Join Joe Satriani in an exclusive interview and guitar lesson on his latest record Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards. This lesson continues only at guitarworld.com
Joe Satriani: incredible, talented, creative, humble. Happy that met him personally... you always recognize his music style!! And year by year, I love to see he has more and more to tell us and never expires musically.
I feel bad for joe seeing that his mother passed around the same time he was recording this album. with all of that sadness im amazed that he could pull together black swans and wormhole wizards. One of the songs was dedicated to her I believe..... Joe I feel for you brother....
funny, if you are going to do an interview that's great. but to see him on a video for 7 minutes holding a guitar that he isn't ripping into is torture!!
@dimeowns100 Yes he did. Check out Strange Beautiful Music - his album from 2002, I believe. You can also check out "Searching" - a song from "Is There Love In Space" album.
@Shadow07Warrior1989 the switch is for the sustainer [neck pickup driver coil] it creates infinate sustain, check out some youtube vids for more on sustainer guitars
Does anybody know what that tiny little switch is below the tone nob? There's the pick-up selector below and in between them but there's another tiny little liver switch just below the tone nob. Ideas?
Nice! Thanks. Sorry about making you prove it but I'm a pretty skeptical person and I question everything that is said to me out of habit. Most people I talk to I can tell don't know what they are talking about so I always ask if they can prove what they say, and most of them can't.
@UltimateDud I didnt say anything about how that specific incident effected/impacted the emotional aspect of his playing on this album......... Satch puts in all of the emotion he can give in all of his songs since his first album; why should this be any different? If so, it should have more of a sad undertone to it with more emotion in his playing because of what happened. Re-read the comment. I said that im amazed that he could pull this album together despite his tremendous loss.
what are those monitors he is using? HUGE! love em... also what version of mbox is he using? some kind of protools on top of the desk, 3 stacked on the desk?
@danbenkert oh ok, in that case yes! I wish there was more video of him acually teaching rather than PR. Yep he plays with marshall JVM series 410 I think but tweaked and modded so can we really call it a marshall JVM? who knows but i seen him play 3 times in the UK the last was thye wormhole wizzard tour and he was using marshall and it sounded just as good. Keep up the playing dude.
@jemjoesatch Ive played guitar since the age of 14 . I'm now 39. I know this was a few months back and yes I was hoping to see him jam right close and up front so I was naturally disappointed. So yes I will say I may had been wrong in what I said but you have to understand I love Joe I think hes one of the greatest guitar players ever. I have seen many other vids where he talks about gear. Speaking of GEAR I noticed he;s playing Marshall again. A fall out with Peavey? Anyone know the answer?

Is that a Lace pickup on the neck position of his guitar? I thought that he's using DiMarzios :/
@jemjoesatch Yes Vai is different then Joe. I noticed one thing about Vai is he has long skinny fingers making his shredding abilities incredible. One thing I dont like about Steve is he can be playing the most beautiful solo and then ruin it with some weird whammy bar or strange technique? I will have to say I was blown away at the Live version of "Wish You Were Here" By Vai on youtube at G3. He uses a JEM with 3 necks one has no frets. Its so beautiful. I prefer Satch though both are Great!!
@jemjoesatch Yeah man I have found some incredible patches thru my Line6PODXt. Im shocked how accurate the patches are peple make and I simply download the patch and man is it spot on. And one of my guitars a Parker Fly is sporting a High Gain Dimarzio Pick up at the bridge and man some of the runs I do sound like Satch to the point that a big smile lights up on my face. LOL. Yeah man I apologizing to anyone who thinks I was downing Joe S. Hes the greatest player, Hey whats ur thoughts on Vai?
@PietroRumenta it's the sound he likes, and the sound that makes it satch. if he were to use a strat it wouldn't be his sound. and he wouldn't find his voice in it. or thats what I've understood from all his interviews....
@gsxrguitar Hmm, I didn't think he used sustainers. Interesting. Typically when he goes for long notes he just uses feedback from the amp and such. Cool though.
@danbenkert Vai is amazing, i went through a phase of prefering vai for a while till i realised, that i prefer satrianis melodies over vais technical ability. But I am not a fan of Paul Gilbert! melody less playing IMO.
Joe is certainely one of the coolest guy I've ever seen out there. So humble, talented and passionate by the music, he's just amazing in every way.

funny, if you are going to do an interview that's great. but to see him on a video for 7 minutes holding a guitar that he isn't ripping into is torture!!

@TrippyTro

@achemachew its not a floyd rose per say, but ibanezes version of it.
@Ningirsutyr It's a Sustainiac Pro pickup
@Shadow07Warrior1989 the switch is for the sustainer [neck pickup driver coil] it creates infinate sustain, check out some youtube vids for more on sustainer guitars

He's so damn humble. If I could play the guitar like him, I'd be a pretentious jerk-off :)
@RobinAngelini On guitarworld site ... As explained in the description.

@mikefont69 That's not the one made by Fernandes, right?
@danbenkert oh ok, in that case yes! I wish there was more video of him acually teaching rather than PR. it changes the pickup from normal to sustainer
@jemjoesatch Yes Vai is different then Joe. I noticed one thing about Vai is he has long skinny fingers making his shredding abilities incredible. @RobinAngelini "This lesson continues only at guitarworld. com"
thumbs up if ur looking down here (at the comments) because ur waiting till he starts playing!!!
What's that neck pickup? A new experimental one?
@AcousticBeaver Omg i though so too!
@Shadow07Warrior1989 mostly likely a coil split.
what pickup is that one on the neck??? someone knows??
@jemjoesatch Yeah man I have found some incredible patches thru my Line6PODXt. Im shocked how accurate the patches are peple make and I simply download the patch and man is it spot on. @PietroRumenta it's the sound he likes, and the sound that makes it satch. if he were to use a strat it wouldn't be his sound. and he wouldn't find his voice in it. or thats what I've understood from all his interviews....

@jakeboynz Yup. I love my eleven rack.
Who else noticed the Eleven Rack, bottom left corner???
@gsxrguitar Hmm, I didn't think he used sustainers. Interesting. Typically when he goes for long notes he just uses feedback from the amp and such. Cool though.
@danbenkert Vai is amazing, i went through a phase of prefering vai for a while till i realised, that i prefer satrianis melodies over vais technical ability. But I am not a fan of Paul Gilbert! melody less playing IMO.
