Excellent ideas... this is how we all become better woodworkers!

It's good you mentioned "Special", because it is "Special" and a bit an "overkill", nothing wrong with it but, of course every one knows (more or less) how to build a "regular" bench hook.
Very informative and well done, thanks.

@blackvloco I had the same thought except that I would think that it would work better to do a shallow, wide dado that the fence section would fit into so that it is level with the rest of the bench hook (or add 1/4 in to the rest of the bench hook so its all at the same height.) It would solve the problem of having the side support not at the same height as the bench hook. I do understand why he likes the extra clearance above the rest of the bench hook though for sawing.

Steve, consider this option, dispense with the thin plate by extending the fences to the edge of the base. You retain the advantage of interchangeable fences and saw guide but you won't scar up the surface because you will be cutting off the edge of the base. You could also put a 45 degree on the other end of the 90 degree fence.

Excellent idea, especially with the mini boxes aswell ! An enhancement could possibly be providing a matching base piece on the mini box, so as to provide a level surface for the piece being cut. The matching base piece could also be doweled so they can be removed to leave a flat surface for other uses of the mini box. Hope that makes sense !! What are your thoughts. Regards. David

Nice video. Very instructive. How did you cut the 45 degree pieces to exactly 45 degrees?
