I enjoyed this. Two things I would do differently. Instead of "Give me cup," I would say "Give me the cup." I would model the proper language. Also, I don't like saying, "Good boy!" it sounds like she's praising a dog. I prefer "Good job!" or "Nice work!"
I see what you are saying, but I have to disagree. Many early learners on the autism spectrum have difficulty discriminating vocal instructions. When you say "Hey there, can you please put the cup in my hand?" that is a TON of vocal stimuli to decipher. What is the important component of the instruction? "Hey"? "can"? "put"? In the initial stages, I would just use the relevant vocal stimulus in a receptive identification program. "Cup". That's it. Doesn't matter if he picks it up, touches it, whatever. I am looking at the behavior of receptive identification of the cup, "cup" is the most relevant vocal stimulus.
Is this an inclusive classroom and the child with ABA is pulled aside within the classroom to receive therapy or is this an ABA classroom and this is Dawson's teacher period?
Why would the therapist put her hands on the sides of his head to force eye contact from him. He should be allowed to let his eyes to wander from time to time
