  • "Nalmes" translates from the Adyghe (Circassian) language as "precious stone." Founded in 1936, the Nalmes Ensemble is a folk dance ensemble committed to the preservation and promotion of Adyghean (Circassian) music and dance traditions.
Dance is the language of our bodies and souls, a bridge connecting our ancestors to our children. Adyghe dance, in particular, represents a unique art form that has evolved alongside its people through the centuries. It reflects the collective experiences endured by the Circassians-traditionally reserved and concise in expressing emotions, yet their dances vividly display the community's vibrant energy, their unyielding yearning for freedom, and the strength and spirit of their people. The beauty of Circassian customs, their inherent dignity, elegance, and aristocratic nature, are all embodied in their dance.
The structure of the dances, the costumes, and the accompanying items are meticulously crafted, each with a significance rooted in the national spirit and cultural narrative. Dance is more than just an art form; it represents a vital layer of the spiritual life of Adygean society, expressed through exceptionally vivid choreography. Even in today's globalised world, dance remains the most universally understandable and accessible form of art.
