I was nominally Catholic due to my mother, but we rarely attended church. My mom broke with the church in the mid-60s due to their position on both control. My mom had 7 pregnancies and 5 children in less than 10 years of marriage. She was done.
Thanks for sharing your story. I left Christianity for a similar reason-the discovery that I was gay, and knowing there wasn’t anything wrong with that. It led me to examine ALL the religious beliefs with which I’d been indoctrinated, over many decades, and eventually my theism evaporated around age 58. I am enjoying your channel!
"Everybody's journey is personal and different. And my journey is not the same as your's" Very true words. I'm still struggeling leaving the catholic church. Less taxes, more income (germany). The lowest part of this constutution is -IMHO- the local community inside the catholic church. They're not anti-gay and they're doin' good things for disadvantaged people. Well, I still don't know. I don't like the catholic institution itself. But: the institution sometimes does not reflect the basis. Hmmm... have I wrote these words kinda "okay"?
My suggestion is to think of institution, such as The Catholic church, not for the good things they may do for others, or that they do generally, but how they impact on YOU, and other LGBTQ people. I tried to remain Catholic... for decades, I tried to work with the church to get it to modernize its views on homosexuality, but it refused. Those views reject the LGBTQ community, and they harm it, and, that rejection also promotes violence against us. At a certain point, I determined that I can not support any church or institution that reject me and all LGBTQ people. So I do not consider any "good" the Church does for SOME people. It is hurting so many LGBTQ people. So I officially left. WOW! what a heavy weight lifted from my shoulders! Trying to be what others want me to be is so an impossible task. So glad to leave that baggage behind and live my life as a simple good people.
