100% agree. It feels like the devs have killed pvp. With all their changes. It’s too hard for casuals to get into now. Way too many rules. No house pvp happens anymore. No practice 4v4s. No tourneys, 1v1 is dying. Low population compared to the past. They need to revert or course correct. Raids are also annoying too. I miss dungeons like Tartarus water works and darkmoor.
I agree 100% this game doesn't feel magical anymore. There are so many game companies out there that do listen to the community and at times they do add the features they want. But I feel like Kingsisle just doesn't listen to us at all. I will still play wizard101 for nostalgia but I'm not happy with the current state it is in right now.
They ruined PVP, ruined Loremaster and added spellments, ruined Ice (my main), arc 4 is the worst thing ever made, haven't removed the fricking pay wall, on top of that an extremely greedy company, other content creators like BlazeLifeHammer have already quit/taken breaks, and then they add this stupid dungeon. I seriously think this game is gonna die out soon.

I feel you. I saw a guide for the nightmare dungeon online, and the fact that I had to scrolllll through that thing made me officially nope out of even trying. I'm just a casual player that wants a fun lil game experience, and I'm willing to pay money, but I don't have the time, energy, or desire to learn a play style that just doesn't feel like Wiz to me
All of those points are things I agree with. I still love the game and find it exciting (as someone who doesn't care about PVP). I've actually really enjoyed Arc 4. I thought that story-wise it was fascinating. That said, there's still so many fixes to be made to make this game as good as it can be. All of James the Ace's and your points need to be addressed!
The new nightmare dungeon seemed like (to me at least, after spending hours) like they purposefully made it near-impossible at first just so people will end up spending crowns on the upcoming world packs to get the gear. There's no way they expect people to do that 25 times, it feels like they made it like that on purpose so people will just buy the packs.
I had it as a kind of personal tradition to play wizard101 a few months a year, usually in the fall or winter months. Last year, I really just could not bring myself to play, and I dont see myself returning this year. The game I loved as a kid is a festering husk of what it used to be; a pile of missed potential. It just really breaks my heart to see it in it's current state.
This is exactly what I always did, once a year my cousin and I renew our memberships for a month or two and play together, but now it just doesn't feel the same
Imo, Between darkmoor and Mirage wiz was soooo hype! Probably my favorite updates for the graphical and questline updates in Wiz city, and I long for more of that! But now, I feel that they are focusing too much on what the thread said and not what people actually want and it's really frustrating to see. I guess the best thing we can do is just keep being vocal

i don't play wizard101 anymore and in general i don't think i should go back to it. i think this time right now would probably be better spent with family......at least during these times
i'm honestly bummed out about the fact that i lost motivation to play wiz on a daily basis and the new dungeon was one of my main reasons, especially since they unleashed standard mode i started to lose motivation to play this game since wallaru was released - I wholeheartedly agree to what that guy said in his tweets!!
Most stuff might be sensible but tbh I don't dive into the arguments of PVP simply because everyone wants THEIR main to be the strongest, their not gonna look at it from an outside view. These classes are all meant to be played in a certain way, at least that was the original intent and yet last time I did PVP, everything was just being played the same way, fight for bubble, blade, maybe shield, and then attack, it gets kinda boring. On top of that the mount and pet thing is completely stupid, in no way is that actually needed.

I agree cuz i love playing wiz for so long and its not the same anymore that the KI Devs should add pvp for everyone to play and have fun for low and high level players to join and have fun. But it is not the same anymore when they remove practice pvp 😢
i just wish they’d stop breaking their game with trying to implement something to keep players busy. wiz doesn’t feel the same. i’m on a TOONTOWN grind, and i barely play toontown cc. the community is also super divided lately about who complains the most, which shouldn’t matter. there’s no competition for “who complains the most” seriously. the game just feels lackluster to me now. i didn’t want dasein, i wanted the option for my wiz to join the cabal, and a deeper dive into the loose ends.
They definitely lost their way with the dreamwater collection in the maze; just endless busy work. The fights are fine and doable, but not too easy. The most frustrating and disheartening thing is, that we all know, they'll make it easier after enough people complain and then the early players were just screwed because we had to put up with it. I want a badge "test monkey" for that😢😢😢
Just got back into Wiz after over 3 years of not playing stopped in khrysalis. I found your insta on my fyp and got nostalgic. So I grinded out 170 and I don’t feel satisfied at all. There just so much high level end game stuff that doesn’t feel inviting at all. I had a garden when I stopped and I’m dipping my feet into collecting all the obtainable pets. But ya I don’t get the same feeling I had anymore. Feels disconnected from the audience it should be targeting. I started playing in 2008.
unpopular opinion: pvp is the most fun it's ever been, I enjoy that there's actually comboing between cards instead of just blade, shield, stun. There's a lot more thought put into it, creating a much higher skill ceiling
I have 0 interest doing the new dungeon. I watched other people play the challenge mode and it looked retarded. I just want decent looking gear to wear and a color wheel in the dye shop. Is that too much to ask?!
I haven't played Wallaru yet, but I am caught up besides that and I think what James said is pretty spot on. As a casual player who really only does PvE, it feels like the side things that you could do as a non-PvP (or even non-Beastmoon now) player have shrunk to the point of non-existence. What happened to the house games? What happened to pet racing? At the very least housing games like wildfire tag were extremely popular when Wiz was at its height (around Azteca-Khrysalis releases) and the devs have done nothing to encourage them to rekindle. Side worlds have basically been non-existent since Aquila (I don't necessarily count Darkmoor). It feels like if you aren't playing the game consistently, there's really no interest in you as a player. That needs to be fixed to get the 'magic' back.
Completely agree with all the points made.. i don't even think i'm gonna attempt the nightmare standard mode as just looking at the guide made me completely overwhelmed 😭 it seriously sucks that they're tuning the game for the 10% (if not less) of their playerbase and not the general audience

It’s not even just the content being hard. It’s their challenge mode and advanced content that hardly anyone likes. I love to solo hard bosses but I don’t even touch the challenge mode because all the rules and stat caps are just not fun. The direction they are going is wrong.
It’s not that they make it harder, it’s the fact they are trying to push raid system into dungeons. The biggest issue when raids was released was that not every player would have access to it. Requires guilds, requires multiple players putting effort into the guild, requires coordination. Frankly a lot of people don’t want to do it so when they added it to a dungeon a lot of people were pissed & people like me don’t even want to do it. Adding a damage cap made it that you don’t even have to farm nightmare since the stat changes are literally nothing. It’s one of the worst updates the devs have done in a long time

the new worlds are a slog. ive gotten reported for not doing the "ideal" strategies when farming for gear and farming the gear is not fun anymore. i always looked forward to getting level 60 so i could upgrade and quest by myself with this gear. but you cant even do that anymore without getting super annoyed. i loved low level pvp. i had 5 warlords for low level that i grinded for gear and spells on. now it's all useless. everything i had fun with is gone. and i quit earlier this year.
I think that what this game needs is a larger players base, I miss people running around and queuing for dungeons (like they were literally lines). I still remember Triton Avenue being full of players and even some parts of the worlds that you thought would be empty, but people were actually everywhere. They need to work on how to attract new players to this game, be it by making the first arc free, but in my opinion they would have to do more than that. You don't see much adds for the game anymore and almost anything is available for crowns, even the dungeon chests are a bad idea, I think that repeating one dungeon and finally getting that gear would be more rewarding than just paying for it. This game still brings me back to the good old days when I used to play it day and night with my brother and will always have a special place in my heart. I tried many times to play the game from lvl 1 (even with my brother) but it's really sad to see empty worlds even in crowded servers ... This needs to change and it would if the game was actually "free to play" (people would eitherway spend money on mounts and other things from the crown shop and with the inflow of new players it would probably compensate the cancellation of the subscription feature).
They flushed their entire game down the toilet. It's absolute shit now. When something dies there is typically no way to bring it back. Consider Wizard101 dead.
I quit this week and cancelled my membership even though i still certain aspects of the game.They dont care about making content fun or please the community,they care about making a lot of money and i cant tolarate the greed.I think its too late to expect better from the devs when they themselved dont care about good content.
In some ways, I feel for the devs because they are so wedded to the idea that PVP is what keeps players around between worlds. Maybe it does. Maybe the pvp players are the ones that spend on packs and energy elixirs for pet training. However, as a non PvP player, I have spent an embarrassingly large amount of real world cash and will most likely continue, so long as new houses come out.
Couldn’t agree more with your points faeriequeen. This game will always hold that nostalgia and a certain piece to us being like our entire childhood and from being an OG from 2009 even, but the fun and exciting moments for it just aren’t there much anymore it seems. I’m sure we can all agree that it’s nowhere close to what it was back in the good ol’ nostalgia days.
There are so many new cool games coming out and we still play this game because it's nostalgic. I think they need a better game master. Right now, the community is pointing out the flaws of the game like they should do this and they shouldn't do that. Instead of being amazed of how beautifully they add new things after each patch.
This game was my childhood, I played until lvl 120 was the cap, but it felt like i was constantly doing an uphill battle in pvp cuz i was storm. Having no dots (except treasure/pets) made shield spammers such a pain. I had no real issues with the pve back then and i had a brief time playing when they made pvp be 1 turn at a time instead of how it was back then. I really wanted to get back into the game but it's a shame to see where it's at right now. Edit: The devs also ignored the community as a whole back then, and after begging for better balancing of the schools in pvp, we got fish and new housing items...i guess
I agree 100%. The magic is gone. I dont feel amy connection to the game i once had, it feels foreign and toxic. Even Pirate101 too - the Sinbad foreign is so sloppy that it makes me wonder why i even went through it in the first place - the only "new" content in it are the sinbad model and trash gear. They didnt even make maps for the new dungeons and program team up! Its just really sad. I really do miss the 2014 era, when it was legit fun and tower of moo manchu was the dungeon to raid. I doubt it'll ever be the same again, but maybe some day we'll get the private server we deserve.
I don't even feel like finishing Walaru on my main wizard. All I do is garden couch potatoes for empower TC and work on my castle tour. Oh, sometimes I fish because there is a mount I want to craft.
(Long comment my opinion please dont hate) They should have 2 modes for like questing i get a lot of us are high (or maxed) level now but some of these “hard” bosses are just plan out to hard, unless your a hardcore wiz head then that would be easy, but if your dumb like me and have no idea how you have a maxed wiz i feel like an easy quest mode and a hard quest mode would be fun. And yeh this new nightmare dungeon just made me regret renewing my membership i legit tried to got mad and cancelled it.. Stitching for gold would be honestly amazing and pet stitching YES PLEASE. They should honestly listen to people more and not just hardcore wiz heads whom want everything super hard. It sucks the fun out of it… if they want something hard they should do raids or meatmoon. I get why they want things “harder” but making these harder just sucks the fun out of it. Makes questing feel like a chore then anything else. Doesnt make it fun at all. And it seems to me they only listen to peoppe whom beg for everything to be harder yet they wont listen to everyone else. Please note this is my opinion and mine alone. Also- Even though i have mixed thoughts about making wiz free- they need to do more for the free to play players make the first arc free or make it a way where they or we can get to other worlds.. Wiz says “free to play” which in a way is false advertisement.. I get why they have it where you gotta pay to play. In order to keep the game running but at this point its just annoying.
I played Wiz since 2010 and found the environment so toxic I let my membership lapse. I spent a lot of time fixing up my houses and gardening rather than playing. I was on the upper levels with three wizards.

You probably remember incorrectly. I recall mostly playing Wizard101 during 2015-2019 and it was always pay to play. Even back in 2012 there was a membership requirement. You could probably acquire max lv 13 with no membership.
They're game is currently shit just like their customer support. I recently logged on after 5+ years just to see how it was doing and experienced extreme lag and crashing whenever I opened krokotopia and they pretty much said they didn't care. No offense they deserve their game to die. It looks like a joke now.
I logged on yesterday for the first time in 5+ years as I randomly remembered the game. At first I was excited to play my favorite childhood game but unaware of all the drastic changes that were made. I would say that I played (not consistently) from around 2015-2019. I was disappointed to see the new Wizard 101. 2018 was still fun and enjoyable. And honestly till 2019. Unfortunately, 2020 is when it all went downhill. I noticed yesterday that the servers all appeared empty. I remember the commons (and honestly everywhere) being packed back in the days. People would just go there to socialize and hangout. Everywhere was empty. I miss the old sound tracks especially the original battle music, golem court, and ravenwood. They got rid of all of it. I usually don’t say this about many games however, Wizard101 had a magical spark that I’ve never experienced with any other game before. I would be able to play for many years without getting bored of it. Now that spark is gone. The game has now become a sad, empty, and dead joke. It went from a to z within the blink of an eye. These are just my thoughts on the games current situation. There is no coming back from this joke. It’s completely dead. Why did KI destroy their own game? It’s actually hilarious. They just woke up one day and decided to make all those drastic changes.
I miss wiz when Azteca was the new world…. With my stitched waterworks gear and where having pet with spell proof and defy with some damage was the peak pet. And my Lifeforce blade!!! Everything about wiz has gotten too impossible and sour.

Tbh I dont think i'll ever enjoy w101 again, the first arc was the best story, the 2nd arc was also great tho with avalon, khrysalis. After that the story just spiraled off and i lost interest, i tried to play the other day and just got stuck on bosses with cheats and instead of trying to grind them i just gave up, the game lost its spark for me.

If people really want KI to listen , stop buying crowns and investing in them financially, it's usually in a gaming company's best interest to listen to players when there is financial risk involved. Unfortunately, people are addicted to spending crowns on this game it's kind of fascinating.
You keep talking about the content back in 2015, I remember when housing did not exist, and people were farming the kraken in triton avenue. I remember the pirate cap “helm of stormzilla.” It is crazy the amount of content they have placed in it now is insane. Why can’t be just people happy with what they have and stop complaining? I played this when it wasn’t even well known and I STILL enjoy it till this day.
I went and installed it yesterday and now is looking through vids to see if it is worth to get the membership I enjoy games with dungeons and magic so I am super curious if its worth getting

It’s not even just the content being hard. It’s their challenge mode and advanced content that hardly anyone likes. I love to solo hard bosses but I don’t even touch the challenge mode because all the rules and stat caps are just not fun. The direction they are going is wrong.
It’s not that they make it harder, it’s the fact they are trying to push raid system into dungeons. The biggest issue when raids was released was that not every player would have access to it. Requires guilds, requires multiple players putting effort into the guild, requires coordination. Frankly a lot of people don’t want to do it so when they added it to a dungeon a lot of people were pissed & people like me don’t even want to do it. Adding a damage cap made it that you don’t even have to farm nightmare since the stat changes are literally nothing. It’s one of the worst updates the devs have done in a long time

the new worlds are a slog. ive gotten reported for not doing the "ideal" strategies when farming for gear and farming the gear is not fun anymore. i always looked forward to getting level 60 so i could upgrade and quest by myself with this gear. but you cant even do that anymore without getting super annoyed. i loved low level pvp. i had 5 warlords for low level that i grinded for gear and spells on. now it's all useless.
everything i had fun with is gone. and i quit earlier this year.
As A 2009 player i can tell you this game went from 2009-2018 was the peak
I think that what this game needs is a larger players base, I miss people running around and queuing for dungeons (like they were literally lines). I still remember Triton Avenue being full of players and even some parts of the worlds that you thought would be empty, but people were actually everywhere. They need to work on how to attract new players to this game, be it by making the first arc free, but in my opinion they would have to do more than that. You don't see much adds for the game anymore and almost anything is available for crowns, even the dungeon chests are a bad idea, I think that repeating one dungeon and finally getting that gear would be more rewarding than just paying for it. This game still brings me back to the good old days when I used to play it day and night with my brother and will always have a special place in my heart. I tried many times to play the game from lvl 1 (even with my brother) but it's really sad to see empty worlds even in crowded servers ... This needs to change and it would if the game was actually "free to play" (people would eitherway spend money on mounts and other things from the crown shop and with the inflow of new players it would probably compensate the cancellation of the subscription feature).

I quit this week and cancelled my membership even though i still certain aspects of the game.They dont care about making content fun or please the community,they care about making a lot of money and i cant tolarate the greed.I think its too late to expect better from the devs when they themselved dont care about good content.
In some ways, I feel for the devs because they are so wedded to the idea that PVP is what keeps players around between worlds. Maybe it does. Maybe the pvp players are the ones that spend on packs and energy elixirs for pet training. However, as a non PvP player, I have spent an embarrassingly large amount of real world cash and will most likely continue, so long as new houses come out.
Couldn’t agree more with your points faeriequeen. This game will always hold that nostalgia and a certain piece to us being like our entire childhood and from being an OG from 2009 even, but the fun and exciting moments for it just aren’t there much anymore it seems. I’m sure we can all agree that it’s nowhere close to what it was back in the good ol’ nostalgia days.
There are so many new cool games coming out and we still play this game because it's nostalgic. I think they need a better game master. Right now, the community is pointing out the flaws of the game like they should do this and they shouldn't do that. Instead of being amazed of how beautifully they add new things after each patch.

This game was my childhood, I played until lvl 120 was the cap, but it felt like i was constantly doing an uphill battle in pvp cuz i was storm. Having no dots (except treasure/pets) made shield spammers such a pain. I had no real issues with the pve back then and i had a brief time playing when they made pvp be 1 turn at a time instead of how it was back then. I really wanted to get back into the game but it's a shame to see where it's at right now.
Edit: The devs also ignored the community as a whole back then, and after begging for better balancing of the schools in pvp, we got fish and new housing items...i guess

I agree 100%. The magic is gone. I dont feel amy connection to the game i once had, it feels foreign and toxic. Even Pirate101 too - the Sinbad foreign is so sloppy that it makes me wonder why i even went through it in the first place - the only "new" content in it are the sinbad model and trash gear. They didnt even make maps for the new dungeons and program team up! Its just really sad. I really do miss the 2014 era, when it was legit fun and tower of moo manchu was the dungeon to raid. I doubt it'll ever be the same again, but maybe some day we'll get the private server we deserve.
I just came back, lvl 46 ice wizard. I'm enjoying it and I hate to see this game die. Was my childhood game. Hopefully things change

They should have 2 modes for like questing i get a lot of us are high (or maxed) level now but some of these “hard” bosses are just plan out to hard, unless your a hardcore wiz head then that would be easy, but if your dumb like me and have no idea how you have a maxed wiz i feel like an easy quest mode and a hard quest mode would be fun. And yeh this new nightmare dungeon just made me regret renewing my membership i legit tried to got mad and cancelled it.. Stitching for gold would be honestly amazing and pet stitching YES PLEASE. They should honestly listen to people more and not just hardcore wiz heads whom want everything super hard. It sucks the fun out of it… if they want something hard they should do raids or meatmoon. I get why they want things “harder” but making these harder just sucks the fun out of it. Makes questing feel like a chore then anything else. Doesnt make it fun at all. And it seems to me they only listen to peoppe whom beg for everything to be harder yet they wont listen to everyone else. Please note this is my opinion and mine alone.

Even though i have mixed thoughts about making wiz free- they need to do more for the free to play players make the first arc free or make it a way where they or we can get to other worlds.. Wiz says “free to play” which in a way is false advertisement.. I get why they have it where you gotta pay to play. In order to keep the game running but at this point its just annoying.
I played Wiz since 2010 and found the environment so toxic I let my membership lapse. I spent a lot of time fixing up my houses and gardening rather than playing. I was on the upper levels with three wizards.

haven’t played since i was 13, im 21 now and just started playing again i’ve been enjoying it a lot but a lot of things are weird such as the pay wall when most games like wiz are usually free to play.
You probably remember incorrectly. I recall mostly playing Wizard101 during 2015-2019 and it was always pay to play. Even back in 2012 there was a membership requirement. You could probably acquire max lv 13 with no membership.
I saw the new clip of wizard101 it's the same does not have much too offer for us for the old GS.

I logged on yesterday for the first time in 5+ years as I randomly remembered the game. At first I was excited to play my favorite childhood game but unaware of all the drastic changes that were made. I would say that I played (not consistently) from around 2015-2019. I was disappointed to see the new Wizard 101. 2018 was still fun and enjoyable. And honestly till 2019. Unfortunately, 2020 is when it all went downhill.
I noticed yesterday that the servers all appeared empty. I remember the commons (and honestly everywhere) being packed back in the days. People would just go there to socialize and hangout. Everywhere was empty. I miss the old sound tracks especially the original battle music, golem court, and ravenwood. They got rid of all of it.
I usually don’t say this about many games however, Wizard101 had a magical spark that I’ve never experienced with any other game before. I would be able to play for many years without getting bored of it. Now that spark is gone. The game has now become a sad, empty, and dead joke. It went from a to z within the blink of an eye. These are just my thoughts on the games current situation. There is no coming back from this joke. It’s completely dead.

I miss wiz when Azteca was the new world…. With my stitched waterworks gear and where having pet with spell proof and defy with some damage was the peak pet. And my Lifeforce blade!!! Everything about wiz has gotten too impossible and sour.
I don't understand why you are complaining about learning a strategy game that's whole point of the genre to Learn it for yourself and improve. I just wanted to check up on the game after a couple years and i feel like they dropped the ball with the potential of this game.
Tbh I dont think i'll ever enjoy w101 again, the first arc was the best story, the 2nd arc was also great tho with avalon, khrysalis. After that the story just spiraled off and i lost interest, i tried to play the other day and just got stuck on bosses with cheats and instead of trying to grind them i just gave up, the game lost its spark for me.

If people really want KI to listen , stop buying crowns and investing in them financially, it's usually in a gaming company's best interest to listen to players when there is financial risk involved. Unfortunately, people are addicted to spending crowns on this game it's kind of fascinating.
Problem is new players spending on crowns, it makes the bosses think Devs are doing a good job which player don't think.

You keep talking about the content back in 2015, I remember when housing did not exist, and people were farming the kraken in triton avenue. I remember the pirate cap “helm of stormzilla.” It is crazy the amount of content they have placed in it now is insane. Why can’t be just people happy with what they have and stop complaining? I played this when it wasn’t even well known and I STILL enjoy it till this day.

I can’t believe people who genuinely excited for the nightmare dungeon. I knew it was going to be a flop months before they dropped it. I quit this year after coming back from a hiatus - I tried so hard to fall in love with the game again and would only log on to play beast moon. It sucks.
