    i just re-watched this film last week - (spontaneously with a friend who never saw it) - for the first time in AT LEAST ten years - and still loved it. And we were both CRYING at the end. So I guess it still works LOL.

    David here from Sebring Florida and I been a movie buff for over fifty years! I just watched the movie again and I think it’s just a powerful today as it was in 1979. I think it is the kind of movie that has something to offend everyone! Yet it is very well done. I think young people should should see it, so that they know how much has changed and yet has not. If you like movies that are outside the box be sure to watch across the universe, featuring Beatle songs. It would be great if you could review that movie too. See you at the movies 🍿

    Ethan is probably going to go to jail. He should have told Caleb immediately.

    The film has nothing to do with the stage show. They barely have just the title in common. Many songs went out, others were reassigned to different characters, other characters were invented. The plot is entirely different. Claude is a totally different character in the show. And what about the ending? It is Claude who dies in the show, not Berger. The film is totally implausible.

      But how do its differences make it inferior? Isn't the purpose of adaptation to make something new out of the old?

    • @Herod9
      @Herod9 3 года назад +3

      @@OldMoviesforYoungPeople It isn’t. The purpose is not making something new, but creating a version of that thing that works in a different medium, keeping it intact, unless you need to revisit something to make it more powerful. Your creative sensitivity is important, but you can’t destroy the original.
      The ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ movie is a good adaptation. The director added new things, but they build upon the original, which remains there, intact.
      The movie ‘Hair’ throws away everything. When you CHANGE THE PLOT how can you call it an adaptation?

    • @Herod9
      @Herod9 3 года назад +1

      @@OldMoviesforYoungPeople It's inferior also because many of the songs that survived in the movie have no reason to be there. The plot has changed so much that there is no more reason for having them.

      @@hereforit170 Those who search for 'Hair' want a movie version of the musical, and this just is not.
      If you see the movie of 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Evita', 'West Side Story', 'The Phantom Of The Opera', 'Rent', in spite of the changes, you can say that you have seen those musicals.
      If you see the film 'Hair' you have NOT. Plain and simple.
      This movie is a story about hippies and Vietnam with some elements from the musical attached. When you change plot, charachters and ending you have simply made a different thing, not an adaptation.
      James Rado (the co-author) himself said this to me.

      @@hereforit170 And as for being wonderful and working... one must be honest.
      Miloš Forman is a GREAT director. He has done some great masterpieces.
      Every single scene of 'Hair' is well directed, well shot, with a true musical eye and visual inventions to match.
      But the songs don't make any sense. Many of them, having changed the plot around them, have just no need to be there.
      Take 'Manchester', 'Walking In Space' for example, just to name a few.
      But the plot is implausible, and so are the characters and the relationships between them.
      The only way it can work is to draw people to discover the stage show, but that's not the sign of a good movie.

    Not a fan. They had to shorten the play and that took away a lot of the magic. Just my opinion.

    Thank you for this video! I'm in my first year in university, studying animation cinema, yet this movie was suggested by a professor. I knew nothing of Hair but after i watched it i was shaken for days! I've been looking for a video like this! Since the movie is old, really none of my peers have seen it or wanna discuss it haha
