btw the red characters in the scroll is seal script version of 聖旨 (imperial decree, lit. "sage will")
in the original novel, Ling Yunche was able to identify the liquid as *tung oil* (genereally used for waterproofing), since the trees were abundant in his hometown

@@yanmingchen5248 I would love to get the book in English . I did not know it was someone sent by Mei that painted the plank with oil . I did hear the loud conversation that Mei had , so the Empress could hear it on purpose ,and became distraught .... thanks
