I also read somewhere, that Spectrum Sports, at least locally, was actually operated by the owners of WCCO. When Spectrum folded, the sports operation migrated to cable, first as "WCCO II", then MSC.
You must be from Chicago. I was surprised when I found a clip of Spectrum from Chicago earlier. I always thought before that Spectrum was a local service in the Twin Cities. The ID in this clip must have been customized for this market, since it shows the Minneapolis and St. Paul skylines.
Sorry, I was replying to yogafan6500. "We too lost Spectrum" implies that he's from Chicago, the other city that had it. This station had quite an interesting history, going from carrying a service that showed uncensored movies, including porn, to a religious-oriented channel with squeaky-clean programming in just a few years. Not to mention MST3K. One could write a book about it.
@Schush Thank you so much for commenting on this video. I'm sorry, but I don't think I can assist you on your quest. If I remember correctly, my father (who had both ONTV and Spectrum never had to "trade" or switch anything for the 2 stations. What "numerous ON-TV Stuff" have you discovered? I'm DESPERATELY looking for ANY ONTV material!
I've been *trying* to collect pay tv memorabilia for the last 2 years - specifically the Chicagoland items. Does anybody recall if you had to trade your box in for an On-Tv one? Any pics of the box or the guides themselves... its absolutely devoid on the net! Must say I found numerous On-Tv stuff but NOTHING on Spectrum!
Wildcock23 At 0:55 They Changed Over SelecTV Just Because Spectrum Had The Last Magazine. Speaking Of That, Have You Ever Brought The Last Magazine From The Mail Back In The Day? BTW, How Many Sign Offs On These Tapes Do You Have? Speak Up And You Won't Forget About The Comments!
The younger generation don't know, but back then television was epic

A perfect transition to one of my favorite Pay TV service, "SelecTV"!
I doubt it man - I've scoured RUclips and other sources for SPECTRUM and ONTV stuff for DECADES and the material is quite scarce...
cool synthesizer tune

Unfortunately no.
I have seen a ON-TV bob that was incorporated w/ Sportvision option - very cool!
That Minneapolis/St. Paul accent...
From what I understand they merged in summer of '85...... the history of the station is so vague
@Schush I have all ONTV guides from 1983-1985 too... but do you have any promo material or clips from ONTV?
@Wildcock23
I have the box itself and about 12 program guides....
Did SelecTV merge with Spectrum at some point?
Kinda surprised that we still don't know the synth tune from 0:55 onward
I'm *certain* that was ripped off from some stock piece of music that's probably already on youtube as I type, but I just don't know its name.
Charter's brought the name back in 2016!
Your right
I meant to say box! Doh!
