Always go by the tried and true added 1st year they sleep, second year they creep, 3rd year they leap.Your hydrangeas will come along. Everything is looking lovely!
I think the blue suede shoes salvia is iron deficient. The yellow color is indicative of chlorosis many times. You can add iron tone with plant tone and they should bounce back. I think this crazy weather really impacted a lot of plants for everyone this year. Thank you for sharing your GORGEOUS gardens!
I thought so, too. I keep a bottle of chelated iron on hand to treat these symptoms and they usually resolve within a couple of weeks. And I have acidic soil but apparently there are pockets that are iron deficient for some reason.
Your garden prospers! Lovely blooms, especially the white echinacea with the green centers. My cantaloupe echinacea have puffy hats and bloom prolifically. Hope you don’t have trouble with the smoke from Canadian wildfires. We’ve gotten some in upstate SC and my asthma has responded as you might expect. Stay healthy.
I have lilac yarrow in my garden, which never stop blooming and spread like wildfire. Infact it's the middle of winter and I still have one flowering. I take rooted cuttings and move them around the border. They like to be watered regularly too and full sun to part sun is fine. It will be the soil that's causing failure to bloom. Your "yellow", stunted salvias look like they have chlorosis, which is a lack of iron. I think the ones that are thriving aren't competing with roots. If you want to improve clay soil, add powdered Gypsum to your soil and use a pitchfork to get the Gypsum into your soil. Also adding compost and mixing it in to your soil will really improve perenials and annuals to flower. Hope this is helpful. Jo Love your varieties of echinacea, just such a must have in any garden. Astilbes are another beauty, love both varieties. What if you remove the new growth on your hydrangeas, so that they bloom more? Wow, your dinner plate, watermelon? dahlia is amazing!!!!
Hi Matthew! As always, your gardens are beautiful! I always enjoy the walks with you talking about the different plants. Also, your lawn is looking really good! Thank you so much for sharing!
I'd try moving one of the sick Rockin Salvia to a different spot. Then you'll know if it is the soil or location, or the plant. They are usually such simple growers.
Hi Mathew, Lovely yard I'm in a condo but have a large flower bed 100 ft by 2 ft. My midnight marvel Hardy hibiscus 2nd year it's huge I'm 5ft 10 it's all most to my shoulder. No buds yet. I grew too many petunias from seeds. Some interesting mutations. One petunia 3 different shades of purple and patterns. I think hibiscus is my favorite it has finally rained I'm up north of you.
My astilbes are dying! I'm blaming the high temps, even tho they are in shade. This is their first year. (I'm in Texas, 7b). I'm still watering them in hope they come back next year.
I'm thinking that you're Blue Suede Shoes on the back side of your magnolia are iron deficient. Chelated iron will probably help that a lot. Isn't it funny how we all have those weird things happen with the same plants in the same growing conditions? Things are looking lovely though!
You're oakleaf hydrangea could be a dwarf variety.I have had one for quite a few years and it has slowly grown but won't reach the size of the big ones.I really like it because it fits well in the garden area I have it in.
I loved the Cherry Drop coleus, Bermuda Beach and Red Hawk Sweet Potato vine combo--I think just those 3 alone would make a great container and transition into fall very well. I think the Cherry Drop will be new next year so not on the market yet. Some of these trailing coleus trail more than others. In my hot and humid zone 7B climate, the sweet potato vine and coleus would fight it out for dominance and the petunia would probably be shaded out!
I was glad to see your alliums this is my 1st yr growing them and thought something was wrong with mine because they were curled over. Garden looks good.
Wow - You can grow Lavender. WTH. I'm in Chicago area - surely same weather as you and despite adding sand, pebbles, etc. I just can't with it. I did have one of my PW Sweet Romance come back but I lost a lot. Have you tried Betony? Stachy's 'Hummelo? First year with it for me and what a damn nice performer. One of the scant few untouched by my devastating Bunny invasion also.
Another terrific video! You have such an eye for detail. I was a little disappointed you skipped right over the wonderful red banana- can you give us an update next video, please?
Northern Kentucky here - I had to work several days in the smoke haze. My hibiscus are both getting ready to bloom - about 2-3 weeks earlier than last 3 seasons. Actually lost my Annabelle this spring. My Tuff stuff hydrangeas are looking so beautiful- 2nd season for those. My Dahlias I tore out in the fall but must have missed some tubers because I have several huge stalks /flowers that made thru the winter with no special protection! Go figure?? Everything looks beautiful!!
Another Gardener said if it survived one winter it will be fine.dont have to dig .I covered my trial one with dead annuals and leaves now it's blooming 7b
I see you've been letting the beautiful lawn go. I've been tempted to do the same but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I've done some research on it, and weeds are very sensitive to high nitrogen fertilizers and being spot treated with iron. If you're trying to keep a nice lawn without any more herbicide use, that might be worthwhile to try. I can't believe you have dahlias already. Mine overwintered too in zone 7A and still nothing.
I intentionally added clover last year to fight dog urine spots. Clover isn’t susceptible to dog urine and it’s helped so much. I talked about it in several videos last year.
Just wondering... How is the Hana Matoi Japanese Maple doing that you purchased last year? I've viewed your May and now July garden update but did not see it in either videos, perhaps I've missed it? Your gardens are absolutely beautiful!!
Hi, Matthew! I have yarrow in my clay soil. This is their fifth year. They are 5 ft. tall this year! They’re taking over my garden. I’m pleased, but they really are bullies. Also, this year they’re covered in white flies!😣
I live in Central Ohio and my yarrow is spreading like wildfire. It's even popping 5 foot diameter circles in my lawn. Trying to use Scott's weed and feed to exterminate it in the lawn, but not sure what to use in the flower beds. Any advice?
Your garden is a canvass of artwork! So much love and hard work.
Always go by the tried and true added 1st year they sleep, second year they creep,
3rd year they leap.Your hydrangeas will come along. Everything is looking lovely!
That white perfection echinacea is really unique. Love the green center and the petal form.
Your garden is so beautiful, you did a great job on it !

Ok I’m usually not a fan of coneflowers but I’ll have to keep an eye out for that white perfection it is gorgeous!!
Great tour. I discovered Sun patients this summer & planted 2 in a container. They are very happy & been blooming like made.
Thank you Mathew, your garden is lovely.🌸💚🙃
Hi Matthew! As always, your gardens are beautiful! I always enjoy the walks with you talking about the different plants. Also, your lawn is looking really good! Thank you so much for sharing!
I'm glad you mentioned the " blue suede shoes " , I have to agree, mine has done nothing, usually huge by now .??? Hmmm 🤔
I would trim the tops of your front porch coleus, and they won't get as tall, but will bush out. Love all your flowers and have enjoyed your videos!
Loved the tour. I think those yellowing salvia need Kaelated iron. 🌸🌺 sending positive vibes from your Hamilton ON neighbour 🇨🇦
Although you are not thrilled with the cherry drop coleus, the combination of that with the Bermuda Beach works really well together. Very pretty!
I have never had luck with sun patients unless I plant in the shade in the south
This is a great video. Yesterday, I purchased a PW 's LET'S DANCE CAN DO hydrangea.
I love your Incrediball hedge Matthew! Now I need to smell my Incrediball hydrangeas! 😂 Puffer Fish also has an amazing scent!
That smoke gives ya a headache! I’m in NEPA and I feel ya!
I just LOVE your garden/gardens.! ❤
Looks so nice! Thanks for sharing 🥰

What variety arbs are planted in between the incrediballs? Love that combo, beautifully done.
Thanks for the tour ! Beautiful !
Lovely everywhere you turn!

Your sunpatiens are looking good, just keep them moist, once they start blooming they will not stop until fall.
I'm thinking that you're Blue Suede Shoes on the back side of your magnolia are iron deficient. Chelated iron will probably help that a lot. Isn't it funny how we all have those weird things happen with the same plants in the same growing conditions? Things are looking lovely though!

That’s common with all alliums right before they bloom. :)
Beautiful 🍃🌸🍃

Iron. Try iron on those yellow salvia. ❤

13:29 what are the small round shrubs? Love em…is it a tater tot or something like that?
Try chelated iron on the salvia

You should get some deer they are pruning my roses
New to your channel. What type of arborvitae’s are those in your Incrediball hedge?
New subscription here, but do I see your house for sale? I’m so shocked as all the work you put in this gorgeous garden!
Good eye. See my video today.
