I realized why I love this channel. It's like the great British baking show, but about gardening. Not one negative vibe in the whole thing. They should give this guy his own show on Netflix all about gardening. Hear that , algorithm?

I’m in south west france and looks like we’re going down to -1 this week We’ve had so much rain that my veg plot is a bit waterlogged. I planted carrots and parsnip seeds a week ago when it was nice, but wouldn’t be surprised if they’re washed away now. We’ll see!😮.

Love your support of the untidy garden.👍🏻 Protects the soil from erosion, supports the insects, and provides hiding area for my free-range hens. Where is Rosie today? We have rose chafers here, and their larvae can be found in the composting pile around this time. I had to learn to differentiate them from Maybug larvae and I'm not good with soft earth creatures, but selected and kept the unharmful rose chafer ones in the pile. The things we do for nature! 😆

You have made such a beautiful garden, and I'm inspired by your huge knowledge. I've got 300 seedlings in my greenhouse, as it's still cold & frozen here. And a disaster, all the seeds I started from one company failed to germinate, they sent them in the winter and didn't package them carefully so they froze, I think. But they're making it right and replacing the seeds and I'm very grateful for that. I'm going to start garlic, whole bulbs, in water so they'll have great roots by May, since none of the fall-planted bulbs came up. Carry on with your fabulous enthusiasm and teaching skills, we are so lucky to have you~~

I see the video as an idea for my next spring since now I have to go through a fall and a winter. In my area, which is humid and has a temperate climate, frosts are not frequent. What I have noticed is that during the summer many leaves of my plants have shown signs of sunburn. I assume that the sun's rays have been very strong during the summer. And that we have many trees...it is dynamic but very enslaving.

Ah yes that first start for the mower. I start mine each time it rains just to blow the rainwater out of the intake; if you dont have cover for your mower rainwater gets into the carb and rusts those delicate parts so just start er up a few seconds seems to be working.

I deliberately grow nettles, docks, dandelions along with the usual suspects like comfrey partly to attract bugs away from plants or to encourage those who prey upon the ones I'd rather not entertain, and partly to make various feeds for the garden/veg plants. I also process various ''weeds'' for my own medicinal use in tinctures, teas, seeds, and ointments. Nettles are especially health boosting in all forms.

Consider embracing nettles. They are a good replacement for spinish/chard.

    Hi Ben.
I see you are letting your mown grass lie where it falls. We harvest ours and even some of our neighbors’. We spread and dry it, then use it for mulch. Need lots of much here in southern US. It gets HOT.
Thanks for all of your great tips and inspirational videos.😊

Yes indeed, most is left to just return to the soil. That way I don't have to feed the lawn. Some gets spread on the vegetable beds as mulch though. I can see how this would be useful where you are! :-)

I have the exact same shirt. Now i need to get my gardening channel super famous so we can twin up in a video. I have successfully made three of the most boring gardening videos in the history of youtube. I swear I'm not boring and can even use real words for things. Apparently no one told my videos that. :)

I’m afraid it will be a few weeks yet before our lawns dry out they have become swamps, it’s not stopped raining here in Cornwall for weeks , so mowing is out and even the raised beds are cold and wet, spring feels weeks away, even my beautiful Helibores have been flattened by the wind and rain and hail of this weekend. It’s all a bit demoralising , even the plants in the greenhouse are not growing much. So I love watching you enthusiasm but sadly can’t get going yet. It’s Sunday third of March and it’s hammering down😟

Found you recently, Ben and am thoroughly enjoying your content, as a newish gardener. I put a carpet of mulched leaves over my raised beds at the end of the season thinking they would have fully integrated into the soil but they seem to still just be sitting atop, despite several sessions of mixing them in. Should I just remove the layer before planting seeds? Put soil on top of it? Something else? Input welcome from other posters bc I know Ben is busyyyyy! (Zone 6, Boston MA, USA)

      @GrowVeg  3 месяца назад

Thanks you for your kind comment. I would just scrape away/remove any undecomposed leaves in order to sow. They can always be returned again as a mulch around plants, once they're a touch more established. :-)

Love the show.why is it that gardening shows from England are the ones that show you how to garden? Ones from America are just big commercials or spend most of the time talking, not teaching.

I know, I know. But it is SO strong and reliable. I don't mow that often (once every three weeks on average) so it's not too bad. But the next mower will be electric. :-)

Ben, love your videos and advice and I try to follow it as much as possible. I am admiring your metal trellises in this video, can you please tell me the brand or supplier? I've tried many types of supports for my cucumbers but they always end up running along the ground and hiding the cukes until they become dirigibles!

Ben, there are many beady eyed pigeons around where I live. I'm hoping to get a few raised beds on the go soon. Said birds would scoff up my vulnerable plants in a jiffy 🙈
Would you mind telling me where you purchase your netting and tunnel structures from please?
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm & knowledge 😊🌿🌱🐞

The netting is just bought by the metre from my local garden centre, and the tunnel structures are made using alkathene pipe by the roll, which I then just cut into hoops - piping like this here: www.amazon.co.uk/Coil-Blue-Water-Mains-Supply/dp/B07KRNBQ4H/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3DUEPI16MHM7Q&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.-nTJLFhLNcvY2fVOdGFBfFt0mpMI-K6SnCDeFYl-Zq-8ANysUztr67TmiCsp9QhS8ZU-8--M9inMDEuGMbu7XjZC8CIYV9LmT9ZWkQEOLf7Dzv3E9WG4rEpBczq_8GiQryJPa9uoocGMziGUhKebIh76xZUyx5LwpOVnkTuppLd-F12UVi3HXXfE1m94WGxYE7FK8GUwIQml6Z040m8_K2QkqSYmA48O6XI1gEpazaGmerP4Feg9RrvTXAIEcgg1BMStaRmI3yD6rdEJhrI3SHlKoServD9gwxqY_kBeQ0U.V1YAQtSbijyuN9JeYJJnBG70w0m1qlC9NYKlPgGW5dg&dib_tag=se&keywords=alkathene+pipe&qid=1709636236&sprefix=alkatene+pipe%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-6
