The tree stands bare in the living room
From December first til our daughter makes it home
Our oldest son’s a workin’ man but it won’t be long til he walks through the door
Baby girl’s not home this year but we made sure to send her lots of love
Our youngest two are fighting over Christmas lights and half a box of bulbs

Cookies bakin’ in the oven

My wife is wrappin’ Christmas gifts at two AM on our bedroom floor
The kids should all be sleepin’ but my son’s out in the hallway ear to door
The baby woke up screamin’ and her sister somehow heard it through my snores
While our oldest son sleeps soundly, that boy could sleep through a thousand slammin’ doors

It’s nine PM on Christmas eve and the kids lay milk and cookies by the tree
We’ve all eaten really good and we’ve found a Christmas movie on TV
When this show is over we will bow our heads in prayer and go to sleep
