    Thank you for defending Shirou's character. While not one of my favourites, he is not an awful and/or generic character.

    I think the whole point of repeating dialogue or more so the concept with slight changes is to cover the fact that it takes that much repetition and hammering to get points across. Seeing as this is RUclips, I'm sure plenty know just how hard such an act is. The fights are meant to be few but important because that's just what the war is, its not advantageous to have your servant fight constantly because it takes up mana and increases the chances of revealing their abilities to your other enemies. The talking is well because that's what the series is really about, trying to get across a couple key concepts and ideals.

    Ufotable it's pretty good, thus UBW has an amazing producction and adapts the VN route well .However Fate Stay/Night has a big problem: the whole story it's made out of three time lines, and due to that the adaptations will focus in diferent characters depending on the route they are based on, so you will get a good development of, for example Saber, in the Fate route adaptation but no in the UBW or HF adaptations. So I think the solution it's just watch as many Fate as you can.

    Aimer's voice is so amazing! I hope she sings for Heaven's Feel. Oh, the show was fair, but it introduced me to Aimer, so that's the main deal.

    Hey everyone! First off, I hope you enjoyed Type-Moon Month. I know I did. It was tough to pull everything together, especially since I planned it for a pretty bad time in hindsight, but fun times overall.
    Second, due to personal circumstances, it may take three weeks, rather than the usual two, for the release of my next review. Rest assured, after that, we will return to regular biweekly programming. Thanks for being fans!

      i agree with you man i enjoyed and understood ubw not really as a stand alone but more as a continuos story of the fate series that explained a lot of certain characters example in fate route archer's identity isn't revealed but hints where leeft, and now other story and explains the story of archer. this is why i like the fate series a lot cause even thooe a part leaves questions and dosn't explain there is alwasy an other part that explains it. and with that i am also talking about hollow ataraxia cause it goes in detail about thoose characters there left out and also introduces 3 new ones and also deepens the other characters as all (yeah fate hollow ataraxia it's a bit of a fan service game but it's a story on it's own worth reading cause characters are there) (i love that visual novel)

    I did enjoy Archer's story quite a bit, especially how it tied into Shirou's idealism. I did find your commentary about the differences between this and the VN. Our overall views seem to be pretty similar on the series, a good show that while flawed was still really enjoyable. Great review, I'll have to go back and watch your other videos for Type Moon month.

    Right now i am re watching this series including many type moon related stuff in preparation for heaven's feel 1st movie, and i mostly agree with this review.
    With amazing visuals, a strong main cast of characters, the sound effects being spot on, and the op's getting you hyped enough for the episodes, despite some underdeveloped side characters, Shinji just being the worst thing in this franchise, info dumps 24/7 and the action sequences animation wise being more inconsistent throughout the 2nd half, i think this show it's fine on it's own.
    Also, i'm assuming you're gonna talk about heaven's feel as soon as you watch it, so i'll be looking forward to that as well.

    Great work. You got the point of the series perfectly.
    I find some flaws of it unavoidable though. E.g the issues with missing info.
    I don't find Gil's case of letting them go to be a contrivance either.
    Lastly I don't see FZ as so much more mature than it if more mature at all. They handle different topics.

    I don't think making dialogues more straight and direct will enhance the experience for the sake of less "talky".
    Though you can say it is superfluous.
    Hard-core VN fans won't already shut up about inner monologs getting cut, cutting more lines will just amplify that anxiety of losing context.
    Also in most cases those "talky" scenes is usually accompanied by subtle visual cues that can relay the inner monologues that gets cut. If you have preexisting knowledge of characters innermonologues at specific scenes some subtle character acting in said scenes do reflect those inner thoughts at those scenes.

    In my opinion Shirous story is one that gets more interesting the more routes you play, development wise I'd say UBW's Shirou is the one that's truest to his 'ideal' but I find his choices heavens feel to be the most human he ever feels. Partly because I dislike people with messiah complexes since it always feels unintentionslly condecending as hell.
    But also because it feels like he's getting some form of closure and overcoming his survivors guilt. provides a very interesting juxtaposition on his steadfast heroism in other two routes.
    Not to say he doesn't in the others well honestly the Fate route just forgets about it, UBW's if your a cynic is basically Shirou falling into insanity beca use of it but in HF it feels thst by rejecting the ideal he's set on a path to recovering because he realises no the world is never goingto be perfect but thats exactly what makes it worth living in.
    This is probably going to draw the shippers ire but I've always felt like the romance in StayNight has consistently been the weakest part of every route. Heavens feels done a great job by encorporating Sakura's interest in Shirou as a driving force. It feels like they're naturally developing a bond. In Rins case it feels plastered to remind us this is a VN and in the Fate route (the VN not the anime) its feels incredibly forced since from a base line what Saber and Shirou want would lead them to diverging paths and it doesn't feel like a relationship would work without one characters personality altering to fall in line with the others.
    Personally I attribute the relationships I enjoy in the various routes more with the adaption directors and less with Nasu's ability to write a good relationship.

    I was wondering what do you have against Bryce

    • @GrexEleven
      @GrexEleven  8 лет назад +1

      I just think he's a rather poor actor. In my experience, he tries to put so much emotion into his delivery that it feels fake and overplayed, rather than layered or deep. (I characterized my disdain as "irrational" because, while that is itself a perfectly rational basis for disdain, it has evolved over time to the point that him even being in a dub is an immediate turn-off.)
      That said, I do think Bryce shines with more comedic roles, a la Danganronpa 2's Nagito and Persona Q's Theodore. It's really only self-serious drama that he stumbles with, which is why I find it such a shame that he is so often cast as hotheaded action protagonists (like Eren).

    • @BradLad56
      @BradLad56 8 лет назад +2

      I've watched it both subbed and dubbed and Bryce didn't do a bad job as Shiro. I didn't want to tear my ears off everytime he spoke anyway so that's a plus I guess lol although I have to say that for Archer, Junichi Suwabe delivered the ubw chant better than Kaji Tang imo. Also have you watched Fate/Zero dubbed or did you just stick to sub for that too?

    Hi great review even tho i would give it an s..
    Just a quick question,you said yourself that you enjoyed the swoh and you would give it an s.. If you watch an anime what truly matters is how much you enjoy it.. You can have a flawless anime but will you give it an s if you didnt ejoy it att all?
    Everything else was good,but i disagree on the fact that servants walk away when they have the chance to kill of the enemies,it happens in zero too and nearly all anime shows.. In ubw there isnt really much of that,the only 2 i can remmember is gilgamesh and berseker..
    Keep up the good work

    • @GrexEleven
      @GrexEleven  8 лет назад +1

      There's no such thing as objective quality, thus there can be no truly "flawless" anime, but to answer your question regardless: no, I wouldn't. With my grades, I try to strike a balance between my own enjoyment/biases, and what I believe the majority of viewers would find appealing in a show.

  • @risingskyes3178
    @risingskyes3178 8 лет назад

    Grex, are you planning to review Clannad and Clannad After Story (also known as the best anime(s) of all time)? Also, if and when you do, will you be including supplementary material like Clannad Side Stories (Clannad Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de) and the Kappei route from the original visual novel?

    • @GrexEleven
      @GrexEleven  8 лет назад

      The best I can say for any requests at this point is "it's a possibility". I do have an outline of a Clannad review that I wrote after re-watching the series a while ago (so Clannad is more likely than some), but I can't say for certain if and when that will come to fruition.
      As for the supplementary material, probably not, since I try and make it a point to only address specifically what an anime includes in my videos, as well as the fact that I haven't actually played the visual novel (yet).

    • @risingskyes3178
      @risingskyes3178 8 лет назад

      Grex Ah, I understand. I really do love the Clannad anime, it just bothers me that they never included Hiragi Kappei's story in the anime (he's my profile picture, in the visual novel, which is pretty much exactly like the show, he ends up being Fujibayashi Ryou's husband) and some of the scenarios in Clannad Side Stories can be pretty compelling (like the story of how Akio and Sanae met). Thanks for answering.

    I hated Shirou so much in fate/stay night. Honestly, he was just portrayed as a complete idiot in that show. So when I watched unlimited blade works I didn't expect him to be any different. I was very very wrong. He is still mostly the same character except for that he doesn't treat saber like she is some helpless girl who shouldn't fight (which is fucking stupid since that is the only reason she is even there in the first place). But his character is just portrayed soooo much better in unlimited blade works. That version of Shirou is now my favorite fate character.

    • @trapova2483

      Also, Shirou isn't stupid, he has alot of reasons for doing what he does, like wanting to be hero even though what Archer tells him.

      He loves Madoka, but I don't think he currently has any plans. You can request it if you want, though. I think he's really tuckered out, as he mentioned in his comment on this video, and he usually plans these things way in advance, but you'll have to wait for his response if he actually wants to take you up on that request. I just wrote this to be helpful in the meantime.

    • @GrexEleven

      If you're looking for an hour count, let's see... scripting and recording would be in total about 3 or 4, then I'd say roughly 30 minutes of editing time per 1 minute of finished video (though that can vary wildly depending on the exact section). So, by that count, for this review... maybe 12 hours?

But somehow, In a mass of a few weeks, Beat fucking Gilgamesh, THE KING OF THE FUCKING HEROES. Then proceeds too somehow learn all the moves Archer did in like 1 day. Tosaka is annoying, I hate her more than anyone., Annoying and just a Generic character. I wish Assassin, Lancer got more screen time. They were actually unique characters and had a decent following. Unfortunately, If the main characters were more well made, I'd actually like it. But Servants are good and all.

      You’re a moron. Rin is best girl and is super entertaining to watch. It makes sense why shirou got the strength, it wasn’t plot convenience. Emiya (Archer) is a top 10 anime character. And Either the best or second best fare character. Lancet was also goated.
