- The last moments of Virgin Radio France, which became Europe 2 (once again) on 01/01/2023 at midnight, recorded on the FM frequency of Lyon (100.3), 10km away from the transmitter, received on an Airspy HF+ Discovery (SDR) via the SDR# software.
The history of Virgin Radio lasted 15 years in France. It started on 01/01/2008, after the closure of the "first version" of Europe 2.

Thanks for uploading it! Sorry I couldn't hear it live but I was heading to my grandma's house at that moment to celebrate New Year. But there's something I don't get clear, will Europe 2 remain its format as did before as Virgin Radio?
You're welcome. Actually, the Lagardère Group decided to relaunch Europe 2 (15 years later) because they didn't want to continue to give money to Richard Branson in order to use the Virgin license + there's a wish to regain listeners from 25 to 49 years old.
The style of the new Europe 2 looks like the former one in a way, more Pop/Rock classics than on Virgin Radio but they continue to broadcast current Pop tracks as on Virgin Radio.
If you use Discord, I can send you a longer recording with the last hour of Virgin Radio and the first minutes of Europe 2 (it lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes)... In this case, just mention your username and I will contact you.

étant honnête changer le titre juste pour l'argent je trouve ça un peu nul, et leur nouveau logo est complètement moche je trouve ! je préfère le logo de 2005-2008. mais bon, faut s'y faire au changement. bonne année aussi !
Ce n'est pas qu'une question d'argent mais une tentative de sauvetage de la station. D'un côté, le groupe Lagardère ne souhaitait plus verser de l'argent à Richard Branson pour l'utilisation de la licence Virgin, et d'un autre, les audiences de Virgin étaient au plus bas depuis quelques années. Et ça ne s'arrangeait pas avec le temps...
Virgin visait un public plus jeune qu'Europe 2, sauf que ce public "plus jeune" se fait de plus en plus rare maintenant, car les habitudes d'écoute changent. Beaucoup de jeunes délaissent la radio traditionnelle pour se tourner vers les plateformes de streaming, etc... Pas tous évidemment, j'en suis la preuve vivante. :)
La stratégie du groupe Lagardère, avec ce retour d'Europe 2, est de (re)conquérir un public plus âgé (25-49 ans) qui a moins tendance à délaisser la radio traditionnelle contrairement aux plus jeunes.
Pour ce qui est du logo, les avis sont partagés. Personnellement, je le trouve très original. C'est une question de goût. ;)

@@TransistorFR Ça me fait penser à une radio locale que je ne vais pas citer, mais qui dans ses demandes de financement met toujours en avant que la radio est un média pour les jeunes et que ça permet de les retenir sur le territoire. Sauf que la plupart des jeunes en question n'écoutent pas cette radio, voire n'ont jamais eu de poste radio.

@@weizkule Sans tutoiement s'il vous plait. Non cette radio est en région Centre, pas à Nantes, mais il est fort possible que ce même phénomène se retrouve un peu partout. Après ce n'est qu'un argument pour obtenir des financements ou pour l'obtention de la fréquence. Personne ne s'inquiète si la radio fait moins de 2% d'audience et est pilotée par ordinateur. D'ailleurs dans leurs bonne intentions il est écrit que ce ne sera pas un robinet à musique, or c'est exactement un robinet à musique.
C’est vrai vous avez raison même si j’adore Virgin radio
