The instruments on the mariachi also aren't native of Mexico, they're European (I don't want to be more specific because this topic is very extense). Jalisco was a very important country in the conquist, so a lot of Spanish people came to live there. This is why a lot of people that were born there have a lot of European facial features (white skin, blue or green eyes, blonde). Due to the clasism in the new world, the indigenous people have no rights to do anything than be slaves more less, so I don't think the have created the genre, but the half blood or noble people. The costumes have the roots on the Spanish culture. Even the word mariachi is suspected to have the origin in the French so...
