heels down, don't lock the knees. I feel like I'm learning how to row, but also that it's messing with my knees. I'm wearing running shoes while I row.
I see mixed things on the 'heels down'. I don't think raising the heels is any big deal. Most people don't have the dorsiflexion abilities to fully keep heel down. I do think most people need to lower their heels a bit when they row. I lowered my heels on my c2 and immediately felt less 'cramped' and was able to get better leg drive. I wear 9.5 running shoes and keep two holes showing at the top. The best thing for knee pain is backward walking and backward sled pulling (see kneesovertoesguy for more exercises to combat knee pain).
Thanks😅! This is my third workout on my new C2, which I ordered via your link. I was doing your workouts on a smaller rower, and just loved them. I really appreciate you walking thru the steps of setting up the PM5 monitor! I am 62 and still working full time, and needed more energy for busy event season at work (and also for our grandkids.) Rowing has helped so much!
I'm just starting out with your videos. I'm not in shape and 46. How many spm should I be doing and how long should I be rowing? How many meters should I do day and for how many days a week? FYI I have been doing your advanced videos, lol. Thank you.
most of these guys do around 28 spm. There's no limit to meters per day. Some people like doing a moderate pace for 2k, 5k, 10k. Others will do more intensity, maybe doing intervals. I don't row as much as I used to. Sometimes I'll do two 2k rows, with maybe a minute or so in between. Other times I'll set the pm3 for 500m rowing with :30 rest in between, and I'll do 5 or more intervals. I think my butt wants a break after 15 minutes or so, and I could use better hip flexor flexibility and strength. So those also limit how long I'm 'comfortable' rowing.
I think that cover is just thin silicon, looks neat, but not much cushion. He covered it in one of his vids. Tallguy tested some cushions and links to his favorite one (around 37 bucks on amazon).

I always get better results rowing along with you, than by myself. Great workout, thank you Shane
Man great workout, thanks! Would you say getting more meters on this workout overtime would get me a better 2000m time?

Not very often then. Exercise stresses the body. Us older people can't recover quickly.

Ugh, I get vertigo from time to time as well. i know how much that can derail things. :) you'll get there, just grow gradually
Is it just me or you just reused a training clip you did a year ago? 😅 still a good training!
What kind of shoes do you use now for the row erg? What kind of Nike shoes are best for town erg?

Out of all rowing machines you've tried, which one had the best/most comfortable seat?
Assault Air Rower is pretty comfy. 'Training Tall' has a vid or two on comfy cushion seats that fasten onto the C2.

How to avoid back pain while rowing? I tried to follow your beginner’s guide but I am probably still doing something wrong 😢
How's your drive? Are you pushing through your legs, or are you pulling with your arms?
